Hossa's agent hints about contract possibilities
eva unit zero replied to 40#1Fan's topic in General
Ritch Winter said the cap hit will likely be about $6m. Based on that, and the other signings that have happened (Franzen and Zetterberg) here is the best realistic outcome I can foresee: Current full-time roster free agents Hudler signs for $1.8 Kopecky signs for $575k Samuelsson is allowed to leave as a UFA Chelios retires or is allowed to leave as a UFA Conklin is allowed to leave as a UFA AHL roster free agents Leino signs for $1m Promoted from AHL to NHL full time Leino, Helm, Ericsson, Howard Traded for picks or prospects Filppula, Stuart (has to waive NTC) This results in a 21-man roster with Meech as the only spare. The Wings would also have about $650k cap space, so Ryno, Ritola or Tardif, or someone else may be added to AHL promotions, or Downey or another cheap vet may get the 13th spot instead of Meech serving double-duty. If Larsson is serving as backup instead of Howard, it's almost enough cap space to add Abdelkader as the 13th forward on the roster (probably on the 3rd or 4th line). If Stuart doesn't waive his NTC, then it's probably a trade of Kronwall and Hudler for a couple high picks and a top prospect, including at least one or two first rounders. Probably a better return than what Stuart would bring...but in no way would I ever prefer to trade those two instead of just Stuart. -
Assuming the following moves are made: RE-SIGNED F Marian Hossa $6m cap hit F Johan Franzen $3.9m cap hit F Jiri Hudler $1.8m cap hit F Ville Leino $1m cap hit F Tomas Kopecky $575k cap hit TRADED AWAY FOR PICKS/PROSPECTS F Valtteri Filppula $3m cap hit D Brad Stuart $3.75m cap hit LEFT AS UFA F Mikael Samuelsson D Chris Chelios G Ty Conklin PROMOTED TO FULL TIME F Leino F Darren Helm $599,444 cap hit D Jonathan Ericsson $900k cap hit G Jimmy Howard $716,667 cap hit If this situation occurs, then Franzen and Hossa can be retained. The Wings would be running on a 21-man roster with Meech serving as the only spare, and it could only occur if Stuart was willing to be traded. If Stuart and Cleary both are willing to waive NTCs, then the Wings have some cap space, as well as being able to perhaps bring back a decent, cheap roster player.

Kipper's is a similar save on the other side, except his body was closer to the location of the save when Wellwood shot, so he had a better idea of what Wellwood was going to do. He was also covering much more of the net when he made the save (had Wellwood shot on pretty much anywhere in the lower right quadrant of the net, it hits Kipper because he was already moving back towards the net to reset his position. Joey Mac had closed his fivehole because Hudler fooled the Isles defense and goaltender into thinking he was shooting by putting a slap-pass right onto the tape of Sammy's stick. Joey Mac was frozen for a moment and had to dive from the edge of the crease in a down position and grab the puck out of the air as if he were a shortstop diving across second base. The chances of success were exponentially lower; not only did MacDonald have to make the right grab with his glove, if Samuelsson's shot had been going elsewhere, it wasn't going to hit another part of his body. Kiprusoff got Wellwood's shot with his stick, but there was a good chance that if Wellwood had shot elsewhere it's still a save.

Why do people think trading JUST Filppula allows for Franzen at $4 and Hossa at $6-7? The kind of math that allows that to be true is so wrong it's insane. Flip, Stuart, and more would have to be dealt or let go as free agents to make room for those contracts.
-
He turns 30 at the end of December, and has just had his first 30 goal season. He's very clutch, this is true. But he's NOT a perennial 30-40 goal guy, he's a BAD skater, he's inconsistent defensively, and without a doubt he is one of the worst playmakers in the league playing more than ten minutes per game. $4m per year for Franzen at his age, given the contract length and the fact he is INCREDIBLY injury prone, is probably fair value on the open market. But if he were taking a hometown discount as had been rumored and hoped, he would be making less than $3m per year.
-
$3.9m for 11 years? That's about $1m-$1.5m too much.
-
If Franzen's deal is for about $4m...say goodbye to Filppula and either Stuart or Samuelsson+Hudler+possibly Leino unless Hossa is not returning, unless Hossa takes a VERY cheap deal.
-
Niklas Kronwall is pretty amazing...he apparently passed the puck from the point to himself to make that pass to Samuelsson. A little recognition for the amazing playmaking of Jiri Hudler, anyone?
-
Franzen deal done better mean under $3m. He's not worth $4m right now, so a 10-year deal close to that at his age is INSANE. I know I am in the minority with all the Franzen fanboys here, but that's the truth. If the deal is more than 5 years, he better be $2.5m-$3m per year cap hit.

