Rafalski needed to drop back the moment the puck came off his stick. He didn't head back until the Stars had possession, which is what hung Kronwall, and ultimately Ozzie, out to dry.
-
Rafalski got first star, right? He was responsible for the game tying goal and the game winning goal. Total clutch play.
-
Interference is intentionally impeding another player with your body (not grabbing; that's holding) when that player does not have the puck and is not in possession of the puck. Possession in the case of most penalties includes about to receive a pass, near a loose puck, or having just passed or shot the puck.

Better; if we could somehow take Hudler and Helm, and duplicate Hudler's offensive skills into Helm while duplicating Helm's energy/effort, speed, physical game, and defense into Hudler.... Now THAT would be excellent.

Well, I know most of you around here thought Tomas Kopecky was useless as a Wing, and would never become anything. Some of you may remember those of us who did think he could be good suggesting that he could or would likely develop into a second line power forward. Just thought I would bring up some current stats: 32 GP, 3g-15a-18pt, tied for 96th in forward scoring (places him as a second line forward , offensively), 26 takeaways (tied for 16th) Any thoughts?

I didn't say at Laguardia.

I think you are the only poster who has ever intentionally called me a girl. And because you are such a complete tool: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neon_Genesis_Evangelion http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evangelion_%28mecha%29#EVA_Unit_00

Kopecky may not be the most prolific goal scorer on the team, but he would be third on the Wings in assists. His stats are rather similar actually to board favorite Todd Bertuzzi. LGW tends to consider Bertuzzi a power forward...what's so different about Kopecky? His defense? His nationality? His willingness to try and kill someone for crashing into his teammate and injuring him in a race for the puck? None of that makes someone a power forward. And I have one other question...is this your fourth or fifth account? When did this thread become about me?

Last I checked, the Yotes have a private jet, so the only obstacles would be getting previously unscheduled runway clearance, as well as the trip from the airport to MSG. 8 hours is plenty of time for that; the flight you listed was probably San Antonio to Dallas and then later Dallas to New York. A single direct flight takes away all the waiting time between flights, which can be hours.
-
Sidney Crosby and Ville Leino are +14. Pavel Datsyuk is +10. Nathan Horton and Danny Briere are tied for the league lead at +17. Which player listed do you think is the best defensively?
-
The flight time from San Antonio is about 3 hours. Given that the article was posted an hour before puck drop, and that the club would have know Bryzgalov's condition well before then, bringing in Montoya or Climie could have been done easily.

*waves* Hi. What threads did you say I disappeared from? I will gladly go back and take a look at them if you feel I didn't hold up my end of the debate properly.

That's 1996.

As I said before, plus/minus is a worthless statistic. It can be affected positively or negatively without a player having any effect on the play. Datsyuk wins the faceoff, passes to Zetterberg, Z shoots and scores. Homer, Lidstrom, and Stuart all get pluses also. Most of the opposing team's players wouldn't have had any chance to affect the play, yet they get a minus. Tell me Crymson, what makes it such a wonderful stat when there's no way of telling how much effect a player actually has on it?
-
According to capgeek.com, the Yotes have three other goalies signed and in the minors. WTF?
-
Plus minus is a worthless statistic. If Cleary dumps the puck in for a line change and goes to the bench, but Seabrook falls at the blue line, so Helm instead of heading to the bench goes and gets the puck, then puts in in front where Datsyuk scores...what happens statistically? Or if a forward dumps the puck in near the goaltender and goes to the bench, but the goaltender has already passed the puck up to his teammates, and they end up scoring a goal? The player who made a huge error in judgement is spared a minus, but his teammates who had to try and make up for his mistake all get minuses, even the guy who just stepped on the ice. Wonderful stat. Almost as useless as the GWG.

At least it's not Dan Quinn. Scored 94 points on that line, and over the next couple seasons he was shuffled around and was an okay second line scorer for Vancouver, St.Louis, and Philadelphia. But early in the 1992-93 season he was accused of rape, and because of the accusation the Stars released him. He signed on with Ottawa for 1993-94 after the charges were dropped, but only played in 13 games. He played well his later years but never more than 44 games in a season.

