    Tomas Holmstrom's fate

Holmstrom, just like Yzerman, Draper, Maltby, and Osgood before him, has earned the right to go out on his own terms. If he wants to come back for one more year, I don't have a problem with it. I have enough faith in Babcock and Holland that they would sit him if they have to. When you win multiple Championships like we have, we need to be careful and sensitive on how players, who were a big part in winning, and especially guys who've played their entire career in Detroit, go out. They need the proper send off, and fans should understand that. Edit: Also, I think the organization gave Maltby, Draper, and Osgood the proper send offs, despite wanting to play another year, and they'll do the same with Holmstrom. Yzerman decided on his own to hang 'em up.

    Playoff seeding & Divison winners

Honestly I don't really have a problem with the current system, but wouldn't be against a change. It's a shame to think Pittsburgh or Philly are going to be out 1st round, just like Nashville or Detroit (if things stay as they are). Those are 4 excellent teams and 3 huge NHL markets, that all should reach the 2nd round. 2000 we had it happen to us as well, and it was worse that this year. 1999-2000 we were the 2nd best team in the entire NHL but was a 4th seed because St. Louis won the Central. Colorado, a division winner and 3rd seed, was given home ice in the 2nd round against us, despite us having 12 more points. James Duthie was interviewed on TSN radio last week and said what they should do is do away with the automatic 1-2-3 seeds for division winners, and if you win your division, you're guaranteed a playoff spot, but 1-8 would be based on points... With the new CBA coming up, I wouldn't be surprised if this automatic 1-2-3 division winner seeds is talked about.

    Babcock's after game comments

I thought the Wings played well tonight. They hit two posts, Zetterberg was robbed, and Nashville's first two goals (I didn't see the 3rd) came on flukey plays. The Wings could have easily won 3-1 or 4-1.

    Atlanta Thrashers move to Winnipeg

Add to that, Atlanta isn't that great of a sports town to begin with.

    3/30 GDT : Predators 4 at Red Wings 1

Funny how people think they know how the Wings will play in the playoffs this year. Detroit fans should know more than anyone that the playoffs is completely different than the regular season. We won't know how the Wings will do in the playoffs until they actually start. 4th seed, 5th seed, 6th seed, I really don't care.

    Needs to be said

Yea I don't think starting on the road is that big a deal either. Just split the first two games, and you're good. After years of starting at home, it always was a lot of pressure to win both Game 1 + 2.

    Atlanta Thrashers move to Winnipeg

I have a friend who knows a NHL ref. He told me last year before it happened, that Atlanta was going to Winnipeg, when everyone thought it was going to be Phoenix. Well, he was right. I asked him yesterday if there's any truth to these Phoenix to Quebec rumors. He said he's going to email his ref friend and pass any info on to me. If I find out something good, I'll let you all know!

I wouldn't mind another crack at SJ. Let Nashville-Chicago play each other 1st round.

    Atlanta Thrashers move to Winnipeg

On the FAN590 today, Bob McCown was hinting that Quebec may have a team by next year, that's why they put money in the current area. Also there's plans to build and NHL rink in September. Also TSN radio reported that the AHL has been touring jobbing.com arena for possibly putting a team there.

    this team is soft

I don't think it's the Red Wings that are soft, they're just trying to win games. It's the League that's soft for not trying to put an end to this MMA style hockey which leads to their most marketable and popular players to miss weeks and months of games because of concussions and injuries. With everything we know now about concussions, I wish the NHL would take more of a NFL approach and protect their players properly. The stars should run this league, not the thugs.

Ok, is it just me, or is it annoying to see these loser teams, like Columbus, all fired up and fist pumping when they score against a good team, like Detroit? Full credit to Columbus for playing well tonight, but where was this intensity all year?

    Howard vs. Schneider

Howard, and I didn't even have to think about it. Schneider is still unproven when it comes to being a #1 goalie. Let someone else overpay, and give up a ton of draft picks for him.

Brendan Smith sent back to Grand Rapids

I agree, but I think that's one of those hindsight 20/20 things. Smith is ready, but in the off season we weren't sure.

Yea agree with you about White, great signing. Holland's smart, he doesn't want to sign anyone on the blue line long term until Lidstrom calls it a career. Plus he's after Suter or Weber.

We don't want to be stuck with that contract. We think Ericsson's is bad, but Wiz's is 10 times worse!

    Nyquist needs to stay here

I remember a few months ago someone posted a link from TSN that said the Wings don't have a replacement for Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Franzen yet, unlike 2002 and 2003 when Datsyuk and Zetterberg were starting out with Shanahan and Yzerman on the decline. I think we've got our replacement now, and Datsyuk is only 33, and Zetterberg 31... We're ahead of schedule too, because Shanny and Stevie were 34 and 37 in Zetterberg's rookie year.

Lots of well deserved Nyquist talk tonight. I understood why Smith was sent down, but there's no reason Nyquist should go back to GR when everyone is healthy. He's ready!

You know it's a blow out when, FS Blue Jackets interviewed Holmstrom in the 1st intermission, and Zetterberg in the 2nd.

    Happy Turtle Day

Well living outside Toronto, the game wasn't on TV, and being 1997 I couldn't watch it online. The next day in the Toronto paper there was a picture of Lemieux turtling and Mac ready to punch him again, I cut it out and put it on my wall... 15 years later and I still hate Lemieux's guts! Who knows if we'd have 4 cups if that night didn't happen. It made us who we are today! 1997 was DMac's year! He got Lemieux and scored the GWG in Game 4.

Well when everything seems to be going wrong, eventually things will even out and go right for a while. Good to see Holmstrom with 2 in the 1st. Here's hoping he get's the hat trick. Who knows, we maybe hitting our stride just in time!
