Hw took the Caps to the Finals against the Wings? Who beat him at the other end? Oh yeah...Chris Osgood. You can't bring up 98 and use it as a reason Kolzig is better than Osgood or anyone you claim is better than Osgood....that's downright crazy. EDIT: Also, former Blues goaltender Brent Johnson has outplayed Kolzig thus far on the same Caps team...and nobody would say Johnson is anything but a journeyman.

I know a great deal of Michigan fans who root for MSU when not playing them.... Of course, the big difference is that Michigan is MSU's main rival, while MSU is third behind OSU and Notre Dame on Michigan's list....
-
If Rutgers loses to WV, and OSU and UM are both undefeated going into the final week, there is only one good answer... UM vs OSU in the title game.
-
Most of Lilja's million in cap space. Plus, it would open up the 7th d-man spot--which could be used to keep Norton on the roster for all the grit slappies.
-
The only starters with worse numbers than Kolzig this season: Lundqvist, Theodore, Thomas, Cloutier, Joseph. That's offset by the following backups with 5+ appearances that have better numbers: Emery, Nabokov, Garon, Aebischer, Hedberg, Budaj, Dunham, Holmqvist. That means Kolzig has been playing worse than 24 starters, and at least eight backups..making him at best the 33rd best goalie in the league this season. In other words...mediocre.

I would rather Jonsson played the time in GR and Norton were #7. Jonsson has potential and it would be a shame to waste him when he could develop.
-
Alex Smart scored 3 goals in his first NHL game. That was no more a guarantee of his career potential than Latendresse's big game. Simply a showing of what could happen on a good night with a bit of luck and opportunity.
-
And his stat line coming into the game was 13 GP, 0-0-0, 8 shots, and 23 hits. You seem to be suggesting that the one game is indiciative of how he is going to play every night this season...I remind you he is still pretty raw and has a ways to go.

Mine, using HF's scale. Says so in the first post in the thread.

I said please.....

Thought I'd throw a little revision on these with the new season, and add in some guys. Last year's ratings are in parenthesis. Franzen, Tolsa, Lebda, MacIntyre, and Kronwall have been removed as Franzen, Lebda and Kronwall completed a year in the NHL and Tolsa and Mac are no longer Wings prospects. Forwards: Igor Grigorenko (8.5B) 8.5C Jiri Hudler (8.0B) 8.0B Valtteri Filppula (7.5B) 8.0B Evan McGrath (8.0C) 8.0C Tomas Kopecky (7.5C) 7.5B Justin Abdelkader (7.5B) 7.5B Cory Emmerton (NR) 7.5C Jan Mursak (NR) 7.5C Johan Ryno (NR) 7.0C Matt Ellis (6.0B) 6.0C Darryl Bootland (6.0B) 6.0C Defensemen: Jakub Kindl (8.0B) 8.0B Kyle Quincey (7.5B) 7.5B Sergei Kolosov (NR) 7.0C Derek Meech (6.0B) 6.0C Goaltenders: Jimmy Howard (8.0B) 8.0B Stefan Liv (8.0C) 8.0C Joey Macdonald (7.0B) 7.0B

It's more impressive that he's fifth in league scoring, and the highest scoring player already drafted. Cory Emmerton is 7th, also. And if a mod would please merge this with the existing Mursak thread?

If Michigan beats OSU and the game is close, I could see OSU retaining second place. Especially if Rutgers beats Lousiville. If Michigan beats OSU and the game is close, I could see OSU retaining second place. Especially if Rutgers beats Lousiville.

Yeah, because Forsberg is such a difference maker he'll offset whatever Nashville sends back? Judging by the value exchange in the Witt trade, Nashville would be willing to ship them Kariya and Sullivan for Forsberg.
-
Lilja, despite all the bashing he takes on here, actually seems to have built a decent rep around the league from his play last season. [/font] He could probably get us a second or third round pick or a moderate prospect.

New coach, new teammates, new system in Boston.

When did I compare Latendresse's stats with Abdelkader? As for a comparison of their skill... What does Abdelkader do that Latendresse does not? Abdelkader can skate well, play defense well, and works hard. He can play all three forward positions well. What does Latendresse do that Abdelkader does not? Good question. Latendresse played a couple games with Plekanec and Kovalev on the second line. Huds and Kopecky have yet to get that opportunity. Not to mention that, yes, he has comparable ice time per game to Huds and Kopecky at the time of my post, he had played FIFTY PERCENT MORE and had yet to score. In fact, Hudler has already scored again (8 GP, 2-0-2), and while Kopecky (8 GP, 1-0-1)hasn't scored again, he's been a physical presence and has been getting chances. Latendresse has yet to score a point in ten games.

Mark Bell 9 GP, 4-1-5, 11 PIM WITH Thornton. Glen Murray 9 GP, 4-3-7, 6 PIM, WITHOUT Thornton. THIS SEASON. Also...Murray posted over 50 points last year, something Bell has NEVER done, and is not on pace to do this year. Murray, on the other hand, is on pace for another 60+ point season.
-
I already commented on that he wasn't eligible.
-
Murray can play both wings. If th Sharks made this trade Murray probably plays with Thornton, just because of past success with that combination. Bell would be moved to the third line with Brown and Grier. Of course, while we're thinking about trading Nabokov for one of Thornton's former winger.... Mike Knuble anyone? Esche is a joke, Niitymaki is still young....A deal centered by Nabokov for Knuble is probably more likely than a Murray deal.
-
And that is sad. Neither WV nor Louisville is in the same league as UM and OSU...those two are easily the top two teams. That said....if a one-loss team is ranked 3rd going into UM/OSU....there is a very real chance you could see a rematch in the title game.
-
Monroe had no chance on that hit...he played the angle perfectly and even diving only got the tip of his glove on it...if his glove were an inch longer, he catches the ball. It also didn't help that the anything above the waist was being called a ball. Half of Zumaya's 'balls' were high strikes.
-
Mark Bell is better than Glen Murray? Mark Bell's career high in goals is 25, a number Murray has cleared five times. Mark Bell's career high in points is 48, a number Murray has cleared six times, including a 92 point season. Mark Bell this season, playing with Joe Thornton, has scored LESS than Glen Murray this season, playing without Joe Thornton. How is Bell better than Murray?

Wings have about 2m in cap space. Datsyuk opens up another almost 4. Doan makes about 3.3m. So Datsyuk and Joey Mac for Doan and a pick or prospect?
-
My Tivo says both of those were touchdowns....
