Those are the five Big Ten schools with Division I varsity hockey programs.

Brett Hull is an American citizen by birth. No player in the NHL currently was born a 'Russian' citizen. There are 27 Russian-born players in the NHL. There are others from former Soviet countries.

No. Sakic was and is great..but Yzerman was better. Yzerman was good enough to be the best player in the league over a full season when Mario and Wayne were in their primes.

The GAA leaders Hasek's first season (91-92) were: Patrick Roy 2.36 Ed Belfour 2.70 Kirk McLean 2.74 John Vanbiesbrouck 2.85 Bob Essensa 2.88 Curtis Joseph 3.01 Mike Richter 3.11 Chris Terreri 3.18 Tim Cheveldae 3.20 Mark Fitzpatrick 3.20 Don Beaupre 3.20 You'll notice that 3.99 is not on that list. Neither, for that matter, are Moog or Fuhr. Hasek did finish the season with a 2.60 GAA, but he was also 27 at season's end.

The Wings went 2 for 8 on the PP. That's a pretty good showing, and definitely not 'unable to score on the PP' The Wings won't be dumping Dom...even if he doesn't play well enough to start, it would be so late in the season that all a buyout would do is prevent the ability to play him. He could play this poorly through the end of the year and he'll be o nthe roster. If he does continue to play poorly, however, he'll be seeing fewer and fewer games as the season goes on.

I'd like to see a hockey game at Los Angeles Coliseum. Make it happen, NHL!

This situation can't really be compared to the Jones, Downie, or Boulerice hits, and here's why: With Downie and Boulerice, it was a blatant cheap shot on an unsuspecting victim from players with histories of such. With Jones, it was a hit from behind on a routine play. Two games wasn't enough, but it wasn't far off either. With Ohlund, Koivu had literally just hit him in the head with a flying elbow. Ohlund's slash was not abnormal; you see that kind of love tap all the time with nothing more than a two minute minor. I think he probably deserved to be suspended, but those who are suggesting that Campbell (or Bettman) has suddenly gone soft because of this are off their rocker; it's not eve nremotely comparable to a couple of blatant hits to the head. Most importantly; Ohlund was not TRYING to break Koivu's leg. He was sending the message of 'don't do that again' and either through adrenaline or weak bone structure, Ohlund applied enough force to break Koivu's leg. Actual injury does not always signify intent to injure.

Offical Lloyd Carr retirement thread

Once. Michigan went to the Rose Bowl in 2007 when OSU was destroyed by Florida in the title game. In 2003, OSU went to the title game, but Oklahoma played Washington State in the Rose Bowl with Big Ten co-champ Iowa sent to the Orange Bowl and Michigan beating Florida in the Outback bowl. This is the only instance under the BCS where the Rose Bowl chose to deny the Big Ten a conference bid. Iowa was ranked above Oklahoma in all three polls yet the Rose Bowl chose to snub them in favor of Oklahoma. It was also yet another season in recent memory the downtrodden Big Ten finished with three top-nine teams in the final AP poll (OSU, Iowa, and Michigan that year, and OSU, Michigan, and Wisconsin last season). -
Hasek is only the second best goalie to wear a Wings jersey when his ENTIRE career is taken into account. That's sort of the same as saying that Terry Sawchuk is the best Rangers, Kings, Bruins and Leafs goaltender ever. Being a shadow of your former self and happening to lace up for a team doesn't mean all of your career accomplishments can be attributed to your 'rank' with that team. As far as the second best Wings goaltender ever? You're right, he does play for Detroit right now...but his name is Chris Osgood.

Alternate universe Detroit is Ann Arbor?

Offical Lloyd Carr retirement thread
eva unit zero replied to RockyMountainWingGal's topic in Other Sports
It's not misleading. I stated that a primary goal of the program was to play in the Rose Bowl Game, and Carr's teams did that four times out of what will be nine or ten selections for Big Ten teams. But if you prefer, Carr won or shared 5 Big Ten championships in his first ten seasons. Ohio State and Northwestern each managed three in that time period, and Iowa and Wisconsin each managed the feat twice. Purdue and Illinois would each produce a single conference title in that timespan. Yes, Carr's teams haven't ben able to beat OSU recently. But then again, OSU hasn't lost many games to ANYBODY the past three seasons. Since the start of the 2005 season, OSU has lost 4 games. Texas (national champions 2006), Penn State (Big Ten Co-champions 2005), Florida (national champions 2007), and Illinois. Illinois is the only team that didn't themselves finish the season with one loss. As much as I hate to admit it, OSU has been phenomenal the past few seasons. -
Another great college back who had injury problems and was considered quite a possible bust due to health: Adrian Peterson. Perry, OTOH, was quite durable in college. There are no guarantees that a guy will or won't have injury issues in the NFL if he did or didn't in college.

