yeah, the Lions are probably gonna be 3-7 going into that one and pull off a shocker against Atlanta (they always pull something ridiculous off right around this time of year) causing all the newspapers to work out all the impossible scenarios that could put the Lions in the playoffs.

Suns tonight. Important game, even though the Suns are without Amare. The Wizards lost last night, so the Pistons are now the only undefeated team left in the NBA....lets see how long they can keep that up. It'll be tough with the run-and-gun Suns tonight and then a flight to Portland to take on the Jail Blazers tomorrow. By the way, what about the new-look Tayshaun? He has definitely added some muscle, you can see in some pictures of him....he's no longer a stringbean. Watching highlights of the Sacramento game, I didn't even realize it was him with the ball til I saw that distinctive lefty jump shot with the elbows pointed every which way.

Hehe. Excellent point. But I'm really pleased with the response from the Kings...apologies from the Maloofs and the president of their operations, and full-page ads in the News and Freep. The Kings are likely to be fined by the league, as they should be, but it's nice to see the Kings run a decent enough organization to issue a public mea culpa, and doing so before the league announces any punishment. Terrell Owens take note.

Status on Grigorenko and Helm...
betterREDthandead replied to ProfessorLidstrom5's topic in Prospects
With the kind of accident he had and the recovery process, there's no way to set a concrete plan up....you just set milestones and goals and take action once he reaches them. The Wings aren't "undecided", that's just a short word to show that they don't know how the season will go. They probably already at least know what the decision will be based on. -
You have to remember that coverage of the whole offseason went like this: "Miami Indiana Miami Indiana Miami Indiana Miami Indiana Miami Indiana Miami Indiana Miami Indiana Miami Indiana Miami Indiana Miami Indiana Miami Indiana Miami Indiana Miami Indiana Miami Indiana Miami Indiana Miami Indiana Miami Indiana Miami Indiana Miami Indiana Miami Indiana and San Antonio is the defending champion." so of course they think it's news that the Pistons didn't just give the hell up. and I'm still mad about the Sacramento pregame stunt.
-
Anybody who complains they didn't get fireworks for a personal milestone deserves to be fired. The Lions should keep Mooch as coach if only to guarantee they never have to put up with this a**hole. Although I understand he can't play home games in domed stadiums.....his ego doesn't fit.

grrrrrr I read about that. #(%&@ Sacramento. Whoever did that should be taken on a tour of Detroit's nicest areas.....then dropped off at 1 AM with wads of cash glued to his chest at Mack and Conner. Nice to see Maurice Evans get plenty of minutes and make a solid contribution against the team that didn't want him back.

Yes, but our top prospects are still playing in the AHL, OHL, Sweden, etc, while those teams that are considered to have the best prospects already have them with the big club.

I just took the drafting of Howard as a sign that the Wings were starting to sour on Liv just a little. Could also be the can-never-have-too-many-goalies syndrome, but then, Howard has moved quickly up the ranks, and the Wings haven't been in a big hurry to sign Liv. Trade bait? Sure, why not. Liv will be 25 this year, however, and for an unsigned prospect, is getting up there in years.
-
Absolutely....with a contending team like the Wings, you don't need to be rolling the dice on untried talent. Legace and/or Osgood will be around a while. Bring Howard and Liv along slowly but surely. I wonder, though, if drafting Howard when they did means the Wings' focus is moving away from Liv? I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Wings cut Liv loose, especially if Howard impresses them.

I dunno...I just have my doubts. Maybe he just snapped or something, but with the kind of public figure he and his mom have been (and the incident happened at his mother's house) my initial thought is that somebody else sees a chance at some easy $$$.... We'll see.

