  1. IF we couldn't get passed the first rd with lidstrom,Stuart and hurdler. Babcock insist with the current roster were headed backwards.. How does tootoo , Samuelson, Gustafson make us better? We've went backwards. Low balling these free agents assuming cause they would wear the wing wheel doesn't bring these free agents in anymore. We no longer have yzerman, shanhan, chelios, lidstrom to lure in big fish kids. It will stay that way until holland decides to outbid his opponent in free agency. Something he has never done.

  2. ...and just like you and me AND the media, he is thinking why doesn't anyone want to be here? Because Holland lowballs...In this market, if you want to big names, you have to overpay, outbid, and offer REAL helluva offers for star players... I am glad he has tried, but if he didn't try as hard as everyone else, then he didn't really try, did he? His model remains the same...Euro, Euro, N/A, Euro. Then bring in or back OLD Euro. Sammy is an upgrade as a whole over Hudler, Brunner we don't know, Tootoo, baffles me wy he came here, he probably thought 99.9% that his buddy Suter was coming here, just like the rest of the world, just like Suter did, until his wife ruled otherwise and Holland offered him less money than Minny...Holland can still redeem himself by acquiring Ryan...which would help bigtime in getting Perry or Getzlaf next year. (but I doubt he gets any of them.) I still belive by time training camp hits, Lilja will be a Wing again...

I fully, FULLY expect Hudler to be back in 4 years...this is Holland's model. He refuses to change with the times...

Left winger you truly know your hockey son. I agree with you. Think Kenny will call larinov or federov.

He may as well since he's failed to land a stud free agent Canadian since he's been the gm.

  3. Well said. I like how holland stressed that we needed a top scoring forward and yet he backtracks were fine when he loses out on all these forwards. Same goes for d.. I think we outta start worrying of drafting north American hockey players instead of euros every yr if we wanna land Canadian,American players. I personally think its hurting our team when it comes to free agency. Holland hasn't made any moves at the trade deadline for a few years now. His confidence were okay with the team we have is losing credibility with the wings being bounced from the playoffs so quick. Man I almost wish we had Stevie y as our gm.

He's active and headed in the right direction with the lightning.

  4. Disappointing to say the least. Here's some highlights from a couple morning articles. Don't expect any new Red Wings anytime soon folks!

Basically, SOMEDAY we'll get a good player.....

Yes Holland, you're right. It's not like we have any kind of scoring problem and desperately need a top 6 forward, despite the fact that we scored an average of 1.8 goals per game during the playoffs AND our own coach said we lost due to weakness in scoring potential for our 2nd and 3rd lines. Sure Holland, all is fine.

And yeah, saying Smith and Quincey will replace Lidstrom and Stuart, respectively, is in it's own level of idiocy alone.

    Enjoy your summer folks.

  5. You didn't watch the capitals in the playoffs this year did ya? Semin was playing excellent two way hockey for caps. I'm not big on Russian players even since federov. However semin would be the guy taking the shots on the wings, rather than watching ovechkin take 10 a game. watching pavel and Alexander at the worlds they were incredible together like they have been playing together for years. Like I sId I'm not big on Russian players but semin and datsyuk would be scary

  6. Semin has proven that he can be a point per game player if he feels like it, and has had one solid playoff year. Besides that, he's been on the decline with Ovechkin on his line, and provided 4 points in 14 playoff games and managed a -4. He's appealing because he's one of the few options left, but all we'd be getting is another Franzen that doesn't produce as much in the playoffs. I know people think Semin playing with Datsyuk would "spark" his play, but if he's already underwhelming on a line with Alex Ovechkin who is one of the more intense and exciting players in hockey, then i'm not entire sure Datsyuk would motivate him either.

I'm completely for bringing in Yandle, but how realistic of a trade option that is remains unknown.

I'm not opposed to going into this season and sticking out a tough year until the offseason next year when we can spend cap money on a player that we can actually benefit from more and lock up to a longer term contract. There's no reason to spend money on the "leftovers" this year just because the money is there to spend when we can be a front runner having a lot of cap room next year and have more logical free agent options.

I for one wouldn't mind being among the teams throwing offer sheets at Tobias Enstrom next year.

  7. If the cap goes down teams that are over will have to get under the cap. Which means overpaid guys like suter, parise will be out the door unless they rework their contracts to be cap friendly. Much like the NFL players. Players are asked to rework their contracts to help there teAm get under the salary cap and if they decline they get cut. The NHL is going that same route with a new Cba with a projected lower salary cap.

  8. He is looking for 5 years and at least 6 million, should that be true I hope Pittsburgh or New Jersey will sign him.

As for Holland give the guy 1 year 5.5 take it or leave it.

Sounds right didn't he make between four and five mill in wash. Pitt offered him 3 years 18 mill I heard. Offer him two million more and we have a sniper to play on a line with pavel.

  9. You haven't watched evader Kane play much huh? You act like he was lucky tp score 30 goals in a season. He has size what we need. He has a heavy shot. He is physical and he has speed. Something the wings lack. What does our team lack in? We lack a wing that can finish. To say he only had one good season and that he may not do it here is a reach. Like I stated he has never played on a line with skill like the wings have.

