Players with NTC (Stuart, mainly) are the best option to trade without trading a young player with many good years ahead of him. The biggest problem with an NTC is making it the RIGHT trade so that the player actually waives the NTC. But here's an interesting thought. Offer Stuart to Edmonton for Jean-Francois Jacques and one of Taylor Chorney, Ladislav Smid, or even a 2nd rounder (a 1st rounder if they are willing). Stuart is from halfway between Edmonton and Calgary, so he might be perfectly willing to go for that deal. Stuart's salary is the biggest block between the Wings and retaining Hossa, and Stuart was our worst defenseman in the playoffs, especially in the finals.

Trade Rumor: Osgood and Holmstrom to Flames
eva unit zero replied to King Octopus9's topic in General
I wouldn't even trade Osgood for Kipper straight up. Why would you add something onto the deal going to Calgary? -
Jay Bouwmeester's Rights traded to Calgary
eva unit zero replied to Heroes of Hockeytown's topic in General
Here's something to look for... If Calgary can't sign Bouwmeester... Ottawa signs Bouwmeester. If they do, Kuba is traded for a second/third line forward, a second rounder and maybe a prospect. Schubert is traded for a pick or a third/fourth line forward. Ottawa deals with Heatley later. -
The blue pill, two pink pills, and a deep red-violet pill. Twice a day. Otherwise I end up unconscious and convulsing at some point in the day. Solid white stick deodorant, or the stuff with the ball and the liquid?

Here's a good deal for Hossa. If he retires at 35, it's almost $6m average. If he keeps on after, it's a bit less. If he retires at 34, it's $6m average. Overall cap hit? $3.75m. 09-10: $8 10-11: $6.5 11-12: $6.5 12-13: $5 13-14: $2.5 14-15: $1 15-16: $1 16-17: $1

I was calling Zetterberg a future superstar while he was still playing in Sweden...

Training skates and a rope? -
This should be in the rumor mill. It's no different from the May 25th stuff about Fedorov going to Magnitogorsk. There is no actual source saying he signed, merely a source saying he is believed to have signed and what he is believed to have signed for. That's a huge difference, and what makes the difference between something posted in GD and something posted in RM.

Come on babs put Z and Dats back together!
eva unit zero replied to 13dangledangle's topic in General
Lapointe was producing because of who he played with. Fedorov is still producing decent numbers NOW, so that's a bad example. Hudler has a s***-ton of offensive skill and creates offensive chances out of nothing; this is why he can score so many points with so little ice time. Sammy pretty much only has his defensive play and his shot, which does get him some points but unless he gets himself the puck and gets in position, or has someone to get him the puck, he's not getting a lot of points; this is why Sammy is always used with a skilled playmaker at even strength and on the point on the PP; because he is a decent backchecker and has a heavy, fairly accurate slapshot that can easily turn into goals with a good screen. Sammy also has a good wrister that gains him some goals when he has chances to use it. Sammy could probably be converted to an offense-first defenseman fairly easily, actually. But Hudler will produce no matter where you put him or who he plays with; the Hudler/Draper/Maltby line proved that beyond any argument. Sammy is the kind of guy who has flaws and needs the right players with him to reach his full usefulness, just like a skilled playmaker who is very slow and can't score goals on his own. That's the kind of guy who would thrive with a Samuelsson type, but flounder if he were put with guys who don't have very good finishing skills. Hudler creates offense and can be a playmaker, or if necessary he will drive the net and can score goals on his own. Very good offensive talent, possibly elite in the future. Regardless of where he is playing or who with. -
Chelios should play 3 more years. One with each of Toronto, Boston, and NYR. Then he can retire and run his Cheli's Chili bars in Detroit and wherever else he may want to start them up (one in each 06 city perhaps?)

I doubt Homer gets selected with all the good young Swedish talent. Homer will be passed over because there are players like Franzen and other grinders who can do his job who aren't as old, slow, and defensively deficient. No, they aren't as good at screening the goalie...but taking a guy based on that alone would be like taking Draper for Canada based ONLY on his faceoff ability. Leino is one I missed though; he has a decent shot at the Finnish team, although I don't see him making the final roster.
-
Which of Toronto, Boston, and the Rangers need him the most? That's where he'll be.

Wings from this past season who have a shot at playing in the Olympics: Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen, Hudler, Hossa, Filppula, Samuelsson, Kopecky, Leino, Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall, Ericsson, Lilja, Osgood
-
I'd be fine with Maltby retiring. I don't want Draper to retire because if we're gonna have his cap hit against us, he better ******* be on the roster.

