Holland losing his moxie? Is Detroit slipping as UFA destination?
Barrie replied to RedWingsRox's topic in General
Actually a lot of athletes like Detroit. The staduims/arenas are always packed, and it's one of the best sport cities in North America. Athletes live in big houses in the suburbs anyway, and Detroit has nice 'burbs. Add to that, their money goes farther. Most big cities are unsafe, so the inner city and crime rates don't concern athletes. -
Holland losing his moxie? Is Detroit slipping as UFA destination?
Barrie replied to RedWingsRox's topic in General
Holland's lost nothing, it's called the Salary Cap era. If we want Detroit to be a top destination again, get rid of the Salary Cap. We can spend based on what we bring in instead of being weighed down by broke teams like Phoenix, Florida and Columbus. -
Forget Perry, sign Getzlaf! Centers are more valuable than Wingers.

We'll see what kind of hockey fans Preds fans are after they lose Suter and Weber this offseason.
-
Yea lets see what we have with some of these young forwards first, then add on after that. Personally I don't see a need to rush. Looking at the roster, we could ice a team where all 12 of our regular forwards have 10+ goal potential. That's a very well balanced attack!
-
Nothing against that great 2013 FA class, but with our depth of young forwards we may not need any of them. However I'd try and get Getzlaf! I'm a big fan!

The players should make a counter offer and say they want a Luxury Tax
-
I think maybe some so called Red Wings fans should walk

I'm still bitter about the non suspension on Weber for his WWE move on Zetterberg, how Preds fans thought it was a big joke, and even had a nickname for it ("Webering"). With that said, it serves Preds fans and Gary Bettman right for not making "Webering" a serious issue. Suter is gone, and Weber, if the offer isn't matched is gone too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIrhVo1WA78

Yea, let the kids play. Looking at the roster we have more than enough forwards, and more on the way. Semin and Doan will just take up space. All we need is another defenceman, that is all.

Signed Red Wings re-sign Quincey: 2-years, $7.55m total, $3.775/yr
Barrie replied to haroldsnepsts's topic in General
I think that's a good deal. Quincey is still only 27, he'll continue to get better. -
Red Wings make "helluva" offer for Nash, no response
Barrie replied to stevkrause's topic in General
Maybe his contract is tough to trade away? As for the offer, first off Columbus won't trade with the Wings, and second, I'd bet Columbus would want a power forward in return. If I was Columbus, I'd rather have Nash. Nothing against Filp and Nyquist, but those two won't sell tickets, Nash or another power forward would... Also, if Filp and Nyquist got traded to Columbus, I'd feel bad for them. -

Well it looks like drafting is the way to go now, and I'm ok with that. Let other teams over pay for FA's and sell the farm in trades. Be prepared for a bit of a decline as our top prospects continue to get NHL ready, and we stock up on draft picks. -
Red Wings Rebuilding and Adapting to Maintain Dominance
Barrie replied to MrBest7's topic in General
This is what people who don't like Holland need to see how progressive he is in his thinking. With the state of the current FA market, drafting and development is the way to go. As I've been saying, I'd never offer a FA a 13 year deal. I'd only offer a deal like that to someone you drafted and developed yourself. There's no surprises that way. I think Minnesota is going to regret signing Suter and Parise. -
What a mess. The entire system needs to be changed. They should study the other 3 sports and see how they run things, and go with a luxury tax, because obviously this system isn't working. They miss an entire year, only to have worse problems 7 years later? Bettman and the Owners don't have a clue on how to conduct their business. Every 5-7 years we're going to have to put up with this if they continue to be so stubborn and clueless in their ways. Bettman and the Owners need to realize that this is entertainment. I for one have been turning my attention and sports $$$ to Baseball and Football. All the off the field crap that goes on in those two sports get taken care of quickly, unlike the NHL where it overshadows what's going on on the ice. All this CBA crap and head shots should have been dealt with 3 years ago. Right, it's time to take down Bettman and the Owners.

I'm looking forward to watching the young guys play this year. I don't see a point in over paying for Free Agents when Nyquist, Brunner, and Smith are ready to go. Looking at the roster, we have a good mix of youth, vets, stars, speed, and grit. It should be a fun year!

I've met Wolski's dad. According to his old man, Wojtek likes the night life. I agree it's a steal though, with his potential. It's amazing though how the lure of the night life can ruin a career. Think of all the earning potential Wojtek could have if he took things serious. One word, Nash

I heard the whining on the radio today about Nash not including a Canadian team on his list. Why would he want to play for a Canadian team? Getting Nash will be better than Parise.

You guys are no fun! Kidding. -
I'd rather have Dats and Z. I'd pass on Doan, get Semin instead.
-
I'm ok if we go into the season with this roster. I wouldn't mind rebuilding a bit and letting Smith, Nyquist, Brunner, and Kindl play instead of an over priced Free Agent.
-
I agree, and I think what'll happen is the entire system is going to get changed. We may see some changes to the floor, and more of a luxury tax system. Fehr and the players have a lot against the current system that Bettman and the owners can't defend. Plus With NBC now showing games, I can't see how they would have liked the playoffs. After the 1st round the TV numbers were crap, and a 6 vs 8 seeded final should never happen, ever!! NBC will probably tell the NHL they need to give some sort of an advantage to the big markets so they can get higher ratings and make more money on advertising space, or else they won't renew their TV deal.

13 years is an insane amount of term to offer a Free Agent. The next 13 years of your franchise's fate is in the hands of Suter and Parise, and honestly I 'm glad it didn't happen. We're better off without them. Also when you have top notch players like Zetterberg, Datysuk, and Kronwall on your team, what does that say to them, since Suter and Parise may not even be better than them.