Wings win 8-1, Hossa, Dats, Z, and Hudler 2 each. All that gets talked about is no free Arby's and how the Wings gave up that damn goal to the Preds.

Osgood has won 57% of his starts on average during his career. He's over 60% this season. If he plays 5 seasons, he needs to average 33 wins, so he needs to start 58 games per season or more for 5 seasons. If he plays 4 seasons, he needs to average 41 wins. so he needs to start 72+ games per season for 4 seasons. If Osgood is given the chance to play that much for that long and is winning that much, he'll stick around as long as possible. As far as the Hall...he's about to hit 400 wins. If he comes back next season, which he is under contract for, and if he gets the 11 or fewer wins he would need to reach 400...then he is an absolute lock for the Hall. There is no way a 400-win goaltender with multiple Cup wins is kept out of the Hall. It just won't happen.

If you count the 1994-95 season as .57 seasons, then Osgood is currently averaging 26.7 wins per season. If he wins one or two more this season and finishes at 390 or 391, that increases to 26.8 wins per season, given mathematical rounding to tenths. Regardless, rounded off to a whole number, he would have 27 wins on a complete season. So let's see where Osgood places if he wins 27 games per season (which would be one more win this season, btw) every season for each remaining season in his career. We'll also assume he wins 27 this season, finishing the year with 390 career wins. Six season were mentioned? I'd love to see that at even his current average. I'll show you why below: One season: 417 wins, 8th place. Two seasons: 444 wins, 6th place. Three seasons: 471 wins, 4th or 5th place (pending Curtis Joseph's remaining career) Four seasons: 498 wins, 3rd place. Five seasons: 525 wins, 3rd place. Six seasons: 552 wins, 2nd place. EDIT:

Who Should be on the 3rd Defensive Pairing in the Playoffs?
eva unit zero replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
Here's how I have it laid out. Lidstrom Rafalski Kronwall Stuart Ericsson Lilja Chelios Meech Lebda Meech is ahead of Lebda because he's better offensively, and while Lebs might have a slight edge defensively, but while Lebda has the experience, Meech seems to be the better decision maker. I don't want Lebda's decisions anywhere near the playoffs unless he's the last man. -
I have seen probably ten goals or more this year, including goals by Franzen and Ovechkin, more beautiful than all of the goals displayed there except Hagman's. Terrible choices.
-
I expect Ericsson on the second pair next season given the chemistry he has displayed with Kronwall and the fact that moving Stuart is the most logical move as far as the Wings retaining the most depth on their roster. The only problem is convincing Stuart to take the move.
-
One more win makes Osgood tenth and Hasek 11th, rather than Osgood and Hasek tenth. He needs fourteen more to tie for ninth, as of this posting, if my memory is correct.

How exactly is Crosby one of the five most valuable players in the league when Malkin is more valuable to Pittsburgh? Most valuable player and Best player are NOT THE SAME. Crosby is lucky if he's in the top 15 Most Valuable players.

I'm just a shade under 5'10". I also have managed to bump my weight up to 136. Still nowhere near THE GOAL, but getting back up there.

Cammi Granato was a better player than Tony Granato, and Tony Granato had a fairly successful NHL career. I would think Cammi would have been able to succeed at the NHL level as well.
-
The first two should be America's Cammi Granato and Canada's Angela James. Granato: Greatest women's hockey player ever; she was actually a better player than her brother and could have been a top-six forward in the NHL easily if women were allowed at the time. Granato set all-time records of 54 goals and 96 points in her 54 Olympic and World Championship games. James: James was the first real star in women's hockey. Canadian James led Canada to domination of the early women's hockey tournaments and was the star that players like Hayley Wickenheiser and Cassie Campbell idolized. James performed on a level that matched Granato, but only played 20 games, retiring much sooner.

He was headed for Nash from the blueline, even before Nash had gotten the puck. His hit on Nash was arguably late. He wasn't headed to join the play in the first place, and he hit Nash after Nash dumped the puck off. That's a CLEAR charge. It would have been a charge had Nash delivered it to Oshie, too.
-
This post still doesn't mean Oshie didn't charge Nash. Sorry.
-
And I see any Blues lineup that featured Red Berenson as better.
-
I would take out Lebda and put in Chelios or Meech. Lebda is the worst defenseman under contract who will be healthy for the opener. Hell, I'd take Kindl, Pyett, or Kolosov over Lebda.
