They are both very good stick handlers, and we've both seen how they can do in shootouts. Forsberg, 94 Olympics.. Crosby, well, you know. Yes, but they are not top ten elite scorers. That's what that list effectively is. Crosby is on it because he's pulled a couple nice moves and has a ton of hype around him. Forsberg is on it because he's Forsberg and even though he's never scored more than 30 goals in a season, and of his goals many are just from playing hard and following up rebounds, or picking up a backdoor pass....not many him-or-the goalie one-on-one situations.

Bill Muckalt, Zdeno Chara, and the pick used for Jason Spezza brought in Alexei Yashin. Dipietro was an Isles draft pick, no trade involved. Luongo was traded with Olli Jokinen for Mark Parrish and Oleg Kvasha (who led the team in scoring last year) Jokinen was acquired with Josh Green and Mathieu Biron as well as the pick used on Taylor Pyatt when the team was forced to trade Ziggy Palffy to the LA Kings (after the NHL did not allow them to trade him to the Rangers). Bryan Smolinski, Marcel Cousineau and a pick went the other way. Biron and a 2nd rounder (Denis Grot) were traded for Adrian Aucoin and Alexander Kharitonov. Green was traded with Eric Brewer and a 2nd rounder for Roman Hamrlik. Pyatt and Tim Connolly were traded for Michael Peca. Peca was later traded for Mike York and a pick. Muckalt was acquired with Dave Scatchard and Kevin Weekes for Felix Potvin and two picks who have yet to play in the NHL. Weekes, Kristian Kudroc, and a 2nd (Matthew Spiller) wre traded for a 1st (Raffi Torres), 4th (Vladimir Gorbunov) and 7th (Ryan Caldwell) Scatchard signed with Boston as a free agent. Hamrlik signed with Calgary as a free agent. Aucoin signed with Chicago as a free agent. Potvin was acquired for Bryan Berard, who was a draft day deal for Wade Redden because Berard didn't want to play for Ottawa. Torres and Brad Isbister were traded for Janne Niinimaa and a pick. Luongo, Palffy, Smolinski, Isbister, Kudroc, Connolly, Redden, Dipietro, Cousineau and Chara were Isles draft picks. So...it's more like this: Luongo, Palffy, Smolinski, Isbister, Kudroc, Cousineau, Connolly, Redden, Chara and the pick used for Spezza for Niinimaa, York, Kvasha, Parrish, Kharitonov, (Aucoin, Hamrlik, Scatchard) I'm sure the Isles would GLADLY reverse the grand swap if they could, but many of those deals were money-motivated and if the Oilers and Flames get off the hook for dealing Bill Guerin, Doug Weight, Theoren Fleury, Gary Roberts, etc. for far less than they were worth then the Islanders should get a free pass on the deals they made too.

I though so. The fact that people here think Tomas Kopecky is a power forward is just crazy. Only and I repeat only in the Red Wings organization are players like Kopecky labeled as such. Any other organization would simply tag him again as a garabage underachiveing (sp) prospect. THe only players close to actually being a Power Forward for this organization in the NHL are Grigs and possibly and I mean possibly Filppula. Kopecky is more physical that Filppula EVER will be. Filppula is a two way finesse player...there is no 'power' to his game. kopecky on the other hand made a name in the WHL by using his size, and using his size and strength has been a big key to his success this year. I didn't say Kopecky was a power forward or would ever be one. But who other than Grigorenko even has the right set of tools in the Wings' organization? Bootland? Ellis? Those guys don't have the kind of skill needed.
-
Kovalchuk. And for the record...Crosby and Forsberg don't belong on that list...they are NOT snipers of any kind. You could replace them with any number of guys, like Simon Gagne, Daniel Alfredsson, Glen Murray, Brendan Shanahan, Markus Naslund, Alexei Kovalev, Alexei Yashin, Ziggy Palffy, Mats Sundin, and others.

And over that entire span he managed a point per game. I would take an inconsistent player who could manage a point per game over an entire season over a consistent one who averaged .5 or maybe even .75 points per game, depending on physical and defensive abilities.

Ok... so Howard and Hudler are re-assigned?

Already a thread. -
Defensemen I would want in a Legace trade (some would likely require some sort of peripheral player, perhaps Meech, others could be done straight or even with Legace for dman-plus) and teams that I think could POTENTIALLY be interested; Legace to LA: Norstrom. Legace to Vancouver: Ohlund or Jovanovski Legace to Anaheim: Salei Legace to Pittsburgh: Umm...pass? Legace to Edmonton: Jason Smith Legace to Florida (assuming Luongo is dealt): Lukas Krajicek Legace to St. Louis: Eric Brewer or Barrett Jackman Legace to Toronto: Tomas Kaberle Legace to Washington: Witt Some of those are obviously not going to happen, such as Ohlund/Jovo/Jackman/Kaberle. The others I would be more than pleased to have.
-
No, he isn't...but that'll probably be the market for him. Think of it like this...with Filippula coming into his own (Babcock seems to favor him), Legace all but gone, and Meech more than likely never going to be a regular Red Wing, why not? Hudler alone could bring in better than Witt somewhere else.
-
our only other long term option? You mean as opposed to Liv, right? Because Osgood and Legace are the same age...and Legace will likely retire first too.