  10. Success with one team does not necessarily indicate success with all teams; and as someone here noted, it's not uncommon for players to move to a better team and see their production decrease rather than increase. And I'll repeat that he has had ONE 30-goal season. That does not justify serving him a massive offer sheet and losing a bunch of draft picks.

  11. The guy has one repeat ONE thirty-goal season. Does this justify a huge offer sheet and the loss of a bunch of draft picks in the first three rounds?

Who's he play on a line with? He's worth the draft picks being our first rd picks are at the back of the pack and we seem to strike gold in rds 3,4,5 so yes he's worth it. Kane has never played wth the talent the wings have.

  12. Just how many shut down defensman are there in the NHL? Not to many bubb. All we need is a solid defensman since there are no shut dmen available in free agency not to mention no team would trade Detroit their franchise d. Holland would have to give up alot of youth to land a solid defensman. I don't see it happining since he keeps insisting he's good with what we have. He's gonna sit back and wait for a new Cba and put the wings in the right position cap wise to land someone. As long as we have z,pavel were gonna be competitive. Truth is we cannot replace a legend. Wasn't kindl and smith drafted in rd 1 it's obvious the organization thinks highly of them both being they drafted pavel,z and lidstrom in what rd? Look how they turned out by giving them ice time and patience

  13. Semin and Datsyuk were great at WC. Datsyuk needs someone with some skill and a shot on his line, Bertuzzi isn't cutting it, and a lot of the time, neither is Franzen. Have Pasha make a phone call and start negotiations at 4 years, $22mil. Why we wouldn't at least try is a complete mystery to me. We need defense, but one has nothing to do with the other.

Sign Semin. He isn't the best, but he will fit, and hell, with all the reclamation projects everyone loves around here, wouldn't we just as soon reclaim a player like Semin, with the production intact and the attitude needing work, as we would a guy like Cleary?

You got it. Was it mentioned We don't hVe to give up anybody to land a sniper like semin and we certainly don't have to pay what the wild did for parise. Throw the offer down Kenny.

  14. Can we get some people on record calling Cleary dead weight, so when he bounces back and has another 20 goal year, you can all eat crow? The guy is a warrior who gives it his all night in and night out and was still one of our best forwards come playoff time DESPITE playing on knees that were basically held together by twine and bubble gum... He had successful surgery and will come back with a bang this year, mark my words, and you can even bookmark this post.

Your right on the money about cleary. I've been to many games and he's always hustling he never stops skating. It's hard to give up on guys like that.

  15. People seem to forget our system of playing defense not to mention we have two of thee best two way forwards in the world in z and dats. I really think kindl and smith will suprise people. If our farm system is right and how the wings bring guys up later rather then right away like other teams. We will be okay. Holland is the best in the business and he always has a plan for the wings. Quincy came from Colorado system and was in transition the last few weeks. He will play better with training camp under his belt. Kindl needs to play on line with someone who will stay back when he wants to gamble. He's young and has alot to learn but his upside is good much like jiri Fischer when he first came into the league. Fischer was just starting to come into his own in year four. Sadly he had to retire for health reasons. My point. Patience! These guys will be okay. Worst case the wings stink it up we will get something we haven't had in 20 plus seasons. A really really good first rd pick.

  16. Semin, datsyuk line was amazing at the worlds. Watching semin play in this years playoffs he played fantastic like he was trying to prove something. it's scary to think how much it would help pavel on a line with him. Pavel would actually have a sniper something we've been lacking since 81 left.

  17. Well said number 9. Losing lidstrom, raffy and Stu hurts our d badly. No need to panic tho as far as rebuilding. In the end when the Cba expires next yr. Were gonna see teams that are over paying and in cap prison start dropping guys left and right. This will be our time to pounce on some free agents. As far as a rebuild we don't need to rebuild every yr we bring in one or two rookies at camp with the opp to earn a roster spot whether they earn over our veterans is another thing. Nyquist. B smith and brunner all young. If we can sign a semin and make a move fpr a decent defensman we will be okay.

  18. Good lord, why is there such an allure to rebuilding? I swear some of you just can't stand not seeing Landeskog's, RNH's, Yakupov's, and other high profile overrated prospects in our system...you'd think the last 20 years of wings drafting would change that, but apparently not.

Why in gods name would we rebuild? we have Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Howard, Kronwall, Helm, Franzen, and Filppula...that's 7 high caliber championship players. You don't rebuild when you have assets like that lol. There are teams with wayyyyy less than what we have who aren't rebuilding, why in the hell would we?

Oh, and did I also mention we already have an extremely deep pool of prospects? Smith, Nyquist, Jarnkrok, Mrazek, Tatar, Sheahan, Jurco, Sproul, Andersson, Ouellet, Pulkkinen, Tvrdon, Marchenko, Quine, Ferraro, Callahan, Frk, Athanasiou, Mckee, Paterson, Nestrasil, Dekeyster (most likely)....we need to tank to acquire prospects why?

Our D is tore up yes....but our forward lines are more than shored up, and our goaltending is shored up...we'll probably end up trading some of our many extra forwards for more d-men so chill man.
