I think it's gotta be Tebow; You don't usually see a guy get much Heisman consideration if he has health issues or his team finishes the season unranked. Dixon is out for the rest of the year, and McFadden and Hart have been in and out of games, and both of their teams are looking at the top 25 from the outside. Who else can they really give it to?

Because more than half of his incompletions were his top two receivers dropping what should have been an easy catch? IIRC, Manningham dropped seven and Arrington five...If you don't count those attempts against Henne, he's 11 for 22. That's 50%. Still not great, but given that Mallett came in a few times to spell Henne because of his shoulder, that's pretty good. And nobody ever claimed Michigan dominated MSU, did they?

The thread title does not say 'NASCAR' does it? I was simply making a statement aboutthe validity of the claim that saying Gordon was the greatest NASCAR driver ever is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT thing from being able to claim he is the greatest race car driver. Thusly, my point that 'greatest NASCAR driver' and 'greatest race car driver' are not the same title, is NOT a thread derail. To further expand on my previous point, here is Jeff Gordon's AHL counterpart: Fred Glover, the greatest AHLer ever

How about a Wilson Hawks jersey to a Sharks game? Or a Hull Blues jersey to a Stars game?

I didn't think that this would be a championship team
eva unit zero replied to Rob the Badger's topic in General
This is the most ignorant attitude ever. "Our farm club is doing X, which guarantees our big club will do X in a few years." This was the attitude used to say 'The Wings are fine now, but they'll be terrible in a few years" all through the 90s, because the A-Wings didn't win a playoff round in their final five seasons. The 1999 Adirondack team's most accomplish players to play 15 or more games were Petr Klima and Doug Houda, both of whom were ENDING their careers. Of prospects playing that much, the only ones to ever earn a regular spot in the NHL would be Darryl Laplante, Shane Hnidy, Jesse Wallin, Yan Golubovsky, and Maxim Kuznetsov. Hnidy is the only one still playing. If you projected the Wings' success based only on their AHL team, the Wings would be the worst team in the league. The 98 team featured Laplante, Kuznetsov, Golubovsky, as well as leading scorer Stacy Roest, goaltender Norm Maracle, and Tampa Bay prospect Pavel Kubina--the only player from either season of A-Wings to establish himself as more than a depth player at the NHL level. -
Arguing over the greatest NASCAR driver ever reminds me of another excellent question. Who is the greatest AHL player ever?

Technically, the decade goes from 2001-2010.

Of players in the top 50 in scoring, the following is a list of players who have scored better than a point per game, plus others below that mark who are mentioned in this thread: Joe Sakic, 1.20 - LOCK Steve Yzerman 1.16 - LOCK Brett Hull 1.10 - LOCK Teemu Selanne 1.09 - Excellent scorer, classy player. Should get in. Bernie Nicholls 1.07 - Should get in, but probably won't. Adam Oates 1.06 - Perhaps the best playmaker not named Gretzky; Should get in. Pierre Turgeon 1.03 - Too one dimensional, was never an 'elite' center. Won't get in. Mats Sundin 1.01 - Among the best centers for a decade, dominant offense and responsible defense. Should get in. Mark Recchi 1.00 - Quietly one of the most effective scoring machines of the past 20 years. Mike Modano 0.99 - Highest scoring American ever; he's a lock just for that. Jeremy Roenick 0.93 - 500 goals, 1200 points, but rarely was he a 'top' player. Brendan Shanahan 0.91 - 600+ goals, most dominating PF of his time. Should get in. How one could say no to Sundin and yes to Peter Forsberg and Rod Brind'Amour is baffling.

Offical Lloyd Carr retirement thread
eva unit zero replied to RockyMountainWingGal's topic in Other Sports
This is exactly why I've always liked Carr. While winning was important, and something he did often, it was more important for the players to be responsible, stand-up PEOPLE on and off the field. It's also hard when you have a guy whose Big Ten winning percentage is better than any coach of any other Big Ten school ever, yet he gets slammed for 'not winning enough' like his teams win 6 games every year. -
I thought the game was pretty close...it should have been 14-10, if not for perhaps the most blatant, and yet most intelligent pass interference penalty ever taken. Henne played well. His numbers don't show it, but Manninghamd and Arrington dropped about a dozen very well thrown balls between them, several of which were good for first downs. I have to say, though...had the weather been dry, it would have been a different game for two reasons: Michigan would not have had nearly as many dropped balls, and Mike Hart wouldn't have slipped and aggravated his ankle in the first quarter; if you recall, Brandon Minor's missed block on the next play killed the Wolverines' scoring drive, forcing them to kick a FG rather than score a TD. Ultimately, Hart's injury was the biggest thing; OSU had success because they were able to run the ball, thereby avoiding the issue of dropped passes. OSU risked nothing in the air; the Buckeyes completed exactly one pass that was more than ten yards, and I don't recall any other attempts at such. Michigan had no rushing option with Hart ailing and Minor being Minor. So they had to try to pass, and while the receivers often were able to beat the defense, they couldn't catch the ball.