I'd rather lose in the Rose Bowl than win in the Capital One bowl. Lloyd has taken the Wolverines to the Rose Bowl four times in thirteen seasons. During Carr's tenure, OSU has gone twice (including this year), Wisconsin has gone twice, Purdue, Northwestern. That means Carr's Michigan teams have 40% of the Big Ten selections, assuming OSU goes to the Rose this year. If OSU backs into the title game, and Illinois doesn't by some miracle end up in the Rose Bowl, Carr ends up with 45% of Big Ten selections. That's pretty damn good for a program whose primary goal for most of that time was 'Go to the Rose Bowl' Lloyd Carr did provide a new style of ball. His three four-year quarterbacks; Henne, Navarre, and Brady; absolutely DESTROYED the previous passing records. If you look at the Michigan record books for quarterbacks, those guys have written their names all over it. Bo-ball was basically what we saw from OSU; rush the ball almost every play. Except with Bo, it was not about trusting your QB (Tressel trusted Boeckman on Sunday about as much as Carr trusted Mallett, which is very little), it was just the way things were done. I don't expect either Kelly or Miles, honestly. -
So you think Hart will break his leg like Perry did?

There are not 29, or 28. According to NHL.com's stats page, there are 27 Russians who have played an NHL game this season: F: Ovechkin, Malkin, Kovalchuk, Datsyuk, Frolov, Kovalev, Radulov, S.Kozlov, Fedorov, V.Kozlov, Afinogenov, Brylin, Samsonov, Tolpeko, Semin D: Gonchar, Zubov, A.Markov, Tyutin, Volchenko, Semenov, Zyuzin, Grebeshkov, Kalinin, Kondratiev G: Khabibulin, Bryzgalov Saprykin is the guy you guys both missed; he's playing in Russia this season also.

He could never score though; Jesus would always make the save.

Nick Saban compares Bama loss to 9/11, Pearl Harbor
eva unit zero replied to timothy1997's topic in Other Sports
All he had to do was say 'App State' and '8 game win streak' and he could have related it not only to something from college football, but something from this season. But then again, that would have required Saban being half as good a coach as Lloyd Carr is. -

He's going to anounce he's coming back, and then Babcock will announce Jiri will be playing with Lidstrom and Rafalski will be playing with Kronwall. -
How can McFadden be a favorite and Hart not be in the discussion? they both have 12 TDs, similar averages per carry and per game, and both Michigan and Arkansas ended up unranked. If one is in, the other is. If one is out, so is the other.

And is there some rule saying that the majority cannot also be factually inaccurate?
-
It's called an analogy. But since you have decided to be dense today, let me spell it out: 'Jeff Gordon is the greatest NASCAR driver ever, and this means he's the greatest race car driver ever.' 'Jeff Gordon may be great at NASCAR, but Fred Glover was great in the AHL. Being the greatest to participate in your level of your sport doesn't make you better than those who excelled in a higher level of your sport.'

That is mathematically incorrect. Quick question...what's the first day of the year? January 1st? Not January 0th? What's the numerical designation for January? One you say, not zero? A decade counts from the beginning of the first year until the end of the tenth. The numerical year is the number of years that will have passed since an arbitrary counting point. The first decade would have ended with the tenth year, which would have been the year 10, as that is how many years would have passed at its completion. Therefore, every decade that followed would also have ended in a multiple of 10, including 100, 500, 1000, and 2000. If the NHL wants to count decades differently, why don't they count from 97-98 to 06-07, thus making this year the first season of a new decade, and last decade Cupless for the Canadiens?
-
This year is 2007 AD. Meaning that at the end of this year, exactly 2007 years will have passed since an arbitrary counting point loosely associated with the birth of Jesus. If our ages were counted the same way, we WOULD be born at the age of 1. Or alternatively, it would currently be the year 2006, as we would not have completed 2007 years from our arbitrary counting point yet.
-
When counting, we count from 1 to 10, not zero to 9. Therefore, the year ending in 1 begins the new 'set' of tens, hundreds, thousands, whatever. Otherwise, if you count backwards, you end up having to include the year 1 B.C. in the first decade A.D...which is incorrect.
