Hudler was second star of the game...so you might be alone in that assessment.

    Drake vs. Perry

Drake wins...Perry is disqualified for sucker punching while Drake was removing his helment and for failure to remove his own.

    Hockeytown is DEAD

Wow, the Wings had attendance of 17600 for one game, and Hockeytown is dead? Hmm, let's see...even if they average that for the rest of the season, that still put them in the top half of the league. And one thing Sharp fails to take into consideration? The Michigan economy sucks, AND taxes were just raised. For the average two-parent household with two kids, living on one income making $25,000 a year, the tax increase works out to about $70. Hmm...what else could have been purchased for that $70?

    Roster complete

I am surprised to see Downey on the roster. That said, I think Downey on the Wings has more to do with Grigs not beating out one of the regulars that it does with Downey vs Grigs; the team would rather have Grigs play because they are still confident he can be the top 6 winger they want him to be once he adjusts.

    w00t! Rangers sue the NHL

From the NHL's copyright policy... That right there seems to suggest that the NHL ultimately owns the copyright to the names and logos. Which, in turn, gives it every right to control websites and merchandising by the teams. Want another example of this sort of thing? The Cleveland Browns. If the copyright was the property of the team, there would be no Cleveland Browns right now; they'd be something else because Baltimore would still own the name.

    Wings a second tier club

Just for reference... Bowman never impacted Melrose's chances of being coach in Detroit. Melrose coached Adirondack from 89-90 to 91-92, winning the Calder Cup in 1992. His performance there earned him a job with Los Angeles, where he would lead the Kings to the Cup Finals in his first season. Bowman was hired as the Wings coach the next season, while Bryan Murray would take off that hat and become full-time GM for one season before being fired. Bowman's first season as Coach/GM in Detroit was also Melrose's last season as an NHL coach.

    Nice red wing article

False. The skill level of the average NHL 4th liner is the highest it's been in 40 years. More teams doesn't mean diluted talent pool when the talent pool is expanding more rapidly than the league, as is the case with the NHL. If we assume a couple things; being that Canadian hockey is at the same level now as it was in 1987, and that the proportions of American and European players to Canadians stays the same as you go into lower leagues...then that means there are almost 800 players who are good enough to have been considered NHL-level based on the 21-team league in 1987, based on the reduction of Canadian NHL players from about 425 to about 385 despite the increase from about 450 to about 700 total NHL players...as you can see, almost 100 NHL-caliber guys are now left out. For the talent level to have been diluted, that would mean Canadian hockey has declined considerably; if it is to be assumed that the talent level would be the same as 1987 if 9 teams were removed, that would mean there would only be about 250 Canadians in the NHL, meaning a HUGE decline in Canadian hockey.

    20 games for Downie

McAmmond was watching the play at the net...it's not like he was staring at the puck between his skates and got leveled...he didn't have the puck and was looking where it was. Downie lanuched himself elbow first into McAmmond's head...an intentional head shot that was all about retaliation. 20 games sounds right for what Downie did....unfortunately the league has issued some weak suspensions in the past that you guys are now citing as 'precedent.'

    McAmmond hurt bad/Concussed

Yeah, because if Moore had just fought someone on the Canucks it wouldn't have happened? You know, other than going toe to toe with Matt Cooke earlier that game? Oh, and three guys piling on your lower back does not break your NECK. Moore's neck was broken when Bertuzzi drove his head into the ice.

    Dandenault may hit Waiver Wire

I wouldn't be stunned to see Dandenault stay on the Montreal roster as he is a better player than Murray, Lapierre, or Kostopoulos, and he could fill the void left by Johnson's apparent departure. He costs too much for the role he would play in Detroit, which is 7th defenseman or 14th forward.

    Who Am I?

Joe Juneau is correct. He played with former RPI alum Adam Oates in Boston and Washington. He also set the NHL records for assists by a rookie and assists by a left winger in the 92-93 season at 70, beating out Kevin Stevens' record of 69 established the previous season. Juneau's records still stand. So close, yet so far. NEXT UP: I played the fewest career games of any player ever traded for Wayne Gretzky. I played in the NHL before playing in the AHL. Born in Quebec, I didn't play for a team based in my home province until the end of my playing career. Who Am I?

Who's going to score the first goal?

When I saw this, my first thought was 'But Yzerman's retired.' As for prediction..Hudler.
  15. eva unit zero

    Rolston's Days in Minny Over?

If it's goal production you're worried about, Filppula would be the better to trade...he may never hit 30; Hudler will clear 30 several times in his career.
  16. Gordie Howe's best scoring season in his first 22 years of major pro hockey was 95 points. In his final nine seasons, four in the NHL and five in the WHA, he beat that mark five times, including a career high 103 points, and broke 50 assists for the first time in his career in 68-69 with the Wings. Was Howe using performance enhancing drugs to extend his top-level career? I just have issue with the arument that a guy's perfomance proves he cheated, especially when it has always been the case that players can have good or bad years at any point in their careers.

    Meech's fate; other prospects

The thing is, Meech may not be the best available defenseman... but the Wings brass feels that he will be good enough down the line that he' worth keeping. A couple years down the road, would you rather have Kronwall, Kindl, Quincey, Ericsson as young NHL-ready defensemen in the system, or those four plus Meech? I think the answer is obvious, so you do what you can to reach that answer without hurting the team.

    McAmmond hurt bad/Concussed

Downie was NOT still on the ice when he hit McAmmond...he jumped at him. He led with his forearm/elbow. And the fact that it was a late hit makes a HUGE difference. Clark hit the puck carrier. Downie did not.

    Who Am I?

    It's not Esposito.
  21. eva unit zero

    McAmmond hurt bad/Concussed

Hmm...the looks more like a flying elbow to the head that blindsides McAmmond, while Clark's hit on Bell was a shoulder from the front that ell saw but couldn't avoid. Yes, Clark left his feet during the hit, but that is the only similarity at all. Downie hit McAmmond after McAmmond had passed the puck in front. McAmmond was watching the play and had no reason to expect a flying elbow to the head. Bell, on the other hand, was the puck carrier and had not passed it, nor was he trying to, when Clark hit him. Clark's hit was a solid, clean check while Downie's was a horrible cheap shot. EDIT: Oh, and BTW...it could have been called boarding or charging. But either way, there was clear intent to injure and therefore Downie should have received a match penalty.

    Who Am I?

Next one... I played for a school more famous for producing scientists than hockey players. In my first full year in the league, I set an NHL record that still stands today. I played with a fellow alumni on my first NHL team, and then again on my second NHL team. Who Am I?

    Who Am I?

Bobby Hull is correct. His last NHL game was played as teammates with childhood idol Gordie Howe playing for Hartford in 1980, and was alos Howe's final NHL game.

    Sopel staying as 8th defenseman?

Ok, so we are dressing Malts bu playing him on Draper's line. And Downey is taking Malts' spot on the fourth line with, assumedly, Drake and Kopecky. So who sits? Well, if Maltby's on Draper's line, that means it's Filppula or Cleary sitting. Do you SERIOUSLY feel that Downey helps the team more than Flip or Cleary? If so, please perform a cranial-rectal extraction before further posting.
