If Weight is traded for equal salary..the Blues probably are significantly better right there. In that trade the Blues would likely be looking for any or all of: a defenseman, a goalie, as well as someone to replace Weight up front. Perhaps they will try and trade Weight for Kolzig and Witt?? Witt wants to play for a contender and I don't see Kolzig going anywhere. He's been real solid for them this season. Who cares what Witt wants? If I was Washington, I would trade him to a WORSE team. He has not shown that he deserves to be traded to a contender on request...considering people didn't feel star center Eric Lindros deserved to be traded where he wanted when he WASN'T being used by his current team, why should mediocre defenseman Brendan Witt? Because in this case, a realistic destination might be the one you want for him? I think any recieving team in the deal would care a great deal if Witt shows up or not! I also think that a contending team or at the very least a playoff team would be willing to pay more for Witt's services than a team like the Blues. Not to mention they'd probably get a lot more out of him on the ice. I think the Blues would be a solid team if they dealt Weight for Witt and Kolzig. They would have much better goaltending, improved defense, and wouldn't be losing a lot at forward because Tkachuk is due back soon, and he's better than Weight. Imagine...if they traded Weight as Tkachuk came back, they'd be making significant improvements up front, on D, and in net.

no, but a consistent healthy scratch on the worst team in the league means he's not quite that good, at least not right now. I would probably deal Mowers or Lilja for him, maybe both. But I would not give anywhere near what he was worth in 03-04, considering he's two years older and there's no way to know if he'll ever return to his 03-04 form.
-
As has been said, he is more likely to hurt his knee in the NHL or AHL than in the Olympics. Torino would be a great place for him to get back in shape because it would be a high skill, low impact environment.

-sigh- Okay, here we go. Well, just because people "send" you tapes over the internet, doesn't mean you know what your watching. You should try watching the game live on your "friends" CIP maybe he could help you understand. Foul tip. You don't have to "say" your opinion matters more than mine, the way you wright your posts speaks volumes. Bunt rolled foul. That's right, you never suggested a trade, because your dealing in NHL2k6 world. Sure, Bell would be a great fit, so would Crosby, Ovechkin, Stall, and every other young up and coming player who doesn't make alot. Teams are DYING to unload those guys BALL!! Why should we not think about trading Fillipulla, "The kid *LOOKS* like he's going to *MAKE THE ROSTER* next year." Well IMO if you can't make the roster over players like Mowers and Cleary, your still a ways off and maybe you could contribute to another team, whilst boosting the Wings lineup via trade. Are we trying to win the cup this year or next. We have TONS of POTENTIAL talent, your not going to be able to bring in all these high-priced guys you want and keep everyone you want so....why not improve this year? IT'S GOING GOING! 2.4, well THIS year it would be 1.2, next year the Cap goes up anywhere from 2-8 mil, so you can afford to pay some role players a little more. Last time I checked scoring goals wins games, so fighting to me, while fun and cool to watch, just isn't something the Wings really NEED. So do you want to let me speak my opinions, or you going to try to be "clever" again. HOME RUN! Last time I checked baseball analogys were really lame. take it easy Boss, I'm not the GM so I won't be pulling the trigger on your beloved prospects. Picking up Lapointe would be a bad move. He's way overpriced. I wouldn't pay more than 1m or maybe 1.2m for him for the whole season, let alone half. Especially combined with trading away solid forward prospects who are close to NHL ready. Why not just trade Grigorenko while we're at it, since he's not on the roster right now?

