Hudler is the only Wing scoring better than .13 goals who doesn't get better than 14 minutes a game; Hudler does it in under 9. If you adjust Hudler's 8:28 to the aforementioned 14 minutes--meaning he is still seeing less ice than anyone else above that mark--he would be at .31 GPG, better than Datsyuk and in fourth place on the team. At that rate, he would have 15 goals in 48 games (compare with Datsyuk's 15 in 51), and if he had played all 54, that would be 17 goals, good for sole possession of third place on the team. And that doesn't even take into account that Hudler is the most effective PP scorer we have when you consider time--Multiply by 3.5, and you get 7 goals in 4:05, compared with Holmstrom's team-leading 7 in 4:14, with three extra games, or Zetterberg's 6 in 4:05, with six extra games. Hudler should be getting at the very least top-nine ice time. As it stands, in even strength ice time per game, Hudler is not even top twelve among forwards, and is only top nine among forwards for PP ice. The lines should be Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Holmstrom Hudler/Lang/Cleary Franzen/Filppula/Williams Maltby/Draper/Langfeld When healthy, lines 3 and 4: Kopecky/Filppula/Samuelsson Maltby/Draper/Franzen

If Crosby gets 100 assists, nobody can ever say he doesn't have anyone to play with.
-
I would rather Lilja than Hatcher....Lilja is only slightly overpaid to be the 7th defenseman..Hatcher would be grossly overpaid for that job.

No, it wasn't.. What his francophone comment did was show just how much of a selfish prick he was. Yes, Gauthier hit Roenick. Roenick is now out of LA, and was never very good while he was there. On the contrary, the two greatest LA Kings in the history of the franchise were--you guessed it--visor wearing francophones. That Avery would make such a comment as a King is indicative of his appreciation for his team and teammates.

Datsyuk has yet to show he is capable of effective play in the postseason. Whether that changes in the future, it's true now and that fact must be considered.

Does this mean I shoot from the wrong side? :-/

Any chance that a good portion of the households that do get MSG were tuned into the Isles/Sabres game on FSN NY instead? Think about it. MSG is a regional network that serves the greater NYC area. This means you will probably get Rangers fans, Devils fans, Islanders fans, or Sabres fans. Rangers fans would be more likely to watch an Isles/Sabres game than a Devils/Panthers game. The only group likely to watch the Devils game is the Devils fans. While 736 seems like a small number, it's a much larger percentage of the viewing population as it is not a national broadcast. I would like to see the ratings for the Islanders game before passing judgement as 'the NHL is doomed because nobody tuned in to see two of the least popular NHL teams play when two other New York market teams were playing EACH OTHER.

Take the current roster, and remove anyone over 30. The following is that list, as well as projected playing level. Forwards: 1st line Zetterberg Datsyuk 2nd line Cleary Filppula Hudler Williams Kopecky 3rd line Franzen Defense: Top four Kronwall Bottom three Lebda That means we need to fill that out with, at minimum, 1 first liner, 3 fourth liners (or better), a 13th forward (or better) three top-four defensemen, two bottom-three defensemen (or better), a starting goalie, and a backup goalie (or better). From that top-ten list for those roles we have Emmerton, Grigorenko, Mursak, Abdelkader, Helm, Kindl, Ericsson, Quincey, Meech, and Howard. Rated as they were in that article, it gives us 3 first liners, 7 second liners, and 3 3rd liners at forward; Four top-four defensemen, 2 bottom-three defensemen, and a starting goaltender. Leaving the only 'needs' as a seventh defenseman and a backup goalie--which can be Logan Pyett and Stefan Liv, if you stick to the prospects list.

How is Cal Ripken Jr. being discussed as a possible unanimous entry to the Hall of Fame when Alan Trammell has yet to get in? Trammell was a better average hitter who struck out less and fielded better than Ripken...other than stay healthy, what the heck did Ripken do so much better than Tram?

