Actually, looking at that list, the goaltending in the League now isn't very impressive. Howard no doubt is one of the better goalies in the league.

I wouldn't think Sammy has a spot when he's ready to go. Bert may have a hard time cracking the lineup too. Gotta love the enegry Tatar brings. With how well our D has been playing lately, think how much better it'll be when Smith is back. We're starting to see how well we've drafted the last few years in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Anyone who thinks Holland isn't an amazing GM is crazy! For once we agree on something

I'll 2nd, 3rd, 4th (whatever order I'm in), on how well Big E has been playing. Kindl has been playing well too, along with Quincey. I haven't noticed anything negative from Quincey for a few games. Our D seems to be coming into their own. I figured it would take 10 games or so for everyone to step into their new roles with Lidstrom gone. You and me both, E's contract was based on market value. There was a few times today during the game I said, "Nice play E". A few years ago I was saying, "Man, it's always an adventure when he has the puck".

I like this team a lot, they have to work hard for their wins. 5th in the Conference Looking forward to Wednesday vs. The Blues

Howard's SV% is now .907% and climbing. Just saying.

After my rant yesterday about how horrible Canadian stations cover hockey, NBC does it right! No favorites, no agenda to try and make certain teams and players look good, no trying to brainwash the audience, and just announcing the game as it happens. Plus NBC has great arena sound, you can really hear the game... CBC and TSN are a joke! As for today's game, great game by Howard! Typical game by the Wings for a team playing the second game of a back-to-back. Hopefully we can get an early 3rd period goal, and then defend two late Kings Power Plays

Did anyone else watch the game on CBC? Canadian hockey coverage is the worst! They're so pro Canada with their comments that it really makes them look stupid. All game long they talked about Lidstrom retiring, how bad the Wings PP and PK was (after only 10 games), fast the Oilers are, and have the 4th best PP in the League. They also made a comment about how the Wings are retooling and the Oilers are ready to win now. Last I checked, the Oilers are still in the bottom 1/3 of the Western Conference. What's taking their rebuild so long? Canadian stations (CBC and TSN) seem to have an agenda before the game starts, they don't call the game as it happens. As a Canadian, it's embarrassing. To reply to all their stupid comments, the Oilers PP sucked today! They played sloppy all game, and had way to many turn overs. The best announcers are ones you don't really notice. They let the game control the broadcast. Mickey, Ken, and Murph have to be amoung the best in the League, they just seem to enjoy themselves, and the game of Hockey. You won't find a better broadcast team out there then them. As for the Wings, I think the first game was a wash, that wasn't this team. Take away Game 1 and we're 6-3-1.

Correct, I'm repeating myself, again, but building through the draft is the way to go. And how do you build through the draft? By bottoming out. I'm not saying the Wings should bottom out now, but we should just play the season out and see what we have with our young players. Building with trades and UFA's will get you no where. The market is way overpriced, and will give you no more hope than, "just make the playoffs, anything will happen".

That hack by McLennan was one of the dirtiest things I've seen in sports. If you want to talk about premediation, that's a perfect example. It was the Flames teams of 2003-07 that really changed my opinions about Canadian hockey players, how dirty they are and that they're a bunch of sore losers when beaten by Europeans. I have no problem with Franzen getting a game and a fine, but at the same time, I have no problem with what he did to Perron. I'm glad the refs gave Perron a penalty on the play too, I think they handled everything correctly. Perron should get a call from the League office today as well and be reminded that hits from behind are not allowed, espcially if he wants to keep his manhood in one piece. Yea, I have to admit I laughed when Franzen half jumped on him. I can just imagine what he said to him. Perron would have probably turtled anyway. A spear to the groin sent the message. Add to that Panger saying Perron game him a nudge.