Terrell Owens suspended indefinitely
betterREDthandead replied to betterREDthandead's topic in Other Sports
I just think it's funny that he accuses the Eagles organization of having a "lack of class". Good lord dude, did you ever watch yourself score a touchdown? I still think one of the best things ever to happen in his career (and it pains me to say this cause I hate the Cowboys) was one of the Cowboys being insulted at Owens second trip to the star to bask in his own glory, and belting him as hard as possible. -
Terrell Owens suspended indefinitely
betterREDthandead replied to betterREDthandead's topic in Other Sports
Eagles have announced now that Owens is deactivated for the season....much like the Keyshawn situation in Tampa a couple years ago, only earlier. I hope Owens catches on with the Bears, Vikings, or Packers so he can leave that team and organization in shambles too. -
pleh. put the wraps on this season....6-10 here we come. I just want to scream.....what Fates did the Lions piss off to have EVERY SINGLE impact player miss games for one reason or another?? seems like it, anyway. Jeff Garcia, Roy Williams, Charles Rogers, Kevin Johnson, Dre Bly, Shaun Rogers, Teddy Lehman, Fernando Bryant, Eddie Drummond. Jeff Backus has been playing hurt. Boss Bailey's still recovering from last year. Mike Williams has been playing hurt. Now Kevin Jones leaves the game! This is not entirely the fault of Joey or Mooch....a reasonably healthy Lions team would be 5-3 right now and in front of the division. I'm still driving the Trade For Matt Schaub bandwagon and I'm drafting off of the much larger Bench Joey bandwagon.

Terrell Owens suspended indefinitely
betterREDthandead replied to betterREDthandead's topic in Other Sports
But that's exactly his problem. According to the boys on Sunday NFL Countdown, one of the biggest things that got TO pissed off was McNabb saying before the Super Bowl, "We're preparing like he's not going to be out there and if he is, that's a bonus." And TO was insulted by that! What's McNabb supposed to say? Terrell Owens destroys teams, plain and simple. His production on the field isn't worth it. He destroyed the promising-looking 49ers, tore them apart. He'll do the same to the Eagles if they let him play again....and if he hasn't already. -
Seems like the Pistons were just toying with the Raptors. Most nights, the Pistons will be able to exploit a mismatch like Tayshaun last night, because if the opponent double-teams, who do they leave open? Chauncey? Rip? Sheed? And the bench is just as well-rounded as the starting five.

One of these days, there will be an athlete who comes out, makes a big media announcement of it, and the Jackie Robinson comparisons will begin. All the columnists will gush about what a courageous move it was to come out. Spare me. And by the way, the Sheryl Swoopes thing isn't making waves....not because she's a woman and it's somehow more acceptable for lesbians than gays, but because nobody really gives a flying rip about the WNBA.

I wish we could draft Marcus Vick, he is a better passer than his brother and even though he has his off the field problems in the past, if he can keep his nose clean he could be a very valuable player in the NFL. ugh...like I said I don't like the idea of having to start from scratch again...which you do with any QB you draft no matter what the talent. but even worse....two Hokies, and at the two most visible positions no less?? we need Schaub in part to balance out Kevin Jones.
-
sigh...our only hope this game is that the Vikings are sorrier than we are....and Daunte's out. I've officially begun the Trade For Matt Schaub bandwagon. Anybody in? It's official in my book: we can't win with Joey, and we can't be trying to draft and develop yet another Next Franchise Quarterback....we need somebody's whose major-league talent is being wasted as a backup somewhere, and who has already spent some time developing in the League. Besides, I'm a UVA fan.

Detroit Pistons (and NBA) Playoff Thread
betterREDthandead replied to Cruiser008's topic in Other Sports
Sheed may not, but against the Heat, someone will always have a big game. The Heat can't matchup on defense. Keyon Dooling should get more minutes replacing Damon Jones, but neither one can defend Chauncey. Wade is a sensational player when he gets the chance (and one day, he will make his own chances), so when he goes off, the Heat will win. But he won't do it four times. -
Detroit Pistons (and NBA) Playoff Thread

This should be fun. The Heat can't match up at all with the Pistons while the Pistons have the ball. Their best defender is Shaq, and what do we care, because he's stuck on Ben, who won't have the ball. Shaq can't guard Sheed because Sheed will just fire away from 3. As Sheed displayed, they can't really guard him. Dwyane Wade has to guard Tayshaun, and he can't - Tayshaun abused him. But he'd do even better if guarded by someone else. And Chauncey can torch Damon Jones, as can Rip. The Pistons will win because the Heat can't match up - somebody on the Pistons is going to have a huge game every night. And great defense beats great offense anytime, anywhere, so Wade might get his looks, but not often enough. ESPN put it this way: Maybe Wade made it look so easy against New Jersey and Washington because it was so easy; the Pistons are the defending champs for a reason. -
