I had my wisdom tooth pulled today. The local anesthetic made me feel like I'd been punched in the mouth. Now I can't have any milk or pop or beer tonight - which eliminates everything I've got in my fridge

I thought of that once. I decided to ignore it because things like that make my head hurt. Also it would have been tough to explain to the boss. "Sorry sir, I can't come into work because I'm stuck in an infinite loop of posting on a Red Wings fan board."

    Michigan Is Back!

"That's alright, that's okay, you will work for us one day!" I don't mind being called arrogant for the schools I cheer for. I'll trade that in order to be able to chant "Safety School" at Virginia Tech

http://www.wavy.com/Global/story.asp?S=4525071 Above is the link to the WAVY-TV website with the story of the RIDICULOUS amount of accidents on I-64 that I mentioned above. One hundred fifteen fricking accidents. 115. CXV. I found this link on Drudge. That's right.....the utter ineptitude of Virginia drivers who can't handle the simple task of driving to and/or from Richmond during a few flurries has made NATIONAL NEWS. Way to go, Hampton Roads. Haha, maybe they should change the name of the region from Hampton Roads to Hampton Deadly Patches Of Water On The Overpasses.

    Post Everytime You Look

OK, it's rant time. Sit down and shut up for a sec. So we got some snow this morning, here in Norfolk, right? Snowed for about two hours, like say, 5:30 to 7:30 or so. Mind you, it was 70 degrees on Friday, so the ground isn't exactly cold....we didn't even get, say, a quarter inch of accumulation. More like a dusting. Hell, that's not even accurate, somewhere in between a sprinkling and a dusting, OK? Look, there out the window, it's gone already, two hours later. So we're not talking, like, epic blizzard here. So I'm driving home this morning, and I flip on the traffic. I already know I'm not taking the freeway. Mu'fu##as in this city panic when it snows. Snowflake! Slam on the brakes! It's like their brain is hard-wired for 30 MPH, max, with the slightest hint of precipitation. So as I'm listening to the traffic, you'd think got-dam civilization was collapsing. On an 80-mile stretch of I-64, between New Kent County and Virginia Beach, they are reporting more than one hundred accidents. Are you fugging serious? ONE HUNDRED?? More than? You mean to say, because it was snowing (and believe you me, it was only snowing, it wasn't SNOWING, or snowing, or even windy. Just regular flurry-snow), there are nearly two accidents every mile??? And they haven't even gotten into what's happening on I-264, 464, 564, or 664 yet. Now it's time to list the bridges. Norfolk has lots of drawbridges, so normally the traffic report lists bridge opening times. Today, we have a list of bridge closings due to wrecks, and wouldn't you know, it's all of them. Now the side street accidents, and it takes another three minutes to list them all. And let's finish up with the school delays. Guess it's hard for the school buses to zigzag their way through the wrecks. Honest Injun, there are more cars wrecked out there than tow trucks in the whole city. Frickin' auto body shop owners are down on their knees just praisin' the Lawd and begging Him for another snow. Ten years from now people are gonna talk about the Great Blizzard of '06. "Yep, it was so bad, I had ta slam on them brakes, right thar in the middle of the Gilmerton Bridge! Flipped mah pore ol' Corolla right on its side. Fella next ta me swerved to avoid a snowflake and put his car into th'concrete barrier." I have never seen a city full of bigger idiot drivers. I swear I cannot wait to live back up north where you can get ten inches of snow and people carry on smartly. Meantime, I need to buy me a beater POS, like a $600 rustbucket '91 Jetta, go driving in the snow, coax it up to 55, and rear-end the next dumb-ass in a Lexus whose brake lights go on at the first sign of something falling from the sky.

    Pistons trade Darko.

J.J. Redick is a senior and the pick isn't til 2007 (and even then, it's top-five protected, so #6 is the best the Pistons can do in '07). Might not get the pick til 2008. It's a straight-up cap space trade. If the Knicks are interested in Cato, that only fits with their track record of acquiring useless players with huge contracts that always get hurt. Here come the pundits laughing it up at the Pistons for wasting the 2nd rounder on Darko. But if the Pistons had Wade, Carmelo, or Bosh, they'd probably be getting traded right about now anyway, because they'd never have made a name for themselves the way the Pistons have rolled since the Darko pick.

Huh. The only thing that kept this deal from happening two days ago was the hassle over how protected the first rounder would be. Now it gets bumped back to 07 no matter what? That's kind of a bummer. I know the trade makes sense from every angle, especially the make-sure-Chauncey-and-Ben-are-Pistons-for-life angle (fairly important) but I sure hate having to wait til the 07 draft to see results. Now, let's watch Darko blossom into a 20-10 All-Star machine and lift the Magic to a playoff berth next year god I hope not.

The only reason Dumars will go out and get another point guard for the rotation is if Chauncey or Hunter gets hurt. They don't have any need to spend the money, unless they drag somebody in from the D-League on a 10-day contract. We'll need to hope Orlando improves marginally. Even if Dumars gets his way and gets the pick protected only to the fifth or so, Orlando is still fifth worst in the league.

    Detroit Pistons Season Thread

According to the Detroit News, the pick, as discussed by Dumars and Orlando, would not be protected through the whole lottery, but up to around fifth or seventh. Right now, Orlando is fifth worst, but of course, the lottery shakes up the order somewhat. A team can't fall further than three slots, so eighth is the worst they could be if the season ended today. Orlando needs this deal more than Detroit does. The Pistons already have enough cap space to keep Ben happy - that's why they made the Corliss-for-Derrick Coleman deal last year. And there's plenty of teams they could trade Darko to for more cap space. The Magic, meanwhile, want Steve Francis out of town pronto and that's easier to do if they have Arroyo. Cato has been hurt all year and is worthless to them. And as with all protected picks, the Pistons don't simply lose the pick if it's protected - it rolls over to next year with less protection. The Pistons don't need a first rounder next year (they don't currently have one), because they've got three very young guys already that they like to develop. Bottom line of all that is that the Pistons have the chips in this deal and can work Orlando into a corner on the issue of protecting that pick. Hell, all Joe D. has to do is say: "Me, 41-9. You, 19-30. Status quo: good for me, bad for you." It'd be great to fall into a nice top-10 pick, and Joe D. knows how to do it. Wouldn't J.J. Redick or Rudy *** look sharp in a Detroit jersey?

    Detroit Pistons Season Thread

Kelvin Cato would be about $8.5 million worth of cap space. Dumars would shake hands with the Magic on the trade and be waiving Cato bye-bye with the other. A little something extra for signing Ben Wallace with, as well as for signing the first-rounder they'd now have from Orlando. And the Magic suck, so unless the pick is protected up to a certain point, it'll be a nice high one. A lottery one for sure. Basically look at it like this: We free up playing time for Lindsey Hunter by dumping Arroyo, who I think does a decent job, but nothing Hunter couldn't do (and less defense besides). Darko's not playing anyway, so the thing to do there is cut the losses and head back to the draft with a lottery pick from a crummy team to try again. Plus cap space for signing Big Ben, obviously it would be the stupidest thing in the world to let him walk. As a small added bonus, Acker, Maxiell, and Johnson get a little extra practice time against the big boys and move up slightly in the pecking order. And where the Magic would be picking, man, you can find some good stuff in the draft up that high.