I would rank Fleischmann somewhere between Filppula and Kopecky.

OSU lost to the #2 and #3 teams in the nation, and beat everyone else they played. Notre Dame lost to the #1 team and to a team that finished below .500. And as I said...Notre Dame should be listed with THREE losses.

You remember the goal line fumble. Remember the play before that? the first down after Avant's long reception. Henne CLEARLY made it into the end zone. I recorded the game on my TiVo, could pretty easily slow down the play and see that he went over. The ball was spotted at the one, and the next snap was botched and ND ended up with a touchback, The touchdown was not reviewed, but ND got the ball on a review after the initial call being down by contact, which is NOT REVIEWABLE. Tell me how that is not total screwage.

EXACTLY!!! Notre Dame got the BCS berth by what it does OFF the field, not ON it. by being ranked in the top six, Notre Dame was guaranteed a berth. Its how the BCS is written. Even though two other at-large teams were ahead of them, they got the berth because the BCS rules give a slot to each major conference winner, and Notre Dame should they be top six because they are independent and cannot win a conference berth. It's not really fair--were it Army, Navy, Temple, or any minor conference champion such as 10-1 TCU, Oregon would be going.

Bonello, Keller, Jackson, Richards, Wilson, Amadio are the guys I think probably will not make an NHL team. Hudler, Kopecky, Filppula, McDonell, Manlow, MacLean, Bootland, Helmer, Quincey, MacIntyre, Himelfarb are the guys who have either made a roster in the past or I think have an excellent shot. The other guys are somewhere in between, with a chance at making it down the line, but they are either just not good enough or getting too old as a minor leaguer to be given the grade of probable.

Let me see this addition.. Boston/San Jose-actual trade: Thornton/Sturm+Primeau+Stuart Detroit/Boston-proposed trade: Lidstrom/Sturm+Samsonov+Leetch So Boston trades away Thornton, Samsonov, and Leetch to get Lidstrom, Primeau, and Stuart. Thornton--Lidstrom...fair deal. Samsonov--Stuart...fair deal. Leetch--Primeau Ok, so the basic variance in whether Boston comes out ahead or not is whether you would make the Brian Leetch/Wayne Primeau swap, and from which side? Boston comes out just fine...a little weakened up front but damn strong on defense. And probably better overall.

Wow, you're still on that. Michigan played terrible that game and deserved to lose. If they'd had played the entire game with the urgency they did at the end, maybe you'd have a point in being angry with this still. And they got it right, who cares about Oregon? PAC 10 football is a joke. Oregon is a solid team, but who did they beat? At least Notre Dame had a Michigan win on their resume. Either way, I'm extremely excited about an Ohio State-Notre Dame matchup. The traditions are amongst the best of the best. And I think we have a real good chance of blowing those bastards out of the water. I am not denying the buckeyes stake in the BCS....they deserved it after the season they had...but lets face it. MICHIGAN WAS TERRRIBLE THIS YEAR!! *clapping hands* OVER-RATED!!! *clapping hands* Oregon has a good team. Notre Dame has a good team. Oregon is better tho. Both played USC and lost. Notre Dame lost to the crappy Michigan State Spartans!!!! No, I agree. Notre Dame does not deserve to be as highly ranked as they are, and certainly does not deserve a BCS bid. Notre Dame finished behind Oregon in the Coaches' poll and in the computer rankings. Imagine where they (and Michigan for that matter) would have placed had the Michigan/ND game been properly scored...The places might be reversed.
-
Notre Dame also lost to Michigan, but the referees decided Michigan would have to get into the end zone on two consecutive plays to be awarded a TD, so those points never went up. Notre Dame is only ranked so high because they never dropped. They were ahead of Oregon last week and the week before, and if a team wins, the only way it'll drop in the rankings is if its Michigan. EDIT: And Oregon IS ranked ahead of Notre Dame in the BCS. The problem for them lies in that they are behind Ohio State and did not win their conference. Notre Dame's top six finish guarantees them an At-Large bid, even if one of Oregon and OSU get screwed. And before you go 'well Oregon only lost to USC' Ohio State only lost to Penn State and Texas.

I would trade Legace and Datsyuk for Naslund.

'D' Means he could drop to as low as 70% of the numerical ranking, which for a 7.5 would be 5.25, which is a third/fourth line grinder. a 7.5 in itself places him as a high level second liner if he reaches his MAXIMUM potential. The way I usually use the HF ratings is to take the 'bottom-out' rating and the maximum rating, and average the two. That usually gives a more realistic impression of where the player will end up, unless there is an extenuating circumstance why the player's letter would be lower (such as Grigorenko's accident) in which case I may or may not adjust the player's 'bottom out' upwards depending on the extenuating circumstances (Grigorenko's recovery has at least earned him a B as opposed to a C) I also calculate A ratings the same as B rankings, because NO player is a guarantee. So Latendresse's LIKELY potential by those guidelines is 6.375, putting him as a probable second/third liner. By comparison, Tomas Kopecky's 7.0D ranking projects out to a minimum 4.9, and average 5.95, putting him as a third liner and not far behind Latendresse. Kopecky is projected as a similar type of player also.

The better brother.

Not true. Brad Rutter absolutely kicked Ken's ass in the three-day final of the $2 million tournament..