Holland waiting for 09-10 cap (update on contract offers)
eva unit zero replied to 96warrior's topic in General
Teams that may be looking for a #1 goaltender: Colorado, Edmonton Teams that may be looking for a #1a/1b type goaltender: Columbus, Dallas, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Toronto, Washington UFAs/likely trades that may fit the #1 category: Khabibulin, Giguere, Theodore UFAs/likely trades that may fit the #1a/1b category: Fernandez, Roloson, Hedberg, Biron, Clemmensen, Gerber, Niitymaki, Garon, Conklin, Anderson Many of these goalies will end up as backups somewhere. That won't be Detroit as the Wings won't be able to pay them the kind of money they'll command. -
Heatley gives list of teams he'd accept trade to
eva unit zero replied to crazy13's topic in General
Potential trade situation: To Ottawa: D Brian Campbell CHI 2nd To Chicago: LW Dany Heatley Similar cap hits, so Chicago gets all of Khabibulin's cap hit to figure out their roster. Ottawa still has good forwards, and Campbell would provide a nice addition to the backend that they just don't have. Adding a Schubert or Campoli into the deal so Chicago gets a defenseman back as they only have a couple signed might also make a little sense. -

Had to move Lilja to make the cap...but you can swap Meech or Kindl with Ericsson if you like. Does shore up the defense a bit on the third pair. -
If the Wings could get a 2nd or third for Tomas Holmstrom and sign Fedorov for the same money or less to a one year deal, I'd take that in an instant. Fedorov is MUCH better than Homer as a player, plus we'd be getting a pick.

Holland waiting for 09-10 cap (update on contract offers)
eva unit zero replied to 96warrior's topic in General
Ozzie could move as high as 7th in wins all-time next season, and 4th the year after that. I'd like to see someone argue why he doesn't belong in the HOF with those kind of win numbers and his career winning percentage, plus no losing seasons. EDIT: How long do you think it would take for Ozzie to get 28 more shutouts? That would put him 9th All-Time. 35 more would jump him to a tie for 5th. He's currently 12th with 49. CuJo is 11th with 51. Esposito and Belfour are tied at 9th with 76. -

If Hossa takes a $4m even cap hit... Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Cleary Franzen/Hudler/Hossa Leino/Filppula/Holmstrom Helm/Draper/Kopecky Maltby Lidstrom/Rafalski Kronwall/Ericsson Meech/Kindl Lebda Osgood Howard Close to the cap, but gets better if Huds and Leino take their qualifying offers. -
The Lady Byng honestly has nothing to do with penalties taken. Take a look at the voting and see where Jarome Iginla ranked. IIRC he was 12th in the voting. He's not 12th in his division in gentlemanly play.

Holland waiting for 09-10 cap (update on contract offers)

Howard will probably be the backup, as I have been saying all along. Osgood likely sees around 60-65 games in this case. Possibly more or less, depending on the performance of the two. -
If You Think Hudler's NOT worth $3 Million...
eva unit zero replied to LeftWinger's topic in General
Filppula's stock has risen quicker than Hudler's stock has, this is true. But that's like saying that "Joe's Electronic's" which started as a single-store unit in 1999 and is now a national chain has risen faster than Best Buy in the same time frame. Hudler's stock started out MUCH higher. Based on his skill level, he was projected to go top ten, perhaps even top-five in his draft. His SIZE is what caused him to fall so far. He is a gritty forechecker and despite his past defensive flaws, is now an above average defensive forward. Also, with regard to his skating, he may have had skating problems in the past but has developed into a skilled skater with better than average speed. Your complaints about Hudler seem to be based more on stereotype and scouting reports from five or more years ago than on what he actually puts on the ice. I am not calling for Hudler to get a $3m contract. Rather, I was upset what Filppula did. But honestly, Filppula is the closest player to compare Hudler to of any player on the Wings, and the comparison is pretty even. Hudler is better offensively, Filppula is better defensively. They are the same age. Overall, they are about even, each with their advantages. Hudler will probably cost less to re-sign than Filppula costs. I would prefer to keep both, but as far as the cap is concerned, the Wings have plenty of skilled defensive forwards, but few offensive forwards with the talent and potential of Hudler. The real question is, will we be able to keep both, and how? -
Gates. He is easily the choice. He has made charitable contributions beyond our wildest dreams and a couple of years ago took on a much smaller role in running Microsoft so that he could do more work with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which he and his wife founded in 1994 and is the largest transparently operated private foundation in the world. Its aim is to globally increase health care and reduce poverty, and to expand educational opportunities and access to information in the United States. It donates over $1.5 billion dollars to charitable work every year. Root Beer or Creme Soda?

Conklin would love to stay here. That's fine and dandy...but when some other team offers him $2.5m, do you think he stays in Detroit for no raise? Colorado could use a goaltender. Edmonton doesn't have anyone who has shown they can play at the NHL level. Other teams looking for a strong backup or 1B goaltender might even offer him $1.5m or $2m to come there. St. Louis, Toronto, Anaheim (if they trade Giguere), Calgary, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Tampa Bay all might come calling on Conklin as well.
