Tavares contract upped the value on Matthews, Marner, and Nylander. Marner is going to ask for $12 Million now. How can the Leafs make that happen?
-
Big named coaches probably won't want to come here for another couple years anyway. Keeping Blash probably makes the most sense. I'm not surprised, Dubass screwed the long term Leafs future signing Tavares.
-
No complaints from me. We don't have anyone else to start.

Those look like some decent signings. -
I heard the Leafs got booed off the ice last night after losing 6-2 to the Lightning. It made me laugh, after the big deal they made about Islanders fans booing Tavares. Leaf fans are soft. I watched that at the movie theater. That was when WWE would show the Pay Per Views at the movies before the WWE Network launched. Edge speared Cena into a table, and the crowd went nuts. RVD, a good Michigan boy.

As mentioned many times, I live in the Toronto area. There's been many complaints here about how Tavares was" treated" Thursday night in Long Island. No one got hurt, so I don't have a problem with it. I personally love it when the fans become a big part of the game. I think the best way for visiting teams to shut up the fans, is to play well. What do Leaf fans expect when their team goes out and loses 6-1? As the saying goes, "Living well is the best revenge". Anyway, I found this video on youtube. Don't mind the language (there's a few f-words, and the a-hole chant), if it's to much, go ahead and delete the discussion. However, some of the chants are very clever, making references to Tavares not wanting to be traded, and the picture he posted of him as a kid with his Maple Leafs bed sheets. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFP3Wdt0ezU

Thanks for the laugh guys. I watched Tavares in the post game interview. He was asked about the Islanders fans, he said he expected it, and it didn't seem to bother him. Athletes are some of the most mentally tough people in society. Guys who are wusses don't make it that far. They play in front of tens of thousands of people, and are told they "suck" every game. Yes, it was the Toronto fans and media who made a big deal out of it. I think the only thing that got hurt was Toronto media and fans feelings.

Gustav Nyquist traded to Sharks for 2019 Second Round pick and 2020 3rd round conditional pick.

It would have been the right move, but after the 2009 playoffs, no. Who knew Franzen would have concussion problems? -
Leaf fans are soft. There's something going around social media saying next home game the fans should cheer Tavares as loud as they can.

It's too bad Tatar and Nyquist didn't turn out to be the players we hoped. 2014-15 it was looking like they would be replacements for Datsyuk and Zetterberg. I guess 5 picks in the first 3 rounds are a decent return. -
I just wanted to comment on the Nylander 6 year $6.9 Million deal. What a mess the Leafs have created by signing Tavares. I live in the Toronto area, so I see/hear the comments. Leaf fans, either don't understand, or refuse to believe, what's going on here. All the Tavares contract has done is upped the value of the rest of the team. Every contract now, will be based on Tavares. Marner can ask for $10 Million and Matthews $12 Million, instead of having to settle for bridge contracts. I have witnesses that can back me on this, when I first heard Tavares signed with the Leafs, I said, "Wow! Why did the Leafs sign him? Now they'll have to pay Marner, Matthews, and Nylander more". I noticed Morgan Reilly is having a great year too. Defensemen are over paid, so he can ask for $10 Million now. The Leafs don't have a plan, they're running their team like it's 2003-04. I hear they'll trade Nylander in the off season. The fans are going to demand a first line Defenseman, but honestly, what can they get other than draft picks? They can't add any more big contracts. Leave it to the Leafs to screw up a once in a lifetime opportunity.

11/15 Let's Get This Bread GDT - Red Wings @ Senators - 7:30 PM ET

If we're going to ruin our draft position, may a well keep winning! Let's go boys! -
Steve Yzerman to step down as GM for TBL. Will serve in "Advisory Role".
Barrie replied to kliq's topic in General
The timing is prefect for Stevie becoming our next GM. Holland signed a 2 year deal, Stevie can advise in Tampa for a year, work with the Wings for a year to analyze the organization, then take over for Kenny who becomes Senior VP. -
If a team is trapped in cap hell, it's Toronto. That Tavares deal is awful! The Leafs are stuck building around him now, despite having Matthews, Marner, and Nylander. Also, the other day I saw Jake Gardiner say he should be getting Ryan Ellis money, ha! The Leafs better win the Cup in 2 years, or they're screwed!

I'm ok with the new center ice look. Hockeytown was The Joe, Yzerman, McCarty, Shanahan, Fedorov, Lidstrom, Osgood, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, etc.. It's a new team in a new arena, so the next era has an opportunity to make their own identity.

Oh good, no politics. I had to block someone I've known for years, on social media and my phone, because he wouldn't stop arguing with me about politics. I tell people we mostly just vote based on our jobs anyway, so it's pointless to argue about politics.
-
Yzerman, but I'm glad they were both on our side.
-
They need defensemen, unless they get lucky, I don't know how they'll get them. The Leafs may have rebuild too fast, if that makes sense. They're out of a good drafting position now. I watched most of the Leafs-Bruins series, and I wasn't impressed with how the Leafs played in their own zone. I would have expected, if Babcock is this great coach, he would have had his defensemen play better positional hockey. I'm starting to wonder if the Leafs will only be a 105 point team, who's all offense, and won't get to that next level.
-
I don't like that Tavares deal in Toronto. As mentioned, I live in the Toronto area, people here are excited, but I don't think that was very smart. Before Tavares, they would have had to lose either Matthews, Marner, or Nylander, to keep the other two. Now they have to lose two of them with Tavares. Tavares is now the guy they're building around. Just like that, their long term plans changed. The Leafs didn't need another forward, they need defensemen.
-
We'll see who we get in the 2nd round, but already training camp will be fun before next season.
-
I don't know much about Zadina, because I figured we'd draft a defenseman so I was looking at the defensemen in this draft, but I'm glad to see everyone excited about the Zadina pick. Maybe with our 2nd pick this round we can grab a guy on D?

I've never forgotten Roberts punching Frazen in the head his first game back from a concussion. I hope that scum bag feels guilty about it.