Kuznetsov is out of the league. Tambellini (the first rounder) was traded (with Denis Grebeshkov) for Mark Parrish and Brent Sopel. The second rounder went to Boston before the draft, IIRC. Parrish left as a free agent shortly after his arrival. So basically it works like this: Kings traded Schneider and Grebeshkov for Avery and Sopel. Grebeshkov/Sopel is basically a wash....so Kings pretty much traded Schneider for Avery.

The ratings culprit is not the channel. It's the fact that many viewers who would normally tune in to the All-Star game did not because of WHEN it was on, and more importantly, what else was on in competition with it. A weekend event is better, but even a Friday night game--when there are no big-ticket events to compete with--would have drawn in more ratings. I have to believe, also, that the ridiculous Youngstars game affected viewership as well. My solution: An All-star tournament. One team from each division, seeded by total division record. All-Star week would be scheduled as such: Monday: 6 p.m. EST: Game A; East #2 vs East #3 9 p.m. EST: Game B;West #2 vs West #3 Tuesday: 6 p.m. EST: NHL All-Star Skills Competition Wednesday 6 p.m. EST: Game C; East #1 vs Winner A 9 p.m. EST: Game D; West #1 vs Winner B Thursday: Youngstars game...but a REAL game. None of this 7 forwards, 4-on-4, short periods crap. Make it a real game with full 12-6-2 rosters showcasing the league's young talent, and include players who have been named to the big boys team (No Crosby or Ovechkin in this year's game was a baaad move) Friday 6 p.m. EST: Game E; Loser C vs Loser D 9 p.m. EST: Game F; Winner C vs Winner D If we're having the All-Star game on a weekday, THAT is how it should be done. It gives people a team to root for, and no team doesn't have one of the 20 best players in the division.

It should be me--I'd run Transcontintental every down cause that play is teh bom!1!1!1!!

Take away all of those wins, and Michigan has over 730 wins--only 8 teams have as many or more. Take away all the comparable level opponents for those teams, and Michigan is still well in front of the others.

Does the name Tomas Kopecky ring any bells? The same was said of him in the A.
-
His head is not in his ass...it's in his books. Abdelkader's chances of making the Wings are slim for the next couple of seasons anyway...he's better off staying in school as long as possible and getting an education.
-
He's already shown flashes of that kind of ability...five years is a long time to develop when you're as good and young as Pitkanen.
-
If we can get Pitkanen without having to give up Kronwall or Zetterberg, that needs to happen. Pitkanen in five years will be as dominant as Pronger physically and defensively, but with a better offensive game and some quickness in the skates.

Did you WATCH the halftime show last year? Jagger's talent must have missed the flight--because it was certainly not on stage during halftime. Prince is about two or three steps up from the Stones if that's what you get from the Stones nowadays.

Florida was the only SEC team to beat a Big Ten team this year. The Big Ten has three teams in the top 10. I would argue that alone makes them better than the one-team Pac-10. The Big Ten won 3 of those games. Experts had Tennessee and Arky winning in blowouts...Hardly 'uneven' in the Big Ten's favor if you consider the Big Ten won two they were supposed to lose big.
-
I wasn't saying Tram was better. I was saying Cal wasn't THAT much better that he should be a near-unanimous selection while Tram doesn't even make it. But I agree with Blak that Ozzie Smith over Tram is worse.
-
Especially when the weak schedule argument was used to show why Florida was mroe deserving than Michigan. After the final regular season game, Florida did play the hardest schedule in the nation, this is true. Guess what else? Michigan had the third hardest schedule.
-
The SEC's worst team would beat the Big Ten's best team...everybody knows that. What I find amusing: Big Ten went 3-1 vs the SEC this year. Florida was put in the championship game for two reasons: 1) because they had "quality wins over LSU, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Georgia" while Michigan's "only quality wins came against Notre Dame and Ohio State" Consider the following: Michigan beat Wisconsin, who beat Arkansas. Michigan beat Penn State, who beat Tennessee That would seem to suggest that Michigan's wins over Wisky and PSU were at least as good as Arkansas and Tennessee. 2) Because they had one more win than Michigan. Never mind that the extra win was a team from a lower DIVISION of football, and that same team
