movie night is good.....FOR ME TO POOP ON
-
well, it's common for a native Michigander such as myself but once you get south of Columbus or so, or east of Cleveland, you never hear it. certainly not here in Virginia where I live. I literally got blank looks of utter confusion when I first got to school down here and said pop instead of soda.
-
whew. it's a wonder they haven't started selling British-to-English dictionaries or something. and me thinking I'm all exotic and foreign cause I say "pop" where everyone else says soda.
-
"pork pies" is "lies" isn't it? that's about as far as I can get. ai yi yi. i guess the old saying is true: "Britain and America are two countries separated by a common language." I've heard of rhyming slang but how on earth can anyone make sense of it? I suppose "bint" is not exactly polite-company stuff?

I am the WORST about forgetting not to have meat on Fridays.
-
sweet, thanks, I thought that might be what it was but with words like lorry running around you can never be sure
-
"slacking off" is high on the list but "sleeping way too much" is a darkhorse candidate.

skint? I have to ask. your nutty British slang makes my head spin so.

....and the world did gaze with deep amaze at those fearless men, but few who bore the fight that freedom's light might shine through the foggy dew.

Lang or Lit? Either way, I had terrific teachers for both, so I loved both classes. Hang in there! Not having to take English in college was HUGE for me in many ways. It went like this: No freshman English --> used free space on schedule to take PLAN 201 --> which is prerequisite for transferring into urban planning --> which was about the only way I could hop the fast track out of architecture, which was killing me and my GPA (and as a bonus I enjoyed urban planning). Not having to wait a semester to get into urban planning meant I could still graduate on time. Being able to graduate on time meant I didn't have to take an extra semester or two of the Navy's money through ROTC, which means I only have to spend four years in the Navy if I want to as opposed to five or six. All because of AP English. Honest. Moral of the story: the more credit you can bring with you to school, the better.

Tony Delk had a 50-point game once....he's a decent scorer but he's running about 362nd on the list of most likely people to drop 50 on someone.

They took back one that Sheed got a little while ago, and one of his T's was for hanging on the rim, which doesn't count toward the 16 for suspension. And I think they will probably take back the one he got for laughing out loud. Good lord, I've never heard of a sillier T.

Nothing so far on the Tigers, but I think that's a good thing....does anyone else think the contracts going to guys who only pitch one inning every other game or so, are ridiculous?? B.J. Ryan got absolutely stupid money. Free agent closers are bad news. Looks like there are some candidates out there to fill Jason Johnson's spot in the rotation....Kevin Millwood, Carl Pavano, and A.J. Burnett are the names most mentioned. Not sure I'd be pleased with Pavano or Burnett.....Pavano spurned the Tigers already, sold his soul to the devil (signed with the Yankees) with tongue hanging out and dollar signs in the eyes....and now he wants out. He's not even that amazing a pitcher....taking on that contract is too much, if you ask me. And Burnett wants too much money also. Millwood might make sense, but he's no ace....he's a quality second starter if you've got someone better, as the Braves always did. Barry Zito looks like a candidate to be traded, and I'd love to see him on the Tigers, but Billy Beane is a sharp, sharp dealer in that sort of trade. I can just see Justin Verlander packing his bags for Oakland in that deal. The only time you can get a good trade out of Beane is when you catch him dealing a minor-leaguer that doesn't fit his Moneyball worldview. The only reason the Tigers got Bonderman out of him is because Bonderman was drafted behind Beane's back, and he was furious about it.....he doesn't spend top picks on high-schoolers. And who will not be a Tiger next season? Jason Johnson and Rondell White are as good as gone. Tigers might have to give Carlos Pena and/or Craig Monroe up in a trade. I'd hate to see Monroe leave....steady player who quietly puts up nice numbers. Could the Tigers trade Pudge? I hope not...I think he can still be Pudge, and I like seeing Inge at third base.....trading Pudge would require Inge to move back to catcher, where his hitting WILL suffer, and open up a hole at third.

"He's a thief, and a liar, and a devil, and all that's bad, from this night forth! Ain't that enough for the old wretch, without blows?" "If that is what the law supposes, then the law is a ass, a idiot. If that be the eyes of the law, then the law is a bachelor. And the worst I wish the law is that its eyes be opened by experience - by experience!" "If I shake and tremble, as we pass the gallows, don't you mind, but hurry on. Now, now, now! Press on. Softly, but not so slow. Faster, faster!"

Yes, but I think the person receiving has to give proof of age otherwise the courier is not supposed to hand over the goods.