Twist? What stats did I twist? I simply pointed out that Kopecky was posting strong offensive numbers, and had an excellent takeaway stat (as that seems to be universally deemed by this board as the indicator of your defensive ability) and reminded everyone that he had been written off by this board. I twisted nothing.

So how exactly does this work when you figure in the salary cap? It didn't say anything about the Coyotes actually signing him to a player contract.

Realistically - Chances that Holland makes a deadline move?
eva unit zero replied to stevkrause's topic in General
For a limited time only. Unless we want to lose him on waivers. Of the players I listed as 'tradeable' in my previous post, only Hudler and Stuart have shown the ability to be a top 6 forward or top 4 defenseman over a full NHL season. Stuart is among the Wings' top four, while Hudler is not in Detroit's top 6. This makes Hudler an attractive commodity for other teams to seek, and as such Detroit would likely get considerably more than Leino brought. Leino never performed in Detroit. Hudler has scored clutch goals in the Cup finals and performed as a top six forward over an NHL season. -

I don't see a move being made that involves a roster player unless the Wings come out way ahead in the deal. There are some players the Wings have that are not going to be traded or cannot be traded due to NTC/NMC: Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen, Filppula, Holmstrom, Cleary, Draper, Modano, Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall, Howard, Osgood So this leaves the "tradeable" roster as: Bertuzzi, Hudler, Abdelkader, Helm, Eaves, Miller, Stuart, Ericsson, Salei, Kindl Bert and Salei are older vets who will probably not be traded. Abdelkader, Helm, Miller, and Eaves are young and have been playing well, especially given their ice time. Stuart has been having what may be a career year. Hudler is having the worst season of his career. Ericsson and Kindl are consistently touted as the future of Detroit's defense. Ericsson struggled out of the gate but has looked good recently. Kindl played well early but Ericsson's strong plays has prevented him from even getting into a game in over a month. The Wings have a Cup-capable roster right now, but also what must be considered is this; does Lidstrom retire? If so, then who replaces him? The only deadline deal that is really going to provide the kind of defenseman that can replace Lidstrom is trading Stuart and Hudler together; those two together have the cap space and trade value to acquire a top-pairing defenseman. But realistically, we're not going to see a roster deal. -
Shanahan was a great forward. Yzerman is a legend. He was an all-time great and he was the superstar player and leader, the nucleus around which the Red Wings rebuilt the franchise. Without Yzerman, you don't have the 90s full of winning teams. The Wings might look like the Pistons or Tigers, stumbling between a chance at the division championship all the way down to missing the playoffs, with no real consistency. Lidstrom is irreplaceable; finding someone to fill the open spot in the top four may be difficult, depending on when he leaves. Kronwall is becoming a very good defenseman, Rafalski is still one of the league's most talented offensive defensemen, and Stuart has a very strong two-way game. The best solution is to start playing Ericsson more and Rafalski less at even-strength, as next season is the last contract year for Rafalski, Kronwall, and Stuart. Rafalski will likely retire, but the other two are probable to return. The major questions are, does Lidstrom return next year? Does Salei return next year? If Nick is back, perhaps he plays with Stuart and Kronwall with Ericsson. Perhaps Rafalski mans the third pairing and the PP, until his expected retirement at (2011-12) season's end.

12/13 GDT: Kings, Lots (5) at Red Wings, None (0)
eva unit zero replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Malkin was responsible for the overtime goal in Game 5 that prolonged the series, and his line was responsible for two goals in Game 6. Osgood posted two impressive shutouts in the first two games, so tell me exactly where Filppula shut Malkin down? In Games three and four? Flip is a darn good defensive player, but Malkin pretty much owned Flip after Dats and Z were put back together. -

For the first four games, and then fell into a slump for a bit? Or do you mean later, when DZH was clicking big time and outplaying the second line even though the second line was playing pretty well? How about facts instead of fiction? -
A point per game player regarded as one of the most versatile, elite two-way players and top clutch performers of his day, who has been named a First-Team All-Star and has a Conn Smythe trophy, and currently is in his eighth season with plans to play many more years is not on track for the Hall? I think you underestimate the beard.
