FYI, I just took the jersey in to get it done (Holmstrom, if you didn't read in the earlier posts), and both guys working at the store, Sports Obsession in Burlington Ontario, were Red Wings fans . I got a, "Hey here's a smart guy" and "Good choice going with Holmstrom" while putting in the order. Burlington is 45 minutes south-west of Toronto. Us Red Wings fans are everywhere!

9/24 Pre-season GDT: Chicago Blackhawks at Red Wings

Crosby sucks! Oh wait, that was last game. -
Agreed. The NHL missed out big time after the USA Olympics team's run to the gold medal game. Crosby's a great player, but after his gold medal winning goal, they should have changed their strategy and cut back on Cindy, and went with more Miller, Parise, Stastny, Kane, Kessel, Ryan, etc.. How can someone who scored the goal to beat team USA be a good choice to market to Americans? Also Kane scored the Stanley Cup game winning goal, and there's nothing on him, so they continue to let marketing opportunities pass them by. Despite his problems with the cab driver, the guy is marketable, he grew a mullet for the playoffs. There's no wonder why the NHL isn't on ESPN. I hope this HBO special flops huge! Edit: and the "Crosby Sucks" chant continues to grow to other arenas.

So not only do they get to be in the outdoor game, they're now going to be on HBO too? Well something else I don't have any interest in watching. Seriously I don't get the NHL's Marketing strategy. Cindy is hated outside Pittsburgh and parts of Canada! There's a lot of great talented players in the NHL, let's give other players some TV time. Enough of Crosby! The NHL is just making him more and more disliked, and they have no clue.

Practice man, practice. We're talking about practice here man, not the real game, but practice. Edit: A.I. can do it better than I can -
How 'bout a Lebda?

Crosby sucks! -
With some of their young talent, they could be contenders by then and selling out the arena every night.

It'll get interesting in a couple years. I'm hearing on the FAN590 in Toronto that more and more owners don't like his CBA. The big markets don't like it because they can't keep their teams together, and the small markets don't like it because they are losing to much money with the floor. Also Fehr and the Players Union are ready to show the owners how much better the league would have been, and can be, with a Luxury Tax instead.

Right. I'm not interested in getting a jersey of someone who could be here a while, and who could be a great player. When it comes to a jersey, I want someone on the back who you could wear to a game 50 years from now and people know exactly who they are. Depending on their age, they either have instant memories, or remember the stories they've heard or things they've watched. Last year I bought one of those Granderson Tigers jersey t-shirts and already it's unwearable because of his trade to the Yankees. Good thing I didn't buy an actual jersey!

Why am I not surprised the Sabres slug logo didn't work? As the rest of you, I don't like the royal blue one, but if it's based on an old jersey and it's just the 3rd jersey, I don't have a problem with it.

Sweeeet!

Thanks for the votes, I'm going with Holmstrom (probably my favorite Wings after the Yzerman era), but the other 4 crossed my mind, which is why I included them in the poll. I even thought of Helm, but it's to early for me to get his name on a jersey. We'll see though, maybe 10 years from now.

Wow, no love for Draper!

With a comment like that, how long have you been a Red Wings fan? Two years?

On the FAN590 today they were talking to someone from New York. He said he wouldn't be surprised if there's an Owners revolt against Bettman before the next CBA. Bettman has his supporters, but there's a growing number of small markets and big markets who don't like him and his CBA. They're realizing they were in better financial shape before the lockout. Also some Owners are realizing too that Bettman has to much power. This could get interesting. Lou Lamoriello was one of the GM's who helped write up the current CBA, and isn't happy with the fine... Personally I think this whole Kovalchuk thing is the beginning of the end for Bettman. Also I think Donald Fehr is really going to expose the CBA in the next negotiation. I'll go on record and say by the next CBA, Bettman will be out and there will be a Luxury Tax system in place.
-
Keep pissing people off Gary! The more people you screw around with, the more people don't like you, and you're looking for another job. Today I heard on the FAN590's Center Ice with Greg Brady, Doug MacLean, and Nick Kypros, Bettman is going to try and get rid of guaranteed contracts.

Welcome back Huds, I'll never forget the time during warmups (08-09 season), while standing in the corner behind the glass and watching Ozzie, you fired the puck at my face. You would have hit me square in the nose if it wasn't for the glass!

Bring back the negative ratings!
-
Oh well, can't be much worse than what we saw in the series against SJ last year and Pittsburgh two years ago.
-
What are these risers you guys are talking about? And what makes them bad? Just like everyone else said, I've never had a bad seat at the Joe, and one time I sat two rows in front of the owner's box!

That's like the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League, the fans own them. The city of Regina, where the team plays, is only 200,000 and the Province is only 1,000,000 so there isn't enough corporate support. If the city wants a team, the fans need to own it. It makes for a great atmosphere at home games. Actually Saskatchewan by far has the best fans in the league, and I'm not just saying that because I am one

No way, the East is sooo even, they'll beat up each other.
-
Yea 55fan smarten up! I think the Wings are the best team in the West again and will be back in the final. While all the other big guns in the Conference either lost players or stayed with who they had, we added. Plus our guys will be healthier than last year. The East is tough, the teams are a little more even over there than the West. I'll say the Flyers win the East. In a Wings-Flyers final, I'm taking Detroit! Edit: Vancouver may win the West in the Regular Season, but when it comes to the playoffs, they're Vancouver...
