WCQF GAME 4 GDT: Red Wings 6 at Blue Jackets 5

Lemme know if it's gonna rain or be sunny tomorrow. I'm gonna need my umbrella if you say sunny.

It's official: CBJ fans are the dumbest in sports

Well hell, that'd be all the motivation I need to root for the Jackets next year

I think this speaks more to the average intelligence level of the typical HF board fan rather than the Jacket fan specifically.

I was actually also thinking the same thing as I typed. Finally deciding in Game 4 that more than one player should score a goal isn't a winning formula. I can't think of any reason the Jackets didn't deserve to get swept. The Wings got a couple fortuitous bounces but they were all from playing Wings hockey: shooting and crashing the net.

You predicted the Jackets would win, and instead they got swept. Good call! And you'll be right next time and anyone should ever pay attention to you ..... why?

Oh I forgot: also the CLS announcers kept saying how the Jackets didn't deserve for it to end like that. That was kind of a common theme too. Which is funny because if you don't hustle yourself off the ice or pay attention to how many you've got out there, you definitely deserve to be on the penalty kill.

They stopped just short of saying it wasn't. They had the little dots counting the players and it couldn't have been clearer there were six and they knew it, but they kept on saying things like "can't believe the refs let them play the whole period and didn't call any penalties and now this what a tough call tough way to end the series etc. etc." Not like it was some chintzy obstruction or hooking or something. It's like one of the few penalties that involves no judgment call whatsoever. I couldn't decide whether that or Chimera's temper tantrum was funnier. I have no idea what he was pissing and moaning about.

They purposely didn't show the ice on the CLS feed. Now I know why. I figured there was an octopus. (Might have been one of those too.)

LOL at the Jackets' announcers for sure. They so so so so wanted to call it a bad call - kept saying things like "tough call" (they repeated that one a lot) - but the evidence was plain as day.

    2009 Detroit Tigers Season Thread

Yeah, I'll stay up for a playoff game at 10, not a regular season baseball game in April

    Next opponent

    Montreal

Someone still needs to take care of the Bruins soon though. As long as I'm living in New England surrounded by Boston fans I can't be having these Boston teams winning championships. It makes me barf.

There's already such a thing as Comcast SportsNet, it's Comcast's version of FSN.

    Detroit Lions 2009 Thread

So, supposedly, the Lions have a deal with Aaron Curry for less money than what Jake Long was paid last year....BUT - they are still negotiating with Stafford, and his agent is holding out. Curry would be the pick if they can't get a deal done with Stafford. (Hooray for ******* agents.) The Lions actually have a lot of leverage here especially if they've gotten Curry to sign for about $32-33 million guaranteed or so. If the Lions don't get Stafford, he'll drop at least to 4th overall barring a trade-up, and Darren McFadden got paid $26 million last year. Condon could be costing Stafford $10 million by holding out like that. And then he'd better hope the Seahawks don't like Sanchez better, in which case who knows how far Stafford could drop. If I were a betting man I'd guess Stafford ends up with a contract very similar to Long's instead of something in the $40 million range. And Lions fans end up with the second total failure of a quarterback in a decade.

    Calder Finalists Announced

It'll be Lidstrom, Green, and somebody who doesn't stand a snowball's chance. Not much drama there. The Hart and Selke nominees are going to be more worth watching.

Man, that one left a mess. Must not have been boiled.

    Wings Will Lose Why?

Much like the Statue of Liberty, Lidstrom's center ice goal against Cloutier, or McLennan's lumberjack chop, that will be the defining image I take from this series. Absolutely hilarious.

    Okay why?!

That's because said 6-time Norris Trophy winner was a 0-time Norris Trophy winner when the list was published in 1998.

Columbus Columnist: Osgood is Wings' Weak Link

You know what the really brilliant part about this is? Ozzie made two or three really excellent saves last night that kept the Jackets from making a game of it. But we're getting either Vancouver or Anaheim in the next round, and those two goalies have been turning in multiple 40+ save games. Meanwhile the Wings have shut down the Jackets' offense. So everyone's going to say our opponent has the advantage in net, and Ozzie's gonna stay pissed off and outplay the other guy just to prove a point.

You forgot the part where their young energetic kids are going to skate circles around the old farts.

Blue Jackets on alert for Octopi

No. They can talk all they want about it but frankly, when it comes down to it, arena security is in the hands of Frankie the underpaid rent-a-cop. He's no match for a determined Wings fan.

Blue Jackets on alert for Octopi

Not only is it one of the greatest in hockey, it's probably the best playoff tradition in all of professional sports. It's fan-created and fan-driven and immediately identifies the Wings. What on earth could be better?

WCQF GAME 3 GDT: Red Wings 4, Blue Jackets 1

Disagree....I was thinking to myself during the game, there's a big difference between this series and the Dallas series last year (you know, in case anyone is worried about going up 3-0.) Dallas looked flat, bored, and disinterested in the first three games, but they had a switch to flip. Columbus's problem isn't that they're unmotivated and lifeless, it's that they suck.
