There's one of those taking over for Vick in Atlanta.

Roger Maris had an asterisk because of the number of games in a season. That asterisk was generally considered an injustice. You must remember that the record Parent held and Brodeur broke is most wins in a season, not best winning percentage. That's a different record altogether.

Whether Feds is healthy or not isn't the point...Even as much as the one injury plagued him last year, he still was among the top 180 forwards in the NHL, even though he was on the blueline to finish the season. Which was the point of my post.

Last season for Fedorov went in three stages: Stage 1: Healthy and playing center, Oct 23-Jan 6th Stage 2: Playing below 100%, playing center, Jan 16th-Mar 10th Stage 3: Playing below 100%, playing defense, Mar14th-end of season For purposes of determining whether Fedorov is still a first line center, we'll examine his numbers during Stage 1. He played 36 games, scoring 13 goals and 15 assists. Double that, and you get almost the amount of games Fedorov actually played, with 26 goals and 30 assists for 56 points. 30th in center scoring was defensively deficient Scott Gomez with 13 goals and 60 points in 72 games. Can you SERIOUSLY suggest that Gomez' 4 point advantage makes up for Fedorov's IMMENSE advantage defensively? Hell, I would argue that the 17-22-39 in 60 games (projects to 20-26-46 over 72 games) makes Fedorov a better center than Gomez, even having played 24 of those 60 games nursing injury. Figure that's about 30% extra production. Consider that Henrik Zetterberg scored 68 in 63, which projects to 89 over 82 games. Add 30%, and you get to 116 points. Now, if you assume physical play is basically even as with Gomez v. Fedorov, would you want Zetterberg, Thornton, or Lecavalier? Zetterberg is the pretty obvious answer. So yes, Fedorov is still a first-line caliber center. And even if he's not...he's a top end second line center...which last I checked means he's still easily a top six forward.

The way the rule worked was initially that any part of the player in the crease disallowed the goal. THAT WAS CHANGED MIDSEASON, due to the fact a large number of goals were being disallowed because of when the puck carrier entered the crease; notably breakaway goals. An amendment was made that the skate could be in the crease so long as the player whose skate was in the crease entered legally, acquired possession while the puck was in the crease, and maintained possession. Hull went into the crease after the puck, gathered the puck in the crease, and drew it back to shoot (the picture you see that is linked). Yes, it's true he did pivot while drawing the puck back, but the fact remains that he was in the crease legally. Good goal.

If the NFL ever allows Michael Vick back on the playing field, it will destroy pretty much any credibility they have as far as their programs for developing character. That said, Vick likely will be in prison when he reaches the age where one would normally retire. The maximum term, from what I've read, totals up to six years. That would put him in his mid-30s and having been out of the game for six years. Vick's career is done if he's convicted, and I don't see much chance of him playing for very long if not, either.

The fact that this one is included destroys the credibility of the list: People forget something about the juding that year. There were NINE judges. Removing the French judge does NOT give the Canadians the gold and the Russians the silver, as they then are TIED. That was the official outcome. How can it be a tainted accomplishment because of a bought vote that DIDN'T COUNT!!! That's like if someone scores eight goals in a game, but the eighth was offsides and shouldn't have counted, and the calling their record tainted. They would STILL be the record holder without the eighth goal!

Yeah, by acquiring all those key players like Bertuzzi, Naslund, Joavonvski, Ohlund, Aucoin in Vancouver? The player in Vancouver who had the most impact and was acquired by Burke was DAN CLOUTIER. As for Anaheim...the only key on last year's Ducks team were acquired by Burke; Niedermayer, Pronger, Beauchemin, and Marchant. Niedermayer had already decided to come to Anaheim BEFORE BURKE WAS GM. Acquiring Pronger, Beauchemin, and Marchant meant losing, in trades or due to cap issues, Fedorov, Lupul, Smid, Salei, Carney, and Vishnevski. I think I would rather the second group, wouldn't you?

Never denied it.

Watch for the Islanders to trade for him, and then sign Andy Hilbert...

Now they're the New York Bootlanders!

What cheating goes on in the NHL, according to Sports Illustrated
eva unit zero replied to CenterIce's topic in General
Garth Snow had legal oversized equipment, because he's 6'3" and 200lb. Most goalies are closer to Ozzie or Vernon in stature. -
According to their overall ranking, Jiri Hudler is the second best center in the league, behind Datsyuk, and the top two defensemen are Tom Preissing and Christoph Schubert. The top five is rounded out by Sami Salo, Chris Pronger, and RORY FITZPATRICK!!! Their defensive rating would have awarded the Selke to Perezhogin, with Kobasew and Hudler as the other finalists.

