Yes. Goalie is the last thing we need, and the most expensive thing we could buy. Forget the idea of getting another goalie.

Which Wings are ‘Untouchable’?
betterREDthandead replied to Aussie_Wing's topic in General
Zetterberg is the future of the team. Crosby and Ovechkin are the future of the league. Crosby and Ovechkin are Jordan and Bird - Zetterberg is Isiah. Sorry, but just about everyone would swap Z for Crosby and never look back. -
MLive: Forsberg talk heats up, deal "in days"?
betterREDthandead replied to Howe's Bony Elbow's topic in General
K, so here's my question. Say the Wings offer the best deal for Forsberg and Philly's all set to ship him to Detroit, but Kenny can't pull the trigger on a Lang deal. Would/should the Wings turn down Forsberg and keep what they have, or just load up on centers and maybe move someone to a wing? -

Since Ovechkin and Crosby are untouchable, so are Zetterberg and Lidstrom. -
MLive: Forsberg talk heats up, deal "in days"?

He was just being PC. There wasn't any enthusiasm to those words. He's saying he wants to stay in Philly so that if the Flyers can't work out any deal, he hasn't burned any bridges. "I want to stay and be part of the rebuilding process" is the default answer to any question like that. Athletes are always happy right where they are, at least in front of a microphone. To give any other answer is basically to say "I don't like the city, don't like the fans, don't like the team or the organization." At least, that's how the comments will be interpreted. -

All I see from that press conference is that Forsberg said "no comment" in about five hundred words. -
Since there was a teeny bit of uncertainty there (NHL.com taking down the link then re-posting) I waited to find a corroborating source before posting it. When RDS mentioned it, then I added it.

If it gets us the decent scoring winger we need, one that'll also stick around for the future, I'd trade Kronwall in a heartbeat. Lidstrom and Zetterberg are untouchable. So are guys that fill a definite role: Holmstrom, Cleary. Love Homer on the power play and Cleary on the PK....plus we'll never find anywhere else the bang for the buck that Cleary provides. Anybody who's a goalie except for MacDonald should be off limits too. Beyond that, if the return is right, why not? -

Fixed it with Hudler's new nickname it's been decreed that no grown man should ever be called Huddles except perhaps by his wife/girlfriend. -

Getting Forsberg would be just about the weirdest thing I can think of. In fact I don't think there's a single player in the league that would look stranger in a Wings jersey. Who would have thunk it, round about, oh, say 2001? But I'd welcome the move. No matter what your thoughts about Forsberg, he'd undeniably improve the team. -
In defense of the Philly fans who booed Santa Claus, the Santa story needs some context. "Santa" was a drunk-as-a-skunk Eagles fan making a complete ass of himself.....I think he might have ended up in the Vet courtroom that day. It's a pretty weak defense though. Philly may be the only town that booed Santa Claus, but as they're the only town where Santa deserves it, it doesn't add much to the reputation I have no idea where that picture came from, by the way. It's several years old. At least seven or so. One of those things that floats around the InterWebs. I always wear my colors in opposing stadiums/arenas. Humorous pictures aside, I'm sure it's perfectly safe. I can't think of a good reason why I wouldn't sport my Wings stuff if I was going to a Wings game.

Mickey can't stop talking about UM/MSU even while calling the Wings game

I don't think Quincey will, either. But the Wings don't need six top-four defensemen. Lebda can also provide a little offense from the blue line. They'll need scoring forwards if Datsyuk leaves, though, and you trade from strength to fill weakness. Kronwall is the one guy they have that can bring in scoring help from the second line or better. Sure, Lidstrom, Schneider, and Chelios won't be around forever, but the Wings can't spend all of next summer trying to build for 2010.

I have yet to chime in on this one, but here's my piece: Kronwall, for the hype, has been a minor disappointment. He's not a bust, but he's not playing like a first rounder. And he's 26, which means he's rapidly leaving the time of his career where he can be expected to be going through growing pains. The Wings have no shortage of defensemen, but are hurting at forward, and are very likely to get even worse in that respect since Datsyuk is likely to leave. Langfeld's not the answer to anything, he's just a younger Mark Mowers. The Wings have three defensemen that can step up to the plate next year, in Quincey, Meech, and Ericsson, and another that the brass thinks can challenge for a spot: Kindl. What this all adds up to is that Kronwall is PRIME trade fodder during the summer, in order to bring in a forward. Think along the lines of to Ottawa for Mike Fisher. I think, if Datsyuk is lost, Holland would be looking into that as a possibility.

Fedorov held out for a good half-season rather than sign with the Wings and came back only because the rules forced him to. Plus Shanny's timing was better. Shanny left during an obvious changing of the guard. Fedorov wanted to leave when the fans perceived the Wings to be at the top of their game, and smack in the middle of a heated rivalry with Colorado, which at the time was swinging in favor of the Avs.

What I wouldn't give to be able to take advantage of that, especially back in Norfolk. Damn. Not only is Norfolk leading their division, but they and the second-place team - Hershey - are also (last I checked) #1 and #2 in the AHL in PIM. The Norfolk-Hershey game I went to last year was mad vicious. Hershey's got some dirty mofos. I'd go to every one of those games if I could. And the free game is against Bridgeport, they got some guys that are really fun to heckle in the penalty box.

Gosh, I wonder why they suck so bad

OK, lemme explain it like this: I think this post of yours is pretty dumb. I could choose to believe that it means you're a dumb person, or I could choose to believe it's not how you'll post in the future. In other words, I could hold this post (your "past") against you, or not. I choose not to. You said we have nothing but the past to judge people by, but just because we all know Bertuzzi smacked Moore doesn't mean I have to have a certain opinion about it.

Colorado defenseman Karlis Scratch-an-itch will play his 486th consecutive game tonight, against the Florida Panthers, tying Tim Horton's record for consecutive games by a defenseman. Assuming nothing goes awry for him tonight, he'll break the record Thursday against Atlanta. http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/preview;_ylt=A...?gid=2007020617

Just 'cause Stevie's been involved with the front office doesn't make the front office immune from criticism. And just because Stevie was God on the ice and in the locker room doesn't make him immune from criticism in the office. What it means is that Stevie gets the benefit of the doubt to start off, and that we all believe he'll do a good job based on the smarts he displayed on the ice. If Stevie takes over as GM and in three years turns the Wings into the Jackets, the name of Yzerman won't protect him from well-earned criticism as a GM.

In fairness....the dude played most of his prime under Marc Crawford. That guy practically demands his players have a horrible attitude. He certainly sets the example in that respect. Then he was traded to the most irrelevant, directionless team in the league. I can't imagine that Bertuzzi doesn't care about winning a Cup, and if he does, getting traded from Florida to Detroit would definitely be a huge step in that direction. Might just change that attitude.

Nice win today against the Lakers. Not much could have gone better for the Pistons tonight. And none of the top three scorers for the Pistons were named Chauncey or Rip (though Rip did chip in quite a few points). I like this - scoring with the bigs rather than depending on a ton of jump shots and three-balls. That'll be a recipe for playoff success.
