    Cherry to Join ESPN

Cherry is popular in Canada not for his hockey knowledge. He is popular for his espousal of the 'Canadian' style of hockey. In the early 90s he picked Doug Gilmour as the best player in the world that season, a statement that has not been true for even a single day, let alone an entire season, and his long standing nationalistic bias; If you ask Cherry, all English Canadians are tough gritty guys and great leaders like Wendel Clark, while all Europeans are prissy little finesse players who play only for themselves, much like Alexei Yashin. French Canadians typically fall under the Euro banner as selfish and prissy, unless they play for a 'tough' English Canadian team or have done service for the national team and done well. His routine, while extremely popular in Ontario and Western Canada, is not dissimilar to a columnist for Ann Arbor-based Car & Driver magazine saying nobody should buy Asian sedans for not having enough top-end torque, nor European coupes for not having enough cargo space. Neither statement is true about the entire group, nor is it typically the primary factor in the decisions being made involving those types of vehicles.

Salary Cap Figures - Next Seasons Max/Min

Glad to see we don't have anyone complaining 'the lockout was a failure omgz!' just because the cap number is up, and maybe people are starting to realize that the cap continuously going up means the league is doing WELL, not badly.

    Is Sidney Crosby a diver?

I must be a rare breed then...I've only ever bitched at a ref once, when he called a penalty on me because the other team's coach said I punched his guy. Now I did, but the ref didn't SEE it...so he shouldn't have called it. That penalty constituted exactly half of my career penalty minutes. The other half being a tripping call when a jackass stomped on my blade (and broke it) and ended up flat on his ass from doing so.

    Is Sidney Crosby a diver?

The answer can be found in the differences in how the penalties are called. As you can see, a spear is an automatic double-minor penalty just for the attempt. For a spear that actually connects, the spearing player is mandated to receive a MAJOR penalty AND a game misconduct. An injury will result in an ADDITIONAL match penalty. With slashing, it is typically a two-minute minor, and there is some discretion allowed in whether the slash was aggressive or incidental. In other words, attempting to slash usually will result in no penalty, while attempting to spear will result in a minimum of four minutes. Successfully slashing will usually be two minutes, while most successful spears will be a major penalty and game misconduct. The most severe slashes will see a major and a game, or a match penalty. The most severe spears will see a major and a game, AND a match penalty. Put simply? The penalties for spearing are far more severe, so drawing attention to the spear at the risk of a two-minute penalty for diving is a worthwhile gamble for a player willing to dive.

Why does Fedorov wear nr 29...

Is that what happened to Igor? He fell in with the Russian mob and crossed someone he shouldn't have?

Best moment of the year so far? Ozzie and the Wings sweeping the Avs.

Did Osgood pick on Drew Sharp in grade school?

I was probably harsher on Dom than anyone else regarding the 2002 Cup run. And I never once said he 'wasn't a factor' like you claim. I stated he was not the PRIMARY factor in that win, and was probably not one of the team's five most valuable players in that run. This, as I have said, was due more to the fact that the team's top players were all playing their best; Lidstrom and Chelios were 1-2 in Norris voting and both played their best of the season during the playoffs. Yzerman, Fedorov, Shanahan, and Hull were amazing. And that said, Hasek got QUITE a lot of mention for the Conn Smythe. Realistically, it was due more to the numbers (OMGZ he has six shutouts!! MVP!!!) and the fact that Osgood's ability has been underappreciated in general (Wings won the Cup in Hasek's first year, so obviously he was the cause right?) than due to realistic merit, as Hasek MIGHT have been the fifth most valuable player in that run. But to suggest Ozzie is not one of the three most valuable player to the Wings in this run as some have? That's ridiculous. Osgood has been absolutely lights out, and has provided clutch goaltending and key saves when they have been needed. Given the first four games of the postseason, nobody can claim 'Osgood only is winning because a shooter-tutor would be good enough' like you and many others have claimed regarding the 1998 Cup run, despite the FACT that the 98 team was the worst of the three recent Cups in terms of skaters.

