Red Wings Opening Negotiations to Extend Babcock's Contract
Barrie replied to CenterIce's topic in General
Sounds good to me  -
It doesn't make much sense for the Leafs to get him, which is probably why Burke will trade for him
-
Smart on their part. Despite having to unload some salary, they're going to be good for a while.
-
I'm shocked the Sharks signed Marleau for that deal!
-
Yea I'm sure hooon fine, just had to say something I'm a big fan of both players as well, I'd be good either way too.
-
Did you see this in the description? This officially licensed tee shirt is designed with the printed winged wheel logo and NHL® shield on the front, and Franzen's name and number printed on the back. Generously cut. Reebok®. Either you're getting a Franzen or they didn't update the description properly.

You and me both. Tonight I'm watching the Tiger and Braves, then checking the highlights later to see what the Red Wings did.

My questions is what's the Floor at? The Floor keeps going up too, I wonder how many more teams are going to have financial trouble? But according to Gary, everything's fine.

The Leafs are helping the Bruins end their Cup drought. Boston is going to win the Cup soon!
-
Yea but the team was in place, all he had to do was make a few moves. He's starting from scratch in Toronto, and already pissed away two 1st round draft picks.
-
So I heard on the radio today Burke thinks the Leafs can be contending for a Cup in 5 years... Realistically it's more like contending for a playoff spot in 5 years. Burke is turning into one of those people, who when they talk, I just tune them out. He's full of it!

I find the best way for me to stay up while driving at night is to keep the car cold and play my favorite music. The combo of being cold and singing keeps me awake! Of course, coffee always helps too!
-
I'm glad to hear he's ok. Funny, I was on the same highway, 1-81, two days earlier around the same time, coming home from a trip to New York City!
-
Agree with but he would easily be one of my favorites if he played for the Wings part. Despite playing him almost every year in the playoffs since 1996 and his hit on Holmstrom in 2007, I really can't hate Pronger. Great response to the Burish comments, he made Adam look like a big ******!
-
He's no Mule, but Edler would have been a decent pick if it happened. Edler Stats You mean the Islanders drafting Pat Lafontaine before we could. We settled for Yzerman 4th overall.
-
Great! Although I'm a little surprised to see Nill stay for that long too as an Assistant! I guess being Assistant GM in Detroit is better than any other GM job in the League.

Yea looking back at it the 96-97 team was a machine. Funny, I've always thought the weakest part of the 01-02 team was the Defense. After Lidstrom and Chelios it took a big step down, with Fischer, Olausson, Dandenault, and Duchesne. Fischer was solid that year, but Olausson, Dandenault, and Duchesne were average or below average in my opinion. I thought 07-08 had the best D with Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall, Stuart, Lilja/Chelios, and Lebda. That second pairing of Kronwall and Stuart was excellent! Plus opponents were wondering if they would be the next one to be "Kronwalled"
-
Right, they weren't getting the minutes on the Wings playing behind guys like Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Rafaski, Filp, Cleary, Holmstrom, Kronwall, Stuart, etc. Who do we want playing important minutes here, the guys I just listed, or Kopecky, Leino, and Quincey? Also, Sammy we had to let go because of the cap.
-
Agree 100% Edit: A quick add about Williams, he was injured last year, can't fault Kenny for that.
-
When comparing the 07-08 team to 01-02, and 96-97 and 97-98, I was so impressed with how they won the Stanley Cup. Other than being tied 2-2 against Nashville, there was never really any doubt that they were going to win it all! Plus Ozzie was in a grove all season. 96-97 there was still that fear of the unknown, everything being new, and wondering if they really could do it! 97-98, they went down 2-1 to Phoenix, then we had to deal with Ozzie trying to stop the long shots. I thought we were done after the Langenbrunner goal. 01-02 they went down 0-2 to Vancouver, and were down 3-2 to Colorado. Forsberg's OT goal, like Langenbrunner's, felt like a killer! Even losing game 1 to Carolina, and their trap made me nervous! 07-08 won the first two games of every series. True Nashville tied it, Dallas won a couple games after we went up 3-0, and Pittsburgh won Game 5, but the 07-08 Wings we in control from beginning to end.
-
Actually part of me thinks the 07-08 team could beat the 01-02 team in a best of 7.
-
Agreed. Playing the 1st and 3rd seed, and an excellent Philly team, I don't see how anyone can say they had an easy ride to the Cup. It was mentioned already, but the 08 Wings had it really easy playing Nashville, Colorado, and Dallas. That's not a knock on the Wings, that's a knock on the other high seeded teams that year for not advancing. The Wings just took advantage of their opportunities.

Nice job Clears

lol, sounds like something Burke would say.
