  1. Living where I do and living with a BJ fan, I take issue with Rick Nash's hustle. He's constantly lackadaisically skating around unless of course there's a scoring chance and then he turns on the jets. Otherwise, it's floating in circles around the ice and an apparent allergy to backchecking.

Maybe being part of the Wings and the expectations that comes with it would change his work ethic. I'd like to think it would. But I fear we could be giving up a lot for a clearly more talented, yet much higher paid Robert Lang.

Look at the team he was on and how they were performing. I'd be cheery picking if I'm Nash. Change is best for both parties. Either way the jackets will look good when they do trade off Nash. Yakopov is gonna be a star. A smaller version of oveckin. And all those other first rd picks. Sadly the wings do not have the assets to land Nash unless it's a three player trade and we give up someone big.

  2. I think Grabaski would be a GREAT pickup for the Wings. He provides speed, good passer and loves to shoot the puck. A guy like that is what this team could use and it would help spread out the offense for us in the playoffs. We could consistently rely on Pavs, Hank, Grabby, Franzen, Fil and Bert as our top 6 and dont forget the amazing bottom 6 we have. Also I think Grabby playing with Pavs would be a huge upgrade for that line over Franzen because it would give Pavs speed to work with and a player who actually tries every shift.

Excellent move couldn't agree more. I heard all the leafs want for grabs is a second rd pick. Roll the dice kenny

  3. Part of the reason for the second lines woes on the road are. Babcock quickly puts hanks line out after teams focus

On datsyuks line on the road, the home gets the last line change. Which means more minuses if the opposing team is scoring. Which is exactly

Why the wings need a scorer come deadline not a fourth line grinder.

  4. I was just commenting on this in another thread and thought I'd start something here. Looking at the season splits on ESPN I noticed something problematic. I know the Wings are the best team in hockey right now, and I'm not trying to be overly pessimistic, I think we're largely as good as anybody out there and I can't complain, but if you look at the areas where we're weak something stands out pretty obviously.

Datysuk (+/-) Overall: 18, On the Road: 4, In Wins: 25, In Losses: -7

Franzen (+/-) Overall: 27, On the Road: 7, In Wins: 33, In Losses: -6

Bertuzzi (+/-) Overall: 21, On the Road: 9, In Wins: 20, In Losses: 1

Filppula (+/-) Overall: 15, On the Road: -6, In Wins: 28, In Losses: -13

Zetterberg (+/-) Overall: 8, On the Road: -6, In Wins: 26, In Losses: -18

Hudler (+/-) Overall: 6, On the Road: -9, In Wins: 21, In Losses: -15

Kronwall: Overall: -1, On the Road: -11, In Wins: 16, In Losses: -17

Stuart: Overall: 16, On the Road: -4, In Wins: 28, In Losses: -12

White: Overall: 28, On the Road: 10, In Wins: 22, In Losses: 6

Lidstrom: Overall: 26, On the Road: 2, In Wins: 35, In Losses: -9

I wanted to compare the top two lines as whole units considering +/- is a group stat. What jumps out at me is that while we don't lose much, when we do lose, it's usually (and obviously) on the road, and it's usually the second line getting scored on/not scoring. Aside from trading for a top six guy, which we've all talked about to death, does anybody see a solution to this problem or are we just going to have to deal with it and hope our first and third lines win us games on the road. I mean, presumably we can't win all our playoff home games...um...right?

Note: I guess I should add that while Filppula and Hudler's production has dipped slightly of late, Zetterberg's is picking up, and all of them are having good seasons IMO. So don't take this as a knock on individual players, but as a unit there's something not quite clicking for them on the road.

  5. Just an observation, last night's game was a perfect indicator that the Red Wings NEED a top line scorer that shows up every night to play. I certain hope Holland addresses this problem by the deadline because these are the teams we are going to be facing in the playoffs....Vancouver, San Jose, St. Louis...even Chicago still gives us fits. Please Kenny....PLEASE! WE NEED A REAL CLUTCH SCORING WINGER!

Exactly! Come playoffs when zetterburg and datsyuk are being focused on being s*** down we will need scoring from spmeone else. Look at the last two years. Zetterburg was placed to focus on thortons line. However thorton was shutting down z. We lacked the scoring with franzens ankle hurt. Guys get hurt in the playoffs u have to be deep.

  6. Agreed. Aside from dats and z. They really need another skating foward who can put picks in the net not to mention cross the oppositions blue line to create offense. Come playoff time when it's a grind and star towards are being blanketed depth is the key which is why so Many teams with depth make it further then most. Wings can use a seleane, semin type foward. Not a grinder they're are set with that with their third and fourth lines.

