Yes, of course, it's Bettman's fault because he didn't "do something" to help the teams. You realize that the NHL Board of Governors is who makes decisions and has the actual power to act, and Bettman is simply a face and a mediator/negotiator? The 1994 and 2004 lockouts were both about what? How much the teams were paying the players; ultimately a salary cap. The NHL was paying a significant percentage more of its revenue to the players than other major sports leagues.

As far as attendance is concerned, Quebec's average per-game attendance hovered consistently around 14,000. Winnipeg's average was typically about 13,000. Both clubs had arenas with a much higher capacity. Both teams were bleeding money (similar to some of the small-market teams today) and new arenas would not have prevented the teams from moving. Perhaps they may not have moved when they did, but they likely still would have.

Phoenix has better attendance history than either of Winnipeg or Quebec, FTR. Learn your history. The Jets and Nordiques didn't move because of the Canadian dollar. That's a LIE and a MYTH. They moved because the teams didn't have enough fan support. Certainly, a better dollar would have helped, but the teams would still have been sold and moved eventually.

If a player receives votes for a trophy, particularly first place votes, are they not challenging for said trophy?

Bure scored a bunch of shorthanded goals too. What does that prove? Yzerman was one of the league's better defensive centers for almost his entire career, including the 80s. Yzerman scored 155 points while challenging for the Selke trophy. I'm not aware of another instance where another player has scored even 135 points with a comparable defensive performance to what Yzerman displayed during the late 80s.

Also of note is that my top two forward lines and all three D pairs are combinations that actually were used for extended periods. EDIT: I only used players from during my lifetime and which I've watched play, otherwise I'd have included guys like Norm Ullman and Flash Hollett.

Hard to believe nobody had a spot for a guy like Kozlov. Yeah, he is getting old, but he is still a top-six forward in the NHL. A team like Columbus, for example, has the cap space to pay him, and the need for offensive players with the kind of skill Kozlov has.

A willing fighter is someone who is willing to fight. Zetterberg, while he hasn't fought much, has fought when challenged. Does that not make him a willing fighter? Not starting a fight if he gets hit doesn't mean he's not a willing fighter. If it did, then there are no willing fighters in the league.

IMHO, I think in the summer of 2015 the numbers in the rafters should be these: 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 19, 30 That adds Kelly, Lidstrom, Aurie, and Osgood to what's up there now.

Makes you wonder why better players didn't sign with Philly on the cheap then, since they're clearly winning the Cup in 2011... Hossa was cursed in 08 and 09. Won the Cup in 2010. I'm sure other players have fallen under this curse as well and then broken it. And it's "Incidentally" just for reference. Sorry, spelling and grammar mistakes are a pet peeve, as I used to get paid to correct them. -
Perry would definitely fit the bill, as much more more than a lot of guys I listed. Datsyuk is capable of using his body that way but generally doesn't. The same is true of Crosby. Both of those star centers could be much more aggressive physically in creating offense instead of using their skill and awareness. Whether that would make them better offensively, I don't know. But they have the size and strength to do so , but choose not to. So while they COULD play the style, they are not power forwards. Z is much more directly physical when creating offense than Datsyuk or Crosby, due in part due to playmaking ability; Z is not the same level of playmaker, but if he clears space with his body he has a shooting lane or passing lane. Dats, Crosby, Savard, and other high-end playmakers can use their threat as a passer to open space for themselves and their teammates. Joe Thornton is a good example of a player who could be an old-school power forward, but because he's arguably the best playmaker in the league he is much less physical than he could be.

Huh? He still gets paid his contracted salary and is still pid by the Wings no matter where he plays. I think you are confusing cap and salary. If he is in the AHL, his CAP HIT is not counted against the team. One-way deal or two-way deal, he's still paid by the Wings regardless of where he plays. -
Negotiating and agreeing to a contract which is rejected under the premise of cap circumvention is hardly collusion. If it had been Grossman rejecting more attractive deals proposed for Kovalchuk by other NHL teams without Kovalchuk's knowledge, with the intent of signing this deal and Grossman gets a nice payday from the Devils for Kovalchuk staying, THEN it would be collusion.

Players on one-way contracts receive their NHL salary no matter what league they are playing in. Players on two-way contracts receive their NHL salary when playing in the NHL and receive a smaller salary when playing in the AHL or another minor league. This is the ONLY difference between the two. There is no effect on waiver status whatsoever. Jiri Hudler played 12 games for the Wings in his first pro season in North America in 2003-04. He started the season at 19.