I'm glad I'm not someone who's always negative towards this team. I couldn't imagine having the same thoughts and stresses people here have towards the Wings. It's entertainment people! At some point you need to be proud of what you've witnessed as a fan. No fan base in the NHL has enjoyed the same amount of winning as we've had since the Oilers of the 1980's. Since the mid-90's, only Yankees fans have witnessed a better championship run. Losing the 2nd best defencemen of all time is going to take a little time to recover from, so it may take a few seasons to become an elite team again. Edit: If you can't wait a few years, I suggest you jump on the Black Hawks or Penguins bandwagon!
-
Yeah our organization will lose a lot of character when The Joe goes. The prices are reasonable, so a lot of us average fans can go, which helps the atmosphere. A new rink means higher prices and more of a corporate, quiet crowd.
-
For that price he better carry a team of minor league defensemen! Edit: Just shows us how over priced the Free Agent market is, especially for defensemen (see Ericsson's contract), and bulding through the draft is the way to go. For the record, I was against signing Suter from the beginning
-
Calle Jarnkrok - Does he have a chance to make next season's team?
Barrie replied to a topic in General
Losing means better draft picks. We'll become a force again quicker then just trying to make the playoffs or do short term patch work. Edit: All the top teams in the league right now rebuilt through the draft. -
Zetterberg runs the PP, he's usually the one with the puck. Geeze, reading these comments you'd think the Wings were 2-4-1, and not 4-2-1 (4-1-1 after the 6-0 blowout in St. Louis). Like I've been saying, this is a fun team to watch, just sit back and enjoy.
-
Since we'll probably finish 3rd in the Division and 6th in the Conference, I'm looking forward to some "so called" Red Wings fans to jump ship over to St. Louis or Chicago. Go annoy Blues and Hawks fans. Some people's comments on the team after only 6 games is ridiculous. This is a very entertaining team to watch! They have a lot of grit (something these same people were complaining about in previous seasons). The Wings haven't played like this seen since the late 1990's, and they seem to be hitting their stride. Just sit back and enjoy.
-
Oh look who got the score correct tonight. Again, I really like this team. They work hard, and have a lot of grit. Take away the 1st game (that's not our team), and we're 3-1-1. Hopefully we can take advantage of a tired Blues team on Friday. Gotta love the 3 stars giving away signed sticks, very classy. I've had such great experiences at The Joe when I go to games, and seeing the players giving away sticks like that, I'm convinced Detroit has the best arena experience in the league. It's called Hockeytown for a reason, and anyone who doesn't like it, can "Suck it"! Edit: When we move into a new arena, we're really going to lose a lot of character.
-
No way the Stars win again at The Joe. Despite the jokes and the "oh woe is us" attitude on the borad the first 5 games, I think, other than the game in St. Louis, we are playing well and this team is entertaining to watch. 4-1 Wings.
-
I think we're going to start seeing fans jump off the Wings bandwagon this season and jump on the Blackhawks. I don't mind, we'll see who the true fans are. I'm going no where, I've been a fan since 1989, and a Tigers fan since 1983.
-
What do you expect, it's the regular season. The Sharks always shine in the Regular Season. I saw Thornton was named the best Center the first week of the season on a cbssports.com article.
-
Smith is going to turn out to be better than Suter anyway, we need the cap room for him.
-
Good to see us beat the Wild. Also I didn't hear Suter's name too much tonight, only when the Wild announcers said he got his 1st assist. I think Suter's overrated. Also Parise, how do you pronounce his name properly? Does the "e" at the end of his name have an "e" sound to it, or does it have an "a" sound? The Wild announcers were pronouncing it with an "e" sound, but I've alwayed heard, and say it, with an "a" sound. Minny signed him for 13 years, they better get the name right!
-
I don't know man, that 1st line maybe a little small, they could get pushed around easy. Howe is the tallest at 6'1, and that Lindsay guy is shrimp at 5'8 (I changed the Draper spelling for you. Just one "p", not two)
-
The next couple of years!? The next couple of years!? What do you mean the next couple of years!? A lot of people on this board can't wait that long! It's time to over pay for UFA's NOW!! Actually with the talent we've got on the way, I don't mind if we have a couple average or below average years for a good draft position to load up on young talent, so we can put another long run together. I don't want to "just make the playoffs". And you would know this how?
-
I don't understand the number of people who can't understand how over priced the Free Agent market is with the lack of high quality players available, and type of contracts that were previously signed, ex) Wisniewski. The next year's contracts have to be more. Also people were complaining about how much Ericsson signed for, but that's what he was worth on the open market. Why would anyone think Holland should over pay for UFA's? The way to build a winner is through the draft and signing your best players long term. Signing Free Agents for 13 year deals is just insane! Suter and Parise aren't worth that kind of money or term. Plus when the Wild have to resign their own players, all future contracts will be based off of the Sute and Parise contracts. The Wild screwed themselves for 13 years!

I was going to post the little yellow dude with the violin, but can't find him.