    Sorry for the typos.

  7. I think the Wings need a higher scoring forward going into the playoffs. Z, Fil, and Franz do not have many shots on goal... though Z made and created many opportunities as he always does. We can use the help guys. The Canucks whom I highly dislike are going to be there as well as the Shark, Blues, and Hawks. We need more fire power up front.

  8. I have gotten that same feeling in the past 24 hours with the moves going on with the wings. It just feels like the Quincey trade was a precursor to something else. Maybe I'm just being hopeful that something more is going on but Kenny always seems to make deals that no one is expecting. Even though the Wings have been playing really well and have good chemistry the only thing that matters is getting it done in the post season. We can't afford to lose to the Sharks again this year! I'm sure Kenny has a plan and I do think there will be another move by the deadline.

In a related note my close friend works for the Maple Leafs and I'm not sure where he is getting his info from but he claims the Red Wings have submitted some sort of offer for Grabovski. Have no idea where he heard this and it shouldn't be taken to seriously but just thought that was interesting.

That's the scoring foward our team needs. Throw him on a line dats or Hank. Could be nice.

  9. Exactly. Kindl has a huge upside. He needs tp develope. The wings made that mistake a couple years ago in quincy. Fans need to relax. Holland made a great deal. Our first rounder was gonna be a late anywAys. The draft class this year is really poor and in the wings system most guys drafted dont make our club for four tp five years anyways. Holland made this deal cause the defensman he targeted were traded. Thank god we didn't trade for kubIna who's old.

  10. Lol some of you fans crack me up. The guy just got back from injury of course he's gonna look like s*** being he was dead tired. Cleary is one the wings biggest hustlers when it comes to speed a nd getting to those loose pucks. Go to a wings game and actually watch the players you'd see that. If u wanna talk about anyone looking like s*** try holmstorm who once again took a stupid penalty and couldn't check if he life depended on it.

  11. So why are the Wings giving up a first round pick for a guy they drafted in the 4th round and then wound up waving for nothing? If he was that good to begin with they would not of waived him but now you give up a first for a cast off? Is Kenny Holland just feeling sympathy for Stevie Yzerman or does our team not believe in drafting in the first round? Brian Burke wouldn't of made this deal for God's sake!

For one Brian Burke is not even in the same class as Kenny holland. Quincy was put on waivers because they believed in meech. Little did they know Quincy would pan out the way he did. Some players take a little time to develope. Seems that will be the case with kindl who has amazing upside. Quincy is a huge upgrade over a washed up paved kubina not to mention he already knows the wings system from being here before.. Holland traded our first cause he lands big time players later in the draft. look. What he did last yr in the draft. Traded out of the first. Land Tomas jurco iin the second.

  12. I can't remember an incidence when Holland did what rumors and fans predicted/hoped/expected. His trades are always completely out of the blue. In any event, i would love to see Malone or Morrow wearing a Wings sweater next week, especially after watching the game against the sharks. We need physical, smart, effective contributors just for the occasion that we vs the sharks in the playoffs.

Also, I'm scared to death what this team will look like when Stuart is gone. I'll probably get a lot of flak for this but I think he's been our best defenseman this year, lidstrom including. It seems like he singlehandedly stops a goal once every three games, and he's the only dman we have who is really effective in the corners against players like the sharks when the cycle is established, or during a tight dump and chase. I would love for holland to pick up a defenseman with a similar playing style to Stuart.

  13. So let me try to understand what you are saying....

Hudler is a superior hockey player to Nash. So if Nash is offered to Detroit for something reasonable that Holland had no problem giving up, he should pass on it because he has Hudler. The same Hudler that is superior to Nash. You know we are talking about Rick Nash right? Not Nash Bridges...

The guy who wrote the comparisons of hudler and Nash forgot one important fact. Nash skating backwards is faster then hudler skating foward.

  14. Because other teams son't like to do the Wings any favors. They are all jealous and would screw the Wings in a lopsided trade demand and then accept less from another team for the same player(s). That is why there is NO WAY Detroit will get Nash. Columbus will demand Zetterberg or Franzen in return (if not both) and then accept decent prospects and draft picks from Toronto or San Jose et al.

No doubt. Yea getting Nash would cost us huge. Probably four of our best prospects with a first rd pick.

  15. Wonder y these teams can offer up very little and get decent people in return. Grossman for a second round pick was a steal for Philly. Hopefully we can pffer our second rd pick and pull a sniper out the hat. Pfft. Probably not
