I'm a little late to the posting game but I just want to say this in regards to getting Bertuzzi: GLEEEEEEEEE!!!!!! Now we've improved our skating with Calder, and gained just a little nasty edge with Bertuzzi, and if neither of them produces (HIGHLY UNLIKELY) we haven't lost anything. We're gonna have some fun now.

Hopefully we will never see this again!

Oh please. If you're going through life getting worked up about things like that I'd hate to see what you act like in a real tragedy, like maybe a dropped ice cream cone or spilled milk Yzerman hasn't been disrespected one tiny bit. -
Seems a touch hypocritical for LGW to be wishing Williams all the best when it seemed like the opinion at large was that he was a disgrace to the Wheel. Willy-bashing ain't my thing and never was - you have to appreciate a guy who worked hard enough to make the team, score nearly 60 points in a season, and earn a multi-million dollar deal without ever being drafted. Chicago's got some up-and-comers so he'll fit in nicely there. Always (well, almost always) wish all the best to former Wings, so here's to ya, Willy.

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal
betterREDthandead replied to WingsFANstuckintheSOUTH's topic in General
God, you people are never happy, are you? "Williams sucks! He's horrible! Trade him for a bucket of pucks! For warm beer! For a bag of steaming seagull feces! Waive him! No hockey sense. Worthless on defense. Lazy. Can't skate. Can't shoot. Can't score. Worst player in the league." Start whole threads just to hate Williams. Kenny PLEASE PLEASE PLZ PLZ PLZZZZZZZZZZ do something!! Anything! Kenny sucks if he doesn't make a trade. Now comes the possibility that Williams might be gone....not only that, but the possibility that Kenny exercised some creativity (i.e., three-team trade) to get it done, and improve on the offense, and half you people are bitching! Good Lord! Shut up! -
Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

Eklund, at least, never includes both sides of a trade unless it's already been confirmed. He'll say Guerin to Detroit but won't EVER say the price. -
Guerin to Detroit MIGHT be done (E4)
betterREDthandead replied to WingsFANstuckintheSOUTH's topic in General
Until there's a non-Eklund source, it's Rumor Mill stuff and there's already a thread there for it. -
I love Philly's third. Why they ever stopped wearing orange and switched to that hideous black jersey is beyond me. Philly's black jersey is one of the worst looks in the whole league. Far too many black and blue teams in the league. 20 teams wear either black or blue. So I think Philly should go back to orange, Florida should go back to red, and Los Angeles should go with purple and use the crown logo (very cool look).
-
Not only that, but it was only worn for one year. People act like it's such a wonderful link to the past.

North Carolina lost to Maryland yesterday which sets up a terrific week of ACC basketball. UNC, VT, and UVA are all tied for first at 10-4 with two games each remaining, and BC is at 10-5. Big race to the finish line. Game of the week will surely be Virginia Tech's trip to Charlottesville on Thursday. It's a race to see who's the best team in the best conference in the country!

Seems to be a really mixed reaction to these. More so than most new looks. Personally I think the Canucks would have been a really good candidate to do a stylized VC logo, similar to what you might see on a baseball cap. Right now what they've got is a 70's logo, a 20's style logo, all slapped onto an Rbk jersey with 21st-century faddish striping patterns. You can't just slap old logos on new patterns and call it old-school.

Ah ah ah.....regular season champs That must have been a hell of a game though. 49-48....typical Big Ten slugfest. I imagine if you could ever apply three yards and a cloud of dust to basketball, that would have been the game to do it. I got a little something to brag about in my own right: no ACC championship yet, but beating Georgia Tech on Saturday clinches a bye in the ACC tournament. 10 wins in the ACC pretty much punches your dance card, but I sure would like to be seeded, say, 4th, instead of 7th. Still, we haven't been to the tournament since 2001, at which time we flamed out as the unlucky sacrificial 5 seed.

Minny does plan on using the red jersey next year and ditching the green one. Which is a pity, as there are seven teams currently wearing red but just three (if you count San Jose's teal) that wear green. With 20 teams wearing either black or blue at home, the league could stand more color variety. And I agree with whoever said the new Canucks threads look like a Reebok template. In fact they look just like the quotation marks practice jerseys, with a few extra stripes thrown in to look all futurey. Despite the change to a better color combo, the logos are stupid as is the practice of using two separate logos for home and away jerseys. Boo to the change.

Hate 'em. Never liked the rink-and-stick logo, it's the product of laziness, not cleverness. The only cool thing is the return to blue and green, but frankly the Canucks never looked better than when they wore the flying skate. Between the ugly giant V, the weird rink-and-stick, and the orca logo, the Canucks have almost always been one of the worst-dressed teams in the league. I want the flying skate back.

