Right, I think Abdelkader is more like Maltby. Eaves maybe a better comparison to Doug Brown or Brent Gilchrist. I found it weird on the October 30th game I was at against Nashville, with Maltby retired and Draper injured, not seeing those two lead the warm up.

Unruly Russian hockey team kicked off flight My question is, what idiot booked the flight for 6:10am? What did they expect would happen?

I've had a chance to think... I didn't watch the game, even though I'm Canadian I try and distance myself from Canadian hockey fans. I find when it comes to Hockey, Canadians are like girls in the 1960's when it came to the Beatles, they go crazy, and some even lose their composure! I saw the highlights, and I'm wondering if the Canadian fans are as much to blame as everyone else associated with team Canada for this collapse? Correct me if I'm wrong, but after the 3rd Canadian goal, it looked like the victory party began and the fans forgot there was still 20 minutes left to play. Being only 18 and 19 years old, I'm wondering if the players let the fans influence them thinking the gold medal was won? I'm wondering too if the Russian players were being taunted by Canadian fans? I heard some of the Russian players were "giving it" back to the fans when they made their comeback. I'm wondering too if their manhood was being question by Canadian fans, and they responded. I like loud fans, but sometimes I think they can have a negative effect on a game because they can lose their composure, become obnoxious, and can give the opposition more intensive to win. I heard the flight was for 6:15am, so what did they expect? I bet none of these guys went to bed, they were still partying! At least book the flight for the afternoon where everyone will recovering from their hangover.

Just like he has his entire career. Ozzie isn't flashy, but all he does is go out there and wins.
-
I think the last time I watched the NHL ASG was 2000. MLB may have been 2003.
-
A little scary there in the 3rd, but great finish! A couple beauties tonight by Draper and Helm. Ozzie, 401 and counting! Gotta love it
-
I figured after Jimmy got the hook last game, Ozzie would get the start tonight.

Enough Canada-USA talk, back to real hockey and the quest for a 5th Stanley Cup since 1997. I'll be out a bit tonight, but should be home for the last half of the game. We've been playing well on the road lately and I expect it to continue. I'm saying 5-2 Wings!
-
I didn't watch it, or really have a rooting interest. I hate picking sides between Canada and the USA. Each country is great in it's own way, and makes the other country better. Plus I have family and friends living in America. Anyway, I guess my Canadian friends and family will be happy, and the hosts on the FAN590 and people calling in tomorrow will be giddy. It's a good distraction to the Leafs losing 2-1 over the team they're helping to build into an eventual Stanley Cup Champion Edit: Wow, just saw some highlights of the Canada-USA game! How many USA fans were in the crowd? It looked like the game was in Southern Ontario and not Western New York.

I don't know enough to have an opinion or not, but if that's the case, makes sense I guess.
-
As much as I like the current Wings team, I miss the Yzerman-Shanahan-Fedorov days.

I think they way for the NHL to grow among average Americans is to have more Americans in the league, or market the ones they currently have better.

A friend of mine posted some Leafs jokes on my facebook, I'll share them here.. What's a common theme with the Toronto Raptors, Blue Jays, Argonauts, and Maple Leafs, aside from all being from Toronto?... None of them know how to play hockey. What do you call 22 millionaires watching the playoffs?... The Maple Leafs. Why doesn't Hamilton have and NHL team?... Then Toronto would want one too. It's a sad fact that most people who witnessed the Leafs win their last cup were in diapers... It's a fun fact that the next time they win, those same people will be in diapers again. Man goes into a bar with his dog to watch the Leafs game. Bartender says it's ok, so long as the dog doesn't cause any trouble... When the Leafs score their first goal, the dog leaps off the bar stool, does a backflip and dances around on its hind legs. The bartender says to the man, "Hey that's pretty sweet! What happens when they win a game?"... The man replies, "I dunno. I've had him for 3 years and we're yet to see it happen!" What do the Leafs and the Titanic have in common?... The both look good until they hit the ice.

I was thinking today, and asked a few people I know... I think another indication of a future of a franchise is how many prospects they have in the Jr. Championships (we have 5 ). Does anyone know how many Leafs prospects are in the World Jr.'s? I haven't heard any reports on the FAN590 in Toronto about how a Leaf(s) prospect is doing. My guess it's zero. Love it!!
-
Really? I thought Sidney Crosby invented it back in 1993.
-
Ah let them have it, a Canadian team hasn't had a Stanley Cup since 1993. It's their way to distract themselves on how disappointing the Canadian NHL teams have been for almost 20 years. I have a theory that's reason why the tournament is so popular. If the Canadian teams were serious Stanley Cup contenders, this tournament wouldn't be as followed so closely in Canada.

As someone who doesn't really care who wins, likes Canada and America equally, and sings both "Oh Canada" and "The Star Spangled Banner" at sporting events, I'm cheering for Mitch Callahan. Lets Go Red Wings!
-
If Canadians heard this they'd be horrified and there'd be nothing to live for ! According to Canadians, hockey was started in Windsor Nova Scotia. Birthplace of Hockey? I assume all our sports were brought over, in one form or another, from Europeans, and then perfected by North Americans

I've been away a few days, this was the first time I got a chance to watch Tatar's goal celebration. My question is, what's the big deal? I have no problem with it! It's the first goal of his career, he should be excited! Good for him, I hope it's the first of many!
-
Funny, I'm right across the river in Windsor, but I can't watch the game. Where I'm at for New Years doesn't get NHL Center Ice. I'll have to go home, 3 hours to watch a game going on at a place I can see from the balcony.
-
So Tatar scored on his first shot?

Posted in the "HOF Stats" discussion, but should be here too... It's if Ozzie should go in the hall of fame or not, but could be used to decide if his number should be retired or not. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2010/12/red_wings_statistician_offers.html

The debate about Osgood I find similar to Derek Jeter. For years I've heard about some sort of range factor number that says Jeter is a below average Short Stop, however when it comes to Championships, clutch performances, and guys that can handle the pressure of a big game, Jeter's da man! The same can be said for Osgood. Personally I think some stats are overrated. Winning should take a precedence over some stats, because that's why they play, is to win.
-
Nope I didn't forget Hasek. Right, from this current 20 year run, I don't think it's out of the question to have 5, 19, and 30 retired, with 13 and 40 to follow in the next 10 years or so. Osgood is such and interesting debate, on the surface it's a no, but looking at his numbers, how can it not be? They guy's done it all!

I couldn't live up to my promise. I run my own painting business with my old man, so every week I'm at a different house and area of town. I was no where near an Arbys today.