Does Melrose have a house in Beverly Hills?

Yeah, but otherwise i have to say something along the lines of 'Kutch you are a moron Ozzie only scored one goal but he still roxxorz to the maxxorz!' and that would just get messy.

He scored a goal for Medicine Hat in a game against Swift Current, and he scored a goal for Detroit against Hartford. Geoff Sanderson chased down both shots.

Ducks could trade Schneids if Neidermeyer returns
eva unit zero replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Burke trades Schneider to bring Niedermayer back, and he never signs another UFA. -
Remember when Igor Larionov gave Steve Smith a weak one-handed tap in the back of the leg and broke it? Apparently, if you hit just right and/or a number of other factors come into play...you don't have to hit hard at all.
-
It's called an example. He wasn't the 7th best goalie that season, or any other. And more importantly, that season he wasn't even CLOSE. Some goalies get Vezina votes when their stats don't warrant it...some don't get Vezina votes when they DO have the stats.
-
I don't understand why Burke would be in such a rush to get rid of him. He's a good goalie who doesn't cost that much. Also...if Burke is placing him on waivers rather than accept a deal he doesn't like...that is stupid. I don't believe that no teams were willing to offer ANYTHING for Bryzgalov...perhaps simply no teams Burke was willing to trade to.
-
It means that if a player is claimed on waivers, and more than one team put in waiver claims for him, he cannot be traded until he first is offered to all other teams that made a claim. This means that if Phoenix and Atlanta both put in a claim for Bryzgalov, and then Phoenix is interested in trading Bryz...they must first offer him to Atlanta for nothing, and Atlanta must refuse. It basically prevents the use of the waiver wire to pick up a player just to trade him. However, if no other teams make a claim, the player can be traded as normal.

Salo placed with guys who had MUCH better stats. That means that despite the fact he faced fewer shots and gave up more goals than those guys, he was considered by the voting group to be at the same level as those guys. He clearly was not.

No; you were just acting like 'at the ten game mark the projection looked like this, well now we're 50 games in and that's not the case' when if Zetterberg scores six points over the next three games (which is not unrealistic) he's right back on pace for 130 points. I'll also take this opportunity to point out to you that I wasn't saying 'Z is in the lead now, he's gonna wi nthe Art Ross' and that any statement I made about Z's finish was prefaced with an 'if he keeps this up' or something of the sort. That's the key; I may use projections, but I don't present them as if they are guaranteed to be the actual result.

Because Balsillie refused to enter into a binding agreement or actually put up any money.

I would make that trade. Meech is one of a stable full of of potential defensemen. The problem is that we already have Kronwall and Lebda ahed of him on the roster, and Kindl, Ericsson, Quincey, Smith, Pyett waiting in the Wings. Meech is the most expendable guy in that group. If we can deal an expendable prospect and a 30-year old with one 20-goal season for a top end young player like Carter, we should do it. Carter's career high in goals is hiher than Cleary's, he's scored more in the past two seasons, and he's a quick skater who is also 6-4, 200 with a respectable defensive game. If you can get a guy like Carter without giving up anything important, you DO it.

Tommy Salo was overrated. A good example of this is the 2000-01 season. Salo posted a 2.46 GAA and .904 save percentage in 2000-01. That compares to Chris Osgood's 2.69 and .903. As we all know, Osgood's play that season was generally considered pretty bad. Yet Salo, whose stats are not significantly better, finished 7th in Vezina voting with 7 points. Curtis Joseph posted a .913 and 2.39, and he was 8th with 4 points. Sean Burke posted a .922 and 2.27, and was 6th with 12 points.

As a child, I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. I am also epileptic. From my understanding of the two disorders, my behavior patterns an unusual type of focus on certain areas of interest as well as a sort of social isolationism fro mthe Aperger's. My brain also functions at a different rate than normal due to the epilepsy. It's an interesting combination...with some unfortunate downsides, but some nice upsides.