TH's adjusted points system is the most reliable cross-season comparison tool I've ever seen....it's basically a mathematic formula that compares the scoring pace (goals and assists) of an individual season against the NHL's historical average, and adjusts the player's season totals by that ratio. It's far from conclusive, but with the up and down scoring across the league's history, it's as good a comparison tool as straight points.

Balsillie group accuses Bettman of forcing Preds to break off talks
eva unit zero replied to edicius's topic in General
You act as if Hamilton is more deserving than Nashville, and that the BoG is committing a crime against the natural order by NOT approving the move before the binding agreement. What you seem to be forgetting is that there is a lease currently in place in Nashville; the BoG CAN'T approve a move before this current season without facing legal repercussions. They could approve a move if Nashville fails to reach 14,000 paid attendance this year, but as that hasn't happened yet, there is nothing the BoG could do to give Balsillie assurances about a move. -
Yzerman with 155, not Lemieux with 199, won the Pearson that season. That would suggest that Yzerman's 88-89 season would beat any season from Gretzky below 200 points by the mere fact that Lemieux was better all-around than Gretzky. When you then consider that Lemieux's 199 points was equivalent to Gretzky's 212 when you consider the differing levels of offense between the early and late 90s; using Total Hockey's adjusted points system, both seasons work out as 154 APts. As I said...Yzerman's 88-89 season has a plenty strong argument as the best single season ever. Doesn't make him the best player ever--Brian Leetch scored 100 points, but is not one of the five best offensive defensemen ever.

Balsillie group accuses Bettman of forcing Preds to break off talks
eva unit zero replied to edicius's topic in General
One major flaw in that article. It says the arena lease and season ticket deposits were intended to level the playing field with Kansas City, but the KC bid wasn't even in play until after the letter of intent expired. Oh, and the fact that Balsillie wasn't willing to sign a binding agreement. Bettman didn't HAVE to put the kibosh on Balsillie; The BoG couldn't approve the sale if Balsillie never signed a binding agreement, and Balsillie wasn't willing to sign one unless he had approval to move the team. Nothing to do with Bettman. -
And yet, what was possibly the most impressive single season ever was put up by Yzerman, when he scored 155 points and was a Selke candidate.

Remember Jamie Mclennen Calgarys stick swingin backup

And Bertuzzi is closer to McSorley than he is to McLennan. -
My vote goes to: (180n-360)/n

The difference being that McLennan was a well liked guy who didn't have a rep as a dirty player when the incident in question happened, while the other two were already well known as dirty players. -
Balsillie group accuses Bettman of forcing Preds to break off talks
eva unit zero replied to edicius's topic in General
You really don't get how it works, do you? First of all, the Florida teams were already there when Bettman took over. Second of all, a point I have detailed MANY times: Bettman's only influence on expansion was input regarding the bids placed for the most recent four teams. The eleven expansion bids that time around included Atlanta, Nashville, Columbus, Minnesota, Portland, Houston (had four separate bids), Hamilton, and Oklahoma City. Hamilton's refusal to consider an arena other than the dilapidated Copps Coliseum was a major factor in their rejection by the BoG. Portland was viewed as a potential threat to a Vancouver team that was struggling with attendance at the time. This leaves Atlanta, Nashville, Columbus, Minnesota, Houston, and Oklahoma City. Houston is out because Dallas was still establishing their presence; they would win the Cup the next year and solidify their fan base, but that had yet to happen. So one more of Atlanta, Nashville, Columbus, Minnesota, and Oklahoma City must be gone. OKC is the pretty obvious choice of that group. But my ultimate point is: Atlanta, Nashville, Columbus, and Minnesota got teams over Winnipeg because THEY PLACED A BID. Winnipeg never placed an expansion bid, and nobody has ever considered moving their team to Winnipeg. It's not a situation where Bettman unilaterally decides "Ok Caps, you're moving to Winnipeg." That is a decision that must be made by the team's owner and approved by the BoG. Bettman actually has very little power over that sort of thing. -
That's just not true.

What are you talking about? Didn't you see the contract Ryan Smyth signed with Edmonton for whatever Edmonton could afford? I mean, the discount Smyth took was far beyond that anything that greedy Hasek would consider...the gall of a Vezina contender to demand more than a few hundred thousand dollars! Wait...you say Smyth was traded by the Oilers because he wanted an extra 500k, and Hasek signed for 3m below his market value? Well.....ummm...EUROS ARE TEH SUCK!!!!!
