WCQF GAME 3 GDT: Red Wings 4, Blue Jackets 1

Eh, it was a powerplay....sometimes that happens. I'm not worried, at least not for the remainder of this series, however short that may be. Columbus' power play is 100% pure Colombian dogs***.

It must have been some kind of preemptive curse, cause Commodore's been quite possibly the worst player this series for the BJ's. Touching the octopus cements it.

Good win. Little rougher around the edges than the last two but that's playoff hockey on the road for ya.

Uh, why not? From a business perspective, the league has expanded, they got the salary cap they wanted, revenues keep on going up and keep on going up. If he was bad for business, the owners would get rid of him. It shouldn't be too hard to see what Bettman's focus is. When he's asked about the success of the league (like in the first interview) the first thing he talks about is revenue. Because that's his metric. That's the window through which he views the league.

    They aren't saying that.

You said it. How nice of Commodore to forget entirely about hockey fundamentals like "playing defense" and "the other four guys on the ice besides the one you're mauling."

I wouldn't. They might have a goal in that case.

I'm a numbnuts. I've had TiVo for like two years now and I'm TiVoing the game, and I missed the first two minutes including the Wings first goal. And I was like, damn, I wonder what happened. And it didn't occur to me until the intermission began to use the damn TiVo for exactly the purpose it was put on God's green earth for.

What would happen if a player threw an octopus?

It would almost certainly be a delay of game penalty.

BJ's think shakeup, matchup can make the difference.

The emotion of coming back to the home arena for the first home playoff game in franchise history makes this pretty dangerous. But Vermette on the first line, getting most of the ice time? Sweet. That guy's been a penalty machine, he's committed two penalties in each game so far.

Sweet. More ice time for Vermette = more power play time for Wings.

    Detroit Lions 2009 Thread

Aundray Bruce would seem like a great reason NOT to pick a linebacker - that being the last time a team picked a linebacker first overall. Doesn't matter though. As long as they don't pick a quarterback. With McCoy and Tebow and probably Bradford being eligible next year, all of whom are better than Stafford right now, it'd be stupid and short-sighted to take a QB this year. The Lions are still going to have a top-five pick next year and somebody better will fall into their lap.

First ever NHL playoff game in the state of Ohio unless I'm missing some bit of obscure trivia. Kinda cool the Wings are part of the history. Now it's time to ruin it for the home crowd.

Ahh. Well, the numbers are a little weird, but I could get used to them. The News article implied the jersey would lose the stripes and get "more refined piping" which to me sounds awful because I hate piping except on baseball jerseys. There's no piping there. And the pant stripes are an improvement - I hated how they just slapped black outlines on the old stripes, it looked really dumb. I can live with this.

It's driving me crazy that they describe the new unis in the articles but don't post pictures. Honestly it doesn't sound promising. I like block numbers.

So, the leaked logo is the logo, and what Matt put up is 98% accurate, except for some added detail on the fringes of the mane and more detailed claws, which basically just wouldn't have come through on the small resolution stuff that was there to work with.

Allow myself to introduce myself !?!?!?!?

Frankly, keeping that franchise alive and in Pittsburgh is an accomplishment in and of itself. It would have been very easy, and financially profitable, to book it for Kansas City, and most owners would have done it. And then LGWers would have lumped Pittsburgh in with Winnipeg and Hartford as places "where hockey belongs" where Bettman destroyed hockey so he could have more teams in the South.

    lines next season?

There is no next season in the playoffs. Only the next game.

    The Ducks

"The next few rounds".....well that's encouraging, I certainly hope he doesn't take more than four or five rounds to get off his cloud. Then again, there won't be a "next few rounds" for Hiller if the Sharks take it in 7, will there

So today we learn how badly they messed up the uniforms and if the leaked logo is in fact the actual logo. (It probably is.)

Sportsnet's Roger Millions swears on live TV

OK I gotta admit, I was gonna break out the sarcasm....."zomg zoicks he said the S word lollerskates haha rofflecopter".....was definitely not expecting that. That was excellent. I wish I could hear the conversation between the boss and the reporter after that one.

    2009 Detroit Tigers Season Thread

I gotta say I'm pleasantly surprised about the offense. It's been more productive than I thought it'd be. The pitching has been respectable - if Verlander can get properly on track, the team looks good enough at least to contend for the division all the way through September.

Columbus Columnist: Osgood is Wings' Weak Link

Stringing together words to make sentences is like doctorate level stuff in Columbus, so whenever that happens, they publish it. Somebody needs to show this to Ozzie, stat. The more stuff like this happens, the better he plays. One more "Osgood is shaky" column and the next game will end up Detroit 5, Columbus -1.
