  1. Yep my bad on mispelling that weasels name. I'm glad I'm not the only one that notices this guys love for the pens. Drives me crazy like it did all those years John madden was in love the packers and cowboys. When the day comes where u can slap someone thru the tv mr McGuire will have a red face

  2. I love how Pierre McGwire. Chimes in on the parise chat signing with wings and mentions Crosby and pens as being a great location for parise. NBC truley stands for : nothing but Crosby! Man I wish I could sock McGwire!

  3. Seems it will be hard to land parise and suter together with the pens freeing up money to make a push for them. My fear is parise being really good friends with Crosby and suter and parise stating they wanna play together. we may end up with neither. If that's the the case then Kenny not making any moves at the deadline will haunt us. Were down two defensman and were not guaranteed we'll get the best one on the market with other teams interested and throwing them dollars. If we lose out on suter and parise. We need to go second tier and build on the fly. That means semin, garrison, carle, save that money and make a run at weber since he will most likely test the waters next season. Hopefully our team being almost all euros will not detour these north American stars fron signing with our team.

  4. Couldn't post this in prospects, and I'm new, so if this is out of context let me know. Regardless, thought this poll would be a lot of fun. "Big" means elite.

I personally believe Nyquist, Jurco, Jarnkrok and Smith.

Anyone seen any of these guys play as a side question?

Hossa and smith for sure. Jankrok is really small and he needs to pack on about 30 pounds. Specially at the NHL level. Nyquist will do great assimg he plays on a number one or two line. Same with jurco.

  5. As much as helm assets is valuable. This deal would help the wings assuming we sign parise and suter. It gives you two really good defensman. Green would be ideal for quarter backing the power play. Tatar,Jurco others are waiting to come up. so we'd have young fresh legs with speed. Not sure the wings move franzen tho being his contract is cap friendly. Wings outta focus on free agency first tho. Let's get suter a d Justin Shultz first.

  6. Jim Matheson reports Red Wings GM Ken Holland is believed eyeing potential UFAs Ryan Suter (Nashville) and Zach Parise (New Jersey) if they aren’t re-signed by their respective clubs, and would be willing to trade for their negotiating rights. He also observed an “intriguing” trade proposal from the web  in which “the Washington Capitals trading Mike Green and centre Brooks Laich to the Red Wings for Johan Franzen, Darren Helm and (Jakub) Kindl”

    Reported from spectorshockey.net

  7. We outta give the oilers a call and offer Quincy, kindl and filpulla for that number 1 overall. Being the oilers gm has made it known they want blue line help. Then we can draft Yakapov and spend on free agency on d. Quincy is young and has value. Just not sure he fit in with our system.

  8. Yea good thing you are not the gm. We'd break our 22 straight of making the playoffs with a massive overhaul. Adding a couple free agents would Put us in contention again. I laugh at some of the people on here posting all year how we needed a fourth line grinder befOre the deadline. It's been obvious for what the wings lacked. They have so many playmakers and yet no true snipers. They lack speed and size. There older players are the guys who have been injured thru the yr and the playoffs yet they compete. They need to realistcly let guys like bertuzzi, holmstrom, hudler walk. Yes bring in guys like d jones,Sheehan, jurco. All have size and skill. Then you add in a parise and you have a dangerous scoring team. I like yur thoughts on the d. Just not sure they would play kindl over b smith. Wings outta offer parise, suter deals and retool on the fly.

  9. Jurco scores a goal and assists on game winner in double OT as the Sea Dogs take 1-0 leading in the QMJHL Finals. Jurco is all over the highlights creating chances and some good defensive coverage (as well as some poor defensive coverage). Saint. John looking to repeat as Memorial Cup champs

And to answer the above question he missed some time due to injury as well as playing in the WJC

He reminds me so much of Marian hossa. Scouts were right when they made those comparisons. He's difinetly a first or second line sniper.

  10. You hit the nail on the head. Too many guys trying to mAke a play and we lack the guys to finish off at the net. Seems like when we do get a shot. We are no where's near the rebound for those scoring chances. We need a powerfoward like a Jamie Benn James Neal type player. I don't think the wings are far off just some tweaking. Maybe go out and get guys have speed is a start.

  11. 40-some shots is quite a bit.....i get that....

but does it seem to you guys like no one on this team has a shooter's mentality?

There were two occasions i saw in today's game that really stand out to me:

    1. Hank coming towards the bottom of the circle along the boards and sets Hudler up with a pass that lands him somewhere very close to the slot. no one is around him and he....one touch passes it back to Hank.

    2. i forget who has the puck to the side of the net close to the boards and Filppula is gliding in ready to blast a one timer from the top of the circle and he.....fakes the shot and eventually turns it over.

this team, to me, is void of a shooter. Mule has been fighting the puck in these first three games; he's been relatively invisible.

Hank will shoot....but his shot is above average i think.

Pav will shoot.....but his shot is...well....not that good. :(

maybe (probably) i am talking crazy talk

  12. The wings problems are far more then lidstrom. Their main problem is they aren't getting those second and third chances. They're losing the board battles. I've been saying it fpr years the wings lack speed and let's be honest have gotten older. At the deadline all they wanted to do was get a third line grinder. When in reality they needed a scorer. You take pavel and z out of the game. You stand a good chance tp beat Detroit cause there scoring drops off tremendously. Franzen is inconsistent hudler is too small. Filp is more a playmaker then he is a sniper. years past the wings always started out fast. The last last three years. It takes them two periods tp get going! That's where signs of age are showing not to mention the injurys. If I'm Kenny holland. I go out this offseason and get atlwast two snipers. We have to many playmakers and lack the wingers that can finish.

  13. I'm sure it's quite obvious that Lidstrom has been all but non-existent in this series. We all know that he is still hampered by his ankle injury and wouldlikely be missing more time to nurse it if not for the playoffs. He is not playing on the all important PK, has been lacking on the offensive side and has been effective on 5-on-5 but nothing spectacular.

This isn't a headhunting thread but this season and series has been a kick in the face that the end may be sooner than later. While he started out strong he slowed down later in the season and missed a rare significant amount of time with an injury.

What does be look at when he decides it he's going to keep this thing going? He's still playing at a high level and warrants respect every time he's on the ice not only because of his play but because of the name on the back of his jersey. He's done all there is to do and will go down as one of the all time greats. Looking at the last few seasons, particularly this one, this team is closer to taking a step back than contending.

I know he's not going to make a knee jerk decision like us fans, but what are your thoughts in his decision making in the offseason?

  14. doubt it'll ever happen but this is my thought ... if and only IF we get ryan suter signed july 1st what if we trade brendan smith to flyers who are desperate for help in the back end since pronger's likely done ... for james van riemsdyk .... he's a future star in the making ,22 yrs old 6'3 power forward .... again only if ryan suter were to be signed by the wings would i consider doing this?

would anyone consider doing this move? or is smith too valuable to us

I would love this move. However the flyers would never make this deal. Not all teams hold our prospects in high regards like we do. Most teams Play a different system and don't rely on puck movers like we do. I'm afraid to aquire jvr it would coat us a couPle first and a prospect like jurco.

  15. He's too old and slow. Wings don't need any more pylons out there. They have enough of those as it is. time tp ge younger with some speed. This team doesn't need another third or fourth line guy. They need a sniper wo can play with datyuk plain and simple. If he's a Russian player chemistry would almost be automatic
