    Best Jersey in Detroit

I rank them like this: Tigers home whites Red Wings road whites Red Wings home reds Tigers road grays Lions home blues Pistons home whites Lions road whites Pistons alternate reds Pistons road blues And that's a hard call to make, because I love the Pistons road blues. So you can imagine how I feel about the rest of them. I think we're very fortunate to have the classiest uniforms of any city, as a group.

i like the yahoo one. Plus I got to check on my fantasy team. Ironically, I finally have a solid team top to bottom..except no tigers...and i am getting killed by chris shelton and this other teams tigers..lol I have Shelton on both of my teams plus Verlander on one of them....a very deep keeper league. and I have Maggs and Bonderman in the other. funny enough, I'm doing well out of the gate.

Been feeling the same way lately. I know exactly why: baseball is my favorite sport, I didn't get to watch any Tigers at all last year, having been overseas during the whole season, and I've got Center Ice, so I rarely miss a Wings game.....in other words, I need my Tigers fix! And they happen to be doing very well, so, bonus. If the Tigers aren't on TV, I recommend using MLB's site to follow the game online - it updates faster, and you get a neat little graphic with stats and junk.

First time since 1911 that the Tigers started the season with five wins in a row from their starters. And that doesn't even count, since George Mullin won three of those games. Five different ones this time. And yesterday they bombed one of the league's better pitchers in Kevin Millwood. It looks like the AL Central will be THE division this year, if the Tigers and Indians can stay strong, and the White Sox play like the defending Series champs. And not to forget the Twinkies. Pity the Royals.

the best part is, the Tigers aren't doing this the chintzy way. as Rod Allen pointed out, they have walked exactly one batter in these three games, and that's as of the start of the 9th tonight. they're mashing the ball and they're fielding very well. Tata came on and pitched nicely, bailed out a bit by the gloves behind him. edit: Maggs just put one off the top of the foul pole

    MLB Season 2006 thread

I have already developed a man crush on Joel Zumaya. Just imagine him when he has a few years experience under his belt. Is anyone else going to the home opener in Detroit next Monday? I'll be there. And I have to echo betterred, I honestly can't think of something that could happen in the world of sports that would make me happier than seeing the Tigers win the World Series. I was only four years old in 1984, so I don't remember the Tigers winning the World Series. I remember that my mom bought me a pennant though when they won. i was 5 when they won it in 1984. I had the tigers pennant to. Detroit is a baseball town and the city would go nuts if the Tigers even made the postseason. I wish I was there next monday, but instead, i will be comfy in my armchair watching the game on tv. mancrush is pretty much the word I had in mind too. I started giggling like a schoolgirl when I saw the radar gun say 99, and nearly lost control of my bodily faculties watching that curveball that struck out Emil Brown. and just think: Verlander is supposed to be a better prospect than Zumaya. drool. and now Pudge goes 5-for-5. Five homers - Inge, Pudge, Granderson, Thames, Guillen. Maggs is the only one who hasn't contributed to the offense. I know I should be careful, seein's'how it was the Royals and not exactly the Yankees, but damn, did those first two games get me excited for the season. now, am I the only one who thinks Jimmy Rollins' "38-game hitting streak" is bogus? I won't acknowledge his hitting streak record as the real one, if indeed he does make it past 56 to beat DiMaggio. You have to do it all in one season, otherwise it's not fair, the pressure comes off midway and it doesn't count. PS: I have that '84 pennant too, even though I was only 2 when they won it.

Supposedly it would have been Colon they called up, but he has "tender biceps" according to what I read in the news, and so it will be Tata instead. And yeah, Maggs looked like he hadn't swung a bat for months. Opening Day jitters, I'm hoping.....yeah, he's a veteran, but I think (I hope) he feels like he has to prove himself healthy this year. Besides, Shelton took a breaking ball deep to left and a fastball out to right. That was no hanging curve, either, I watched that pitch and it had as much of an arc as you could ask for in a curve. I can't wait to watch him hit all season long. Taking two different pitches deep, from two different pitchers and to both fields says a lot about his hitting skills. The Pirates must be just kicking themselves, especially after watching him on that lovely 3-6-3.

Zumaya pitched the 8th. Teahen (a lefty, no less) stood like the house by the side of the road for one of Zumaya's breaking balls. Buck hoisted a can of corn to right and DeJesus popped to left. dammit. that was a fresh pair of shorts.

