I have to disagree. I think Beauchemin is overrated big time because the majority of his time has been spent with Niedermayer and Pronger the past couple seasons. Here's what Beauchemin's TSN scouting report looked like when the Ducks acquired him: Beauchemin started playing with Niedermayer right away, and what happened? He scored points at a rate he hadn't seen SINCE JUNIORS. I think Beauchemin has a noticable drop off without Scott this season.

I would argue that the difference between Larry Brown and Flip Saunders was the difference between winning the championship one year and going to the finals the next, and not even winning the conference after that. More specifically, Brown's ability to utilize Ben Wallace to his maximum ability, something Saunders just couldn't do.

Hmm...I saw a quote with that coach saying he still thought they had a damn good team. And besides...Michigan would have been higher than 10 on a vote assuming they beat App State.

Turgeon always seemed to be joining the team that recently won a Cup, but never managed to do it himself...

If we're looking at kids, how about one.

Michigan won't lose to Oregon. I expect Michigan to be a team out for revenge...The Oregon game will have a score the App State game should have had.

University of Michigan - The upset - The future

I have to rephrase...it was that Michigan had been dropped to 3rd by two coaches or 4th by one coach, and no doubt dropped to 2 by some simply because of Osborne's retirement. It's the same kind of shenanigans that were going on a few years back, when coaches were downgrading Oklahoma's opponents in hopes of putting Auburn in the BCS game. -

Nebraska had to come from behind to tie Missouri with seconds left when one of their receivers kicked the ball and another caught it. A comparable situation? Say the Pistons are down by two points with seconds to go. Wallace tries to shoot, but his shot is blocked by an opposing player. However, when the shot is blocked, it bounces off a teammate and into the hoop, tying the game as time expires. That's the kind of freak play that saved Nebraska's undefeated season. It's like a few years ago, it wouldn't have felt right for Michigan to be the National Champions when they had the lucky kick against Wisconsin, where the punted ball bounced into the returner's leg, and was recovered near the goal line by the Wolverines allowing them to score for the win as time ran out. Michigan had no such close calls in 1997. -

Nebraska won the coaches poll because Michigan didn't just drop to #2 on ballots...they dropped to #6 on some. Nebraska won the coaches poll, compared with Michigan winning the AP, FWAA, and NFF championships. -

1997 is also the only time a team ranked #1 in both polls going into the bowls won their bowl game and did not win a consensus championship. In fact, some voters dropped the Wolverines from 1st to as low as 6th. Conveniently, Nebraska coach Tom Osborne also just happened to be retiring after that season. Hmm. Interesting. And the next year, they put in a system designed to prevent situations like that... Yep, Nebraska definitely was considered to deserve to be the Co-champion in 1997... -
...but still got more votes in both polls than the Spartans did...

It's not silly...I was trying to talk NN out of building a time machine and going back and trading Stevie for Daigle!! That's serious!!

Supplements like that are worse for you than doing nothing. Give it up if you plan to be healthy.

Cranky today, NN?

What are you talking about..Ramage and Wamsley were KEY to the 89 Cup...

The difference being: The Pens were largely rookies and journeymen, aside from the handful of guys with real experience who didn't retire midseason, being Recchi, Gonchar, and Leclair. Gonchar has never been a leader type, and Recchi and Leclair were both veterans nearing the end of their careers. Crosby is the cornerstone of the franchise, and due the the overall inexperience on the roster, he was one of the guys the team looked to. Lidstrom wasn't in that capacity in his first few years because the Wings had more veterans like those I mentioned.

Yeah, Nick should have been the captain as a rookie, over an established leader like Yzerman, who had been captain for five seasons already at that point. Or over guys like Gallant, Probert, Chiasson, McCrimmon, Burr? It wasn't until the mid 90s when Nick even got an A, and that's a result of older vets leaving and him coming into his own.

Langfeld was signed for the AHL..the Preds already have 14 forwards signed. The Preds still need to sign someone who makes at least 1.2m in order to clear the cap floor, because they are 700k below with 23 players under contract all being counted.

Hamrlik > Souray.
-
Because Bell is suspended, not injured. Chistov and others who have signed in Russia while under contract are the same thing.
-
So much for retirement.
