Iginla is nice to the fans for one simple reason: He was raised by an American.
-
You mean like 2004 when the Flames ran Joseph repeatedly?
-
He was referring to the fact that they can't get any tail because there is no chick who would ever consider hooking up with a flamer with a gap in his teeth.
-
Every player should know how to properly block a shot, even if they aren't the guy out there doing it. I don't want to see Datsyuk blocking a shot if there is another option, but a guy with my playing history hasto appreciate that he does do it--being a the best shot blocker around is what got me on my college team in the first place.

I thought Kopecky was significantly more effective than Maltby during the regular season. That, and Maltby's line played primarily against the Flames' SECOND line of Huselius/Langkow/Lombardi. Zetterberg's line matched up against Iginla's line most of the night.
-
I've always thought he sounded uncomfortable doing hockey, and was ne of the better baseball announcers around. He has pretty extensive knowledge of the game, which he does not have when it comes to hockey.
-
Or Drake, for that matter. Drake has cheapshotted now and then, but he's nowhere near guys like Claude or Tootoo--he's always been a mostly clean heavy hitter and defensive specialst.
-
If Kopecky were 100% and in game shape, I would sit Sammy and Maltby, and use the following lineup: Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Holmstrom Calder/Lang/Bertuzzi Hudler/Filppula/Franzen Cleary/Draper/Kopecky

Sarich makes 1.9m right now as an RFA. He'll get at least 2.7m as a UFA. Disregarding that, reconcile the fact that the cap is expected to be at 47.5 million, and you need to drop 636k to be there.
-
Politically dissatisifed much?
-
Lilja has played well. Sammy has not. Hard to argue sitting a defenseman who has played well in favor of a forward who has not so that another forward can dress. Especially when teams often dress SEVEN defensemen in the playoffs.

You mean the Cleaves/Richardson thing? Albom spoke to the players during the week before the Saturday game, and both said they intended to be there. Albom had to submit his article for the SUNDAY newspaper on FRIDAY, meaning he had to take them at their word. His mistake was simply using the verb tense of 'sat' rather than an awkward 'will have sat', which was caught by one copy editor when the syndicated column ran. Hardly a malicious error.

Skip the games, just have shootouts during the regular season. Use that to decide who is playoff worthy.
-
Having more big guys who hit doesn't make yo ua tougher team. Toughness is the ability to impose your will on the game regardless of the opponent's physical force. Example: Last night, even though Iginla was gooning it up something fierce, Datsyuk was the tougher player. That's the thing--toughness is not about hitting. It's about playing effectively regardless of the opposing hitters.

The Wings' lines for game 1 were: Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Holmstrom Calder/Lang/Samuelsson Cleary/Draper/Maltby Hudler/Filppula/Franzen Calder/Lang/Samuelsson was the worst unit of the four. It's also where Bertuzzi would normally play. Swap out Sammy for Bert, and keep everything else the same. It doesn't get much simpler.

What you are failing to consider is the fact that even while the strike was going on, the work was still being done by other Knight-Ridder employees from other papers, and the Free Press was surviving just fine. The paper was NOT feeling under any sort of crunch, and they were not going to cave to the union whose workers provided nothing better than the scabs who worked the paper during the strike. While I respect the union mentality and the necessity for unions historically, you have to remember than ultimately, you must consider yourself first before the union. If following the union's decision is not the best decision for you personally, you shouldn't be bound to that decision.
-
You clearly don't mean toughness as in 'ability to impose your will on the play' so you must mean 'big strong physical players.' Comparison of guys who are 'physical' and are regulars. Flames have: Phaneuf, Regehr, Warrener, Iginla, Primeau, Conroy Wings have: Bertuzzi, Lilja, Franzen, Schneider, Chelios, Calder, Maltby, Holmstrom I would hardly say the Flames own us as far as toughness is concerned. In bold are players who were not on the Wings the last time these two teams played.

Boy are you dense. Albom refers to Filppula twice. Once referring the his goal, and saying Flip was a new kid. This is true--this is his first full season in the bigs. The other time is as a response to Yzerman's 'diversity' comment, saying 'when was the last time the Wings had a 'Filppula'. This refers to the fact Filppula is the only Finn to ever play for the Red Wings. But yes, this makes ALBOM the one who knows nothing.

This is one place Jiri Fischer is missed. He'd definitely be available to pound Iggy...
-
Holding his own vs Moen.

Well, if we're judging by their performance tonight: Four Wings were on the ice for zero goals for tonight. Dan Cleary, Kris Draper, Danny Markov, and Mikael Samuelsson. Exactly one of those players is not on this team for his defensive prowess. Sit Sammy. If we're judging by performance during the regular season.... Sit Sammy by a large margin.

Jesus plays goal. Would Playfair sit Kiprusoff for him? And on the subject if Stuart, etc. mailing it in....I bribed them with my FedEx discount...they shipped overnight!

I've heard people refer to Crosby as magic, but time travel? [/font] Are we to believe when Crosby was penalized at the end of the third, it actually caused him to not be able to return to the beginning of the third and prevent a goal?