2008 Playoff Picks Game: Round 2

If only you had picked a Wings sweep, you'd already have locked up 16 points, with another 14-16 coming if SJ and Pit close it out.

GDT - Philadelphia at Montreal Game 5

Because he was rumored to be minitues away from being a Canadien when he left the Sabres after 07, and it never happened. You know..it would be like Wings fans booing Jeremy Roenick or Mark Messier for signing elsewhere when they were free agents the Wings courted. Completely ridiculous.

    Sedin's Futures

The Sedins are a solid pair of players. However, they aren't good enough to justify the kind of back bending Vancouver does to keep them happy. Further evidence against one Mr. Brian Burke's padded resume, IMO. If Vancouver can ship off the Sedins for two forwards who are of equal potential and current skill level to Henrik and Daniel, they would be wise to do so given the movement restrictions and linemate requirements the Sedins impose. That said, what are the chances the Nucks will be able to ship off the twins AND receive comparable players in return? Vancouver is in pretty bad shape; the Sedins are not elite caliber players but have managed to force the Nucks to give them elite player treatment and first line salaries...and then they have Luongo in net, who yes is a great goalie, but ultimately they would be better off with a GOOD goalie and a great DEFENSE. Ah..defense...yet ANOTHER area where the Canucks have overpaid second-tier players who had one good year. They do have Mattias Ohlund, whose injury this season had a HUGE effect on their success (read: caused them to miss the postseason) but other than that, they have a massively underachieving team paid for much more than they produce.

    Getting The Shakes!

I want to see Dallas and San Jose play nothing but triple-overtime games until the end of their series. I want to see one of them barely squeak by, having thrown all of their energy into the second round series with nothing left for the third. That said, it's likely to end quicker than that.

Game 4 blowout to lure Brunnstrom?

Brendan Morrison's point totals in Vancouver was a reasonable upgrade based on age and experience over his performance as a Devil. Realistically, Morrison is the guy who gained the least from that line being put together, largely because he was the only one of the trio who ever played defense. Bertuzzi is the guy who gained the most, as he never even came close to that kind of dominance without the other two. Morrison was always a good two-way center, before, during, and after.

    Congrats to Joe Sakic

Sakic passing Yzerman has more to do with the fact that Sakic spent less time doing it alone. Not saying he's not great, but Yzerman was pretty much the only guy on the team for the first eight years of his career. Eight years in, Sakic had a Stanley Cup worthy supporting cast.

Wings won't let Stuart get away

Stuart has outplayed Chelios, Lebda, and Lilja. He has been outperformed by Lidstrom, Kronwall, and Rafalski. In other words, he's been our #4 defenseman, just as he should be.

Versus just repeated a common misconception. The 7-0 drubbing in 2002 was NOT Roy's last NHL game...maybe they just forgot his 35-win season in 2002-03?

    Datsyuk's Personality Emerges

Typically, bashing a popular player and having your information wrong will result in nobody believing you. Not saying it didn't happen, I wasn't there. But nobody believes you, the same as if I had claimed to own a game worn Kris Draper 91-92 throwback jersey. As such a thing doesn't exist, I cannot own one. See how that works? When you can be disproven, you will be.

Avs "fans" to desecrate Wings jerseys?

There's a very simple answer to that. Any unwanted contact can legally be considered assault. If you are forced to defend yourself because of someone assaulting you, you cannot be held legally responsible. I am not advocating this, but I have to imagine that if Avs fans followed the suggestion and permanently damaged the personal property of others, and there was a violent result, that this radio station could ultimately be held partially responsible as the Wings have played many games in Denver with no kind of violent outbursts.

    Zetterberg is Sasha?!?

"Sasha" is probably a play off of "Zata" to make it rhyme with "Pasha." Either that, or Homer has been watching the Russian videos again...