Detroit was rumored to be picking up Weight in 2003 to replace Fedorov. We instead have Lang, who is better. And Lang is our third best center. Detroit would more likely be going for Tkachuk if they were picking up a Blues forward. A move which would likely involve trading AWAY a center (probably Lang) rather than getting one.
-
Play. He would likely be used in limited role depending on how well he had recovered to that point. It couldn't hurt him to be playing alongside Samuelsson, Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Liv as a peripheral player instead of an AHL recovery stint where there are more goons who are going to be gunning for him because he'd be the best player there and they are minor league scrubs whose career has no hope of moving to the next level.
-
Yeah. My though is Brewer would make an acceptable replacement for Jiri. And if Jiri can come back, it means Lilja is no longer necessary (As Brewer and Chelios would be the #5 and #6 defensemen on the team) no to mention we would have one of the best young defense corps with Fischer/Kronwall/Brewer in the now and Kindl, Quincey upcoming, plus the emergence of Lebda as a decent player.
-
Jackman would help out our blueline a lot, but his shoulder injuries are likely to affect him for the rest of his career. And I get a little nervous about the notion of Detroit trading within the division. Especially when it's not just an exchange of a couple picks and prospects or a minor leaguer, but rather a capable first/second line centre like Robert Lang. Obviously the Blues aren't going to hurt us this year, but who knows what Lang could do for them in the future. He was absolutely great on an awful Caps team last year. Lang would be stuck on the second line in St. Louis because of Weight and his salary, even though Lang is the better player. Here's how this trade shakes down, though: C Lang 3.8m for D Jackman 1.14m Each player has already counted about 50% of his salary on his current team, so the Wings would be cutting down about 1.3m in cap, and the Blues increasing by that amount. Assuming the Wings were able to make this trade as-is, that would mean there would be about 2.5m of open cap space, while would allow for further moves to strengthen the team, such as perhaps the acquisition of a solid forward or another defenseman. However, it would be more likely the Wings would end up with Brewer instead of Jackman, as Brewer costs more, is older, and is not as good as Jackman. Brewer makes 2m, meaning there would be about a 900k difference in remaining salary that would affect the cap. I think Brewer is an overrated defenseman, but I might make that deal given that we are in severe need of decent, physical defensemen and Brewer would bring that and be able to play the Wings' puck-possession style. Assuming the Wings were to make this deal (Brewer or Jackman) and no other roster players were involved, here are the roster moves I see being made to make it work: Lebda sent down or Rivers waived. One of Hudler or Filppula called up. EDIT: Also, Lang only has one more year on his contract past this season. I don't see him resigning with the Blues unless they have improved significantly and have sorted out their ownership issues. Assuming he even plays past next year at all.

1/8 GDT: Detroit Red Wings Vs. Dallas Stars
eva unit zero replied to WhiteLightning91's topic in General
true, but osgood wasnt exactly all on his own seeming how he only had 23 shots to face the whole game. 6 goals in 23 shots is just really sad no matter who you are. and he faced 18 of those shots in a 28:44 minute span from the start of the second until he was pulled. That's a rate of 38 shots per 60 minutes. The Wings only had eleven shots during that same span, which projects to a measly 23 shots. You tell me why the Wings gave up so many goals. Couldn't have been that the defense just fell apart and there was no offensive pressure to keep the Stars from attacking? -
Worrell would play less than Mowers. Unless of course you are suggesting putting him in the top 12 forwards. In which case, who do you drop to #13? Dats, Zata, Lang, Shanny, Yzerman, Holmstrom, Draper, Maltby will play if healthy. That leaves Samuelsson, Williams, Cleary, and Franzen as potential dropees. Would you SERIOUSLY replace one of those guys with Worrell?? Worrell doesn't bring ANYTHING in EITHER end. That's two of our better offensive players and two of our better defensive players (who still bring more offensively than Worrell) I'd rather get a guy who has toughness AND skill. Even if he's a defensive specialist who can't play offense, he'd be better than Worrell because he could play decent minutes without hurting the team. Mowers is perfectly capable of playing a decent number of minutes. To use the tune of the Cult of Manny, he's never been given a chance to show his ability past what you can do in a few sparse minutes a night. Ideally, we would be trading for a tough, physical defenseman and getting rid of Lilja at the same time...

I would rather keep Manlow. LaFlamme is terrible. Manlow is not great but he has size and scoring ability. Detroit has tons of defensemen better than LaFlamme, who is neither offensively skilled nor defensively stalwart, and does not play a strong physical game. Mowers for Worrell I'm not sure I would do...Worrell is a goon in the classic sense...that's not what Detroit needs. Worrell wouldn't contribute any more toughness than Mowers does because he wouldn't play any more than Mowers doe,s likely less because Mowers at least can be used on the PP or PK if needed, while Worrell is just a fourth line scrub who can fight. I would rather have Manlow than Worrell given the choice.

And moves like that plus his size and the potential it brings are why I think giving up on him is a bad idea.