Our schedule may change drastically, so I might actually be in town in April. But not as early as April 1. I'll keep you guys posted.

i would never expect a basketball player to play with a separated shoulder - how can he shoot, or constantly keep his arm in the air to defend, or use that arm for the up-and-down motion of a dribble? A hockey player can hide it and still be effective. Basketball players can't possibly be effective with a separated shoulder.

I'm sure if a player the caliber and stature of Wayne Gretzky is traded, it will be given a sufficient amount of broadcast time no matter what events are going on in other sports. The trade deadline is a competitive balance issue, not a showcase issue. The powers that be came up with a time frame for the deadline based on a lot of things, and changing it so as not to interfere with another league's events is asinine. National Signing Day for NCAA football is the first week in February. Spring training in MLB begins shortly thereafter. There's the NFL combine. The NBA just had it's All-Star Game, same day as the Daytona 500, last weekend. The Oscars are on, and so are the Grammys. Conference tournaments such as the ACC, Big Ten, and Big East are upcoming in NCAA basketball, and they're followed by March Madness. So when do you think the NHL should try and squeeze in the trade deadline to accommodate, hm?

'K, I realize this thread won't have much of an audience since NHL fans and NASCAR fans are almost entirely mutually exclusive. Still. Anyways, I decided to watch yesterday. I've never followed NASCAR, and I generally only watch a race if I'm flipping channels and one happens to be on. I don't have a favorite driver and I don't get into the whole Ford vs. Chevy thing. No Calvin-pissing-on-an-oval sticker. But after yesterday's race I might just have to watch more races. It was pretty exciting. I decided to watch mainly because it was the first race where I ever had a rooting interest. Since Toyota has decided to invade NASCAR, I was rooting for every Toyota car to hit a wall and burn up. I hate Toyota. Happily, the highest Toyota finish was 22nd. But the actual race was pretty fun too - the two leaders, leading for the whole race almost, crashed each other out of the race with about 45 laps to go, which set up a situation where there was a wreck once every ten laps or so. Best of all was the photo finish between two cars, with pretty much the entire field smashing into each other directly behind. One car literally finished the race upside down and on fire. Apparently there's no rule that says you have to cross the finish line on your wheels Anyway, now that I have a rooting interest in NASCAR, which is to hope that Toyota never earns a top-20 finish and wrecks as many of its cars as possible, and now that I've actually seen a very exciting NASCAR race, maybe I'll have to actually become a fan now.

Too late now. Besides, I'm a Lions fan, you think I can't handle pulling for an underdog? According to the article it was New Hampshire.

Yeah, I don't know who, if anyone, I'll settle on as a favorite driver, but I'm pretty sure it won't be Jeff Gordon. I really got nothing against him, but I can't see myself rooting for him either. It'd be like going to N'Sync concerts and insisting it's cause I think they have really good songs. I'll tell you who would be my favorite driver, if I could only remember who it is. Couple years ago, don't remember exactly when, I was flipping through channels when I found a race in the middle of a crash. After the cars had stopped spinning and the drivers involved had climbed out of their cars and the race was well under caution, one driver was still pretty pissed. He grabbed a piece of his wrecked car, waited in ambush for the driver that had apparently bumped him into the wreck in the first place (and had escaped unscathed) and chucked the piece of wreckage at the other driver as he drove past. Hilarious (if dangerous). I can't get the idea out of my head that the targeted driver was Junior. I got nothing against Junior either, it's just that the whole idea of waiting for the guy who wrecked you and chucking things at his car is funny as hell. If I could somehow find out who that was, I'm sure he'd be the guy I root for. EDIT: found it. that didn't take long. yay search engines. Turns out it was Robby Gordon throwing his helmet at Michael Waltrip. The article I found mentioned that Gordon tried to use his own car to bump Waltrip after the wreck the first time around, then threw the helmet the second time around, resulting in a Bronx salute from Waltrip. Which is close enough to how I remember it. Fine, works for me. Robby Gordon it is

MAJOR AWESOMENESS: I know nobody gives a damn, but I don't care. Kickass.

Brilliant plan

That's a theory that will be put to a very rigorous test if the deadline passes without any action, I'm afraid.

Au contraire, we will be huge players in the FA market this summer, especially if Datsyuk takes off. Holland, if I'm not mistaken, set it up that way with the contracts he signed people to this past offseason, knowing that the age limit for UFAs would be dropping and the '07 market would be a good one. We already have $2.6 million in what people consider wasted dead money (Williams, Lilja) and people are nearly having seizures over this. Why would having Lapointe instead be any different? As Crymson is trying to hammer into people's heads, Lapointe is brutal defensively. People think he'd be a grittier, fighting Maltby. He wouldn't. Maltby doesn't turn to jello when he enters his own zone.