    MLB Season 2006 thread

ohhhhhhhh I think I just creamed my pants watching Zumaya pitch the 7th inning. first time I've seen him pitch. a liiiiiiiittle rough, he put some runners on, but for the most part, he was just blowing that baseball by the hitters. 97-99 on the gun for the fastball, and then brought the breaking ball down to 79 and FROZE the batter. nasty stuff. just nasty. I mean sick nasty. a wee bit nervous, I think, but if he improves the command just a touch, he will dominate. and if he can add a changeup to his repertoire at some point, he'll be lights out in the 9th inning for 15 years. lemme go clean up my shorts. this won't be easy, as I have been watching Chris Shelton hit a pair and Guillen just bombed one to center. is Opening Day the s##t or what?

ohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygod OPENING DAY!!! Got my Extra Innings all set to go! Tigers are on! One of the very best days of the whole sports year, Opening Day. Gotta be honest: nothing in the sports world, and very little outside of it, would make me happier than if the Tigers were to win the World Series.

    It's time for a change

Pink and silver I really thought that the pink would give me away, but nope, someone took me seriously on that one too and I had to take it to the next level with the tights. Following would have been top hats (probably with some kind of hard plastic lining for protection) replacing the helmets, I do believe that's what Muse was talking about. Anyone who's seen me post on the subject of uniforms knows I hate third jerseys with a passion and consider the winged wheel on the red and white to be the best, classiest, and most elegant uniform set in all of hockey....in fact, better than any uniform set in all the world save one (Michigan's winged helmet and maize-and-blue unis get the slim edge). Which made it all that much more fun to argue for the pink-and-silver with Stanley Cup on front

    It's time for a change

Well you might be on to something with that skin tight thing. OK, maybe the players would look goofy going out there in all-Spandex (especially Keith "Donuts" Tkachuk) but some players in the NBA are starting to wear tights on their legs in order to keep their legs warm. Maybe that could catch on in the NHL? The players might be faster without those bulky hockey pants. And if you think the tights would look too "***" for your taste, keep in mind that the current outfit has grown men wearing garters. Might be that more than a few players would be glad to be rid of those. I think the Wings should be at the cutting edge of this one

    It's time for a change

Exactly. First come first serve on the logo. And the Habs haven't won since '93, during which time the Wings have added three to their resume and are threatening to add another one. Meanwhile the Canadiens are fending off the tradition-rich Atlanta Thrashers for that coveted 8th playoff spot. I think bright silver jerseys on the road and pink 'n' silver at home would really make a statement. And then, because everyone loooooooves black, a black third, again, with the "HOCKEYTOWN" diagonal lettering.

    It's time for a change

Just as I said....what logo could be more associated with the Cup than the Winged Wheel, and what better reason do you need to proudly display the Cup on the front of the jerseys?

    Another Goalie Poll

Putting the question that way would turn it into a debate over which is better. I phrased it this way to take all questions of "who's better" out of it.

    Detroit Pistons Season Thread

Pistons wrap up #1 seed in the East. Nice win over the Suns, what were they down, 17? On the one hand it's great to know that they're never out of any game no matter what the situation....on the other hand, it'd be nice if they would stop spotting teams such big leads in the first place. I don't usually buy it when there are two MVP candidates whose teams are playing each other and everyone says it's a head-to-head MVP matchup - usually it's guys who play different positions and don't have any effect on each other because they aren't guarding each other. But Nash vs. Chauncey - those guys are guarding each other all game, and when one guy has to foul the other at the end, you've gotta take notice. 35 points for Chauncey against Nash's Suns makes a nice MVP statement.

    It's time for a change

Yeah, I'm sure Toronto would not take issue with that, seeing how we're the team "most often identified with the Cup." I mean, come on, Detroit has 10 (TEN!) Cups to their name!! And how many does lowly Toronto have? 11? Oh... ...and Montreal has 23? oh... Let's change the logo anyway. When's the last time Toronto or Montreal has won the Cup? It's been decades for Toronto. The Wings have won more in the past decade than any other team. And Muse, I'm not worried about the league having some kind of trademark on the Cup. Remember, there was the notion that in the absence of the NHL during the lockout, the Cup should be awarded to someone else. Bright silver jerseys with the Cup emblazoned across the front, trademark the logo and let the league know who owns Stanley! And for a third jersey, put "HOCKEYTOWN" diagonally down the front the way the Rangers do. Perfect blend of tradition and 21st century style.