I think I'm about ready to put it in my sig. Had Pavel came over at the age Hudler did he'd have been traded off for Macoun or Mironov at the deadline by Wings fans. Jiri is still a full year younger than Pavel was when he first came over and your description fits Datsyuk of '01-'02 to a T. peace Hudler is also smaller than Datsyuk, and Pavel is under-sized as it is. Jiri has undeniable talent, there's no doubt about that, but his less-than-amazing skating ability, and more importantly, his lack of size and strength, could keep him from being anymore than an AHL super-star. Though we all knew Hudler was a high-risk/high-reward player when the Wings drafted him, and he still could be a major point-producer. But even if he does develop into the talented, play-making center that Datsyuk is, do we really want another player like that in the lineup? We've got too little muscle in the top six as it is, and Hudler only makes Detroit smaller. I think we have to deal from our strengths in order to address our weaknesses, and right now, our strength is play-making centers. Though Hank and Pavel are generally seen as being untouchable, one of either Lang, Williams, or Hudler could be shipped out. Though I suggest we hang onto J-Will. Unfortunately, he's probably the most physical of anyone on the top two lines, and his defensive lapses mainly only come into play while he's playing point-man on the PP. And he shouldn't be there in the first place anyway; I hope Kronwall gets his spot when he gets healthy. Yeah, let's just get rid of Datsyuk, who needs any players like that who lead your club in scoring year after year...

He's got the C because Richardson is injured, if I'm not mistaken.

You're right, I didn't see the game. Was busy driving home. But I'm a Michigan fan and I still say, if you lose your bowl game under whatever circumstances, you have bigger things to worry about than if you should have gone to a better one. It just sounds like huge sour grapes to complain about it. Michigan had its worst season since 1984. That was so long ago, the Tigers were actually good. They lost their bowl game, they lost to Ohio State, and they lost the Little Brown Jug. By Michigan standards it was a crummy season. They got bigger fish to fry than whether they should have been in the Outback Bowl or not. It's not like it's the BCS. It's not like it's even one step below the BCS in the Citrus Bowl (side note: f*** Capital One). It's the Outback Bowl. Better to spend the energy complaining about the defense that couldn't make a crucial stop all season. Sorry, I don't like seeing Michigan have to burn two timeouts to get reviews on plays that should have been reviewed anyway, especially when one call is reversed and the other SHOULD have been. Or BLATANT pass interference penalties that are not called, and as a result of this Michigan gives up the ball instead of getting a first down inside the Nebraska 5. Or even worse, when a penalty is NOT called on the final play of the game, when Nebraska's entire team mobbed the field DURING play while MICHIGAN had the ball, and had they not rushed the field Manningham would have had a clear path down the field. As it stood, Michigan made it to the 13 yard line and would have had another down from inside the ten had a penalty been called, as the game cannot end on a defensive penalty.
-
Two things-- Michigan was cheated out of the bowl game. If you couldn't see that, you obviously didn't see the game. Michigan had an identical record to Iowa, and BEAT Iowa AT Iowa, and was ranked higher than Iowa in all rankings, not to mention Iowa had more recently played Florida and more recently played in the Outback bowl. So how does Iowa go to the Outback bowl ahead of Michigan? NOTHING this season or in recent history ranked Iowa above the Wolverines in the Big Ten or otherwise.
-
Holland's first in-season acquisition was Dmitri Mironov. He was acquired before the deadline and for next to nothing.
-
WOW!!!!!!!!! I had no clue Booter had been doing that well...Holland is really starting to piss me off now, its like he actually thinks Mowers can help the team.........please somebody take the blinders off him before we have another disapointing playoffs...... Maybe he thinks Bootland is better off developing this season by getting time in Grand Rapids than not playing at all in Detroit?
-
Considering it should have been Michigan in that game, not Iowa, I don't feel much sympathy. especially the way Michigan was jobbed by the backyard refs in the Alamo.
-
Yes..let's instead discuss how Michigan should have been in the Outback bowl in Iowa's place, considering they beat Iowa AND had the same record, as well as having been there less recently. Or the fact that in the Alamo bowl (the subject of this thread btw) Michigan was consistently and repeatedly SCREWED by the worst officiating in recent memory in a college football game?
-
I say 'dominate' more from the aspect that Michigan seemed to be in control of the game for most of the game. OSU broke out a couple amazing plays at the end but Michigan generally controlled the flow. Even the OSU fans who were at the game were not exactly happy the way it was going even when OSU was leading.
