I've always liked the black Philly jerseys. I've also generally thought Philly was one of the few teams that should be allowed to 'get away' with black because it's ALWAYS been one of their colors, as opposed to other teams that have incorporated black as a new color later on like the Flames and Sabres.

Malkin is 6-3, 195. Grigorenko is 5-10, 220.

Recchi resigned last summer after having won the Cup with Carolina as a rental player, who had been traded there by? Pittsburgh. Recchi has been a Pen for much of his career; his situation there is like Selanne signing with Anaheim or Weight signing with St. Louis last summer.

Based on points per game, Anaheim's top six forwards are McDonald, Kunitz, Bertuzzi, Getzlaf, Perry, and Marchant. This compares to Detroit's Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Holmstrom, Samuelsson, Cleary, and Franzen. Total PPG for each unit? Anaheim 4.08 PPG, Detroit 4.49 PPG. Even if you replace Cleary with Hudler to get an accurate representation of who will be on the top two lines, Detroit still scores the win with a 4.26 PPG from the top six.

Jiri Fischer ring a bell? How about Pronger or Chara? They're all that big (or bigger) and better than Kindl. Kindl is probably one of the six best defensemen in the organization right now, but he'll play this year in Grand Rapids so he can play top pairing instead of third pairing. Kindl may see some time on NHL ice this year, he may not. But he's got a pretty solid chance of playing in the top four for 08-09.

I hated Bertuzzi more than Forsberg when Bert was a Wing, so...

Should Sergei Fedorov's number be retired in the future?
eva unit zero replied to Chaldean's topic in General
A good comparison for Draper is a guy like Stephane Yelle in Colorado or Sami Pahlsson in Anaheim. Certainly had a positive effect and a key role on championship teams, but someone who was not irreplaceable and definitely not a guy who would ever have his number retired. -
They are not related, but jokingly call each other 'cousin' due to the common misconception that they are. They have played in the same league (often multiple leagues for both) every season since 1996 except for 2004-05, when Brad played in France and Andrew did not play, and 2005-06 when Brad played for the AHL affiliates of Phoenix and New Jersey.

Should Sergei Fedorov's number be retired in the future?
eva unit zero replied to Chaldean's topic in General
Fedorov's number being retired with Columbus is not a far fetched idea, given situations like Bourque in Colorado, or the fact that Ken Daneyko's #3 hangs in New Jersey. Fedorov was a better defenseman for the Jackets last year than daneyko ever was in his career, so it's entirely possible his 91 could hang there. -
I was all for the skate logo that was recolored in blue and green and posted somewhere on this board a while back. It was easily the best looking variation of any Canuck logo suggested, other than perhaps the 'Johnny Orca w/Flying Skate and Rink' amalgam that was posted recently.

nhlnumbers.com is not factoring Ryan in...with Ryan (and Niedermayer), the Ducks have 12 forwards, 8 D, and 2 goalies for about 50.8m, or about 500k over the cap. Todd Marchant waived and replaced with a minimum salary plugger anyone?

Z played many games on the wing with Lang at the beginning of the season. He also was playing on the Wing with Dats the first half of December. He moved to center at the end of the month. My ranking of Z is based on how well he played while at center. That's not a what if.

Didn't Deader retire a few years back because of concussions?

In his 2005-06 season with the leafs, he scored 21 points in 66 games and 792:23 at ES. Compared to Jarome Iginla that same season, who scored 33 ES points in 82 games and 1103:13. Allison's scoring rate per minute played results in 29 points over Iginla's ice time. Allison and Iginla are both pretty crappy defensively...so is Iginla useless at even strength also? Add to that the fact that Allison's 39 PP points, projects over Iginla's minutes to 46, meaning a total of 75 points. Now, you might say 'well you can't project differences in minutes' except that Allison's actual per-game projection over 82 games works out to 26 ESP and 48 PPP, which totals 74 points. Pretty damn good numbers for someone who is useless.

I only listed notable guys, meaning guys who still have something to give, or have been lusted for on here this summer. McCarty, as much as we all love him, is pretty much a washed up fourth liner.

Zetterberg's remarkable streak from December on were the majority of the games this season he played at center, and most of the streak was at center. During that time, he was scoring more than anyone in the league. That sort of throws the 'his numbers would slip at center' argument out the window. Zetterberg scored 13 goals and 9 assists in 35 games playing on the wing. After that, he moved to center and scored 20 goals and 26 assists in 28 games before getting hurt. So projecting Z's stats at center over the 63 games he played, it works out to 45 goals, 59 assists, and 104 points in 63 games. Over 80 games, it would be 57-74-131, enough to win the Richard and the Art Ross by a healthy margin. How you can say Z WOULDN'T have had a damn good shot at the scoring title given time at center all season with guys like Alfredsson and Spezza is mind-boggling.

They all were around at least one more season. Primeau was traded for Shanahan at the beginning of Bertuzzi's second season in the league. McCarty joined the team in 93-94. That's still two power forwards who were on the team and doing well when Bertuzzi came into the league. Bertuzzi also would likely have been playing on the third line, so he wouldn't have been scoring anywhere near a point per game. As I stated before he only ever exceeded .75 PPG when on the first line with Naslund and Morrison.
-
The Wings in 1993 had several gritty physical forwards. Probert, Primeau, Burr were on the team, and McCarty would join the following season. Shanahan (the most dominant power forward in the game) would join the team a year after Bertuzzi entered the league. Also, Bertuzzi was a 40-50 point scorer until he played big minutes with Naslund. The only seasons Bertuzzi has scored at .75 PPG or better are years he played with Naslund.

Zetterberg from December until his injury was the BEST player in the league. Heatley played all season with Alfredsson and Spezza, and Zetterberg was FAR better OFFENSIVELY when he had Dats and Homer. If Zetterberg had Alfredsson and Spezza all season, and stayed healthy, he'd have freaking won the Ross, Pearson, and Selke.

This should have been on the list:

Nothing homeristic about saying Nick Lidstrom is the best player in the league. Name me a player in the NHL right now that has a bigger positive impact on the game every night than Lidstrom. You can't; he doesn't exist.

Here's a listing of teams and who still needs to add players, what positions/how many, and how much cap space those teams have. Numbers and rosters are from www.nhlnumbers.com, and any players who are expected to be on the roster but not included in their cap figure have been included in calculations. Numbers in parentheses are players needed at forward, defense, and goaltender, as based on number of players but not quality. I will list players as 'needed' up to a roster of 13/7/2, however if a team has an extra forward, defenseman, or goaltender listed as on the roster, he will be included in the cap figure. Teams with full rosters that are above the minimum payroll and beneath the cap are in bold. Phoenix (4/1/0) $20.502m* Nashville (0/0/0) $16.946m* Washington (2/2/0) $14.869m San Jose (2/1/0) $14.201m Columbus (0/0/0) $10.363m NY Islanders (0/0/0) $9.197m Pittsburgh (1/0/0) $9.122m Atlanta (2/1/0) $8.959m Florida (3/0/0) $7.681 Tampa Bay (0/2/0) $7.625m Colorado (1/1/0) $6.659m Los Angeles (2/0/0) $6.251m Anaheim (1/1/0) $6.204m Dallas (0/1/0) $5.619m St.Louis (1/1/0) $5.497m Buffalo (1/0/0) $5.169m Edmonton (2/0/0) $5.156m Montreal (1/0/0) $4.917m New Jersey (1/0/0) $4.908m Calgary (1/0/0) $4.545m Ottawa (2/0/0) $4.47m Carolina (0/0/0) $4.467m Minnesota (1/0/0) $3.848m Detroit (0/0/0) $3.657m Vancouver (1/0/0) $3.095m Boston (1/1/0) $2.736m Toronto (0/0/0) $1.774m Chicago (0/0/0) $1.718m Philadelphia (2/0/0) $1.33m NY Rangers (2/0/0) $1.309m *- Teams with more than 16m available are beneath the minimum payroll and need to add salary. Total players still needed (34/10/0) Notable free agents still available: Forwards Peter Forsberg Tony Amonte Jason Allison Jeff O'Neill Peter Bondra Eric Lindros Jeff Friesen Anson Carter Ville Niemenen Mike Johnson Nils Ekman Ronald Petrovicky Jan Bulis Adam Hall Defensemen Danny Markov Janne Niinimaa Bryan Berard David Tanabe Dan McGillis Brent Sopel Ossi Vaananen Goaltenders Robert Esche Mike Dunham Curtis Joseph

So what do Staal, Nash, Cheechoo, Parise do to get on this list? None of them is particularly good defensively, none were top 50 as far as points per game is concerned. Hell, Elias was 50th in the league as far as PPG, and he's getting ranked like a superstar. I don't get the method they are using here.

Lou, do your bones break when you go down stairs? Because you know, oxalates in chocolate will bond with the calcium in milk and thereby reduce the calcium absorption into the body.
