Very good point about Red and Mason. (Although you sort of contradict yourself by diminishing Bo's accomplishments in the Big Ten as having come in the Big 2/Little 8 era while praising Red and Mason for doing the same thing in the CCHA.) But you have to remember: Bo didn't care one bit about the bowl games. His thing was: Beat Ohio State, win the Big Ten. That was the overarching goal for Michigan football. Only in later years, like the '80s, did Bo start to really work on the bowls, because the boosters kind of made him. But he used to see the Rose Bowl as the vacation you earned for beating Ohio State. As for Yost, believe me, most of the games he played weren't the high school, exhibition team variety. It was actual Big Ten football even back then, and Yost owned it. He regularly beat up on Amos Alonzo Stagg at Chicago, for example. I don't think you can judge him by the standards of today with national championships and whatnot because it was a different era - which he dominated.

Correct....though beating NFL and MLB teams isn't really a fair comparison.

After all this time, I think the Wings really need to get with the times and update their look. Perhaps they could add something with black in it for the intimidation factor. Red is fine and they could keep it as an accent color, but it's gotten old. I think a black home jersey, change the logo, and maybe a red third jersey just for throwback's sake would be best. Lose the outdated look and get with the times. For too long, they've looked like a team from the 1950's. Old-time used to look good, but this is the 21st century. Or, they could add a black and silver third jersey to help with merchandise sales. Long overdue for this, if you ask me. So, what do you think?

John Cooper Actually, Bo was great, but Fielding Yost should probably rank above Bo. And Izzo would have honestly a very long way to go IMO to catch up to Scotty.

It wasn't only the quick whistle that pissed me off. It was also the fact that earlier in the game, Miami got a goal by jamming and jamming at a puck that Hunwick basically had covered up, until the ref let them pry it loose and put it in the net. Ridiculously inconsistent. Add those two together and it's total bulls***.

Bingo. Given the choice between allowing a quality chance at the net and causing a faceoff in the zone, they'll take the faceoff every time. Being allowed to ice the puck during a PK balances out the equation a bit....it's already about a one-in-five chance you'll be scored on anyway. Least likely thing to ever happen. The owners aren't going to spend money in the short-term doing something that will cost them even more money in the long-term.

If the NHL returns. I hope they do. It's not good for anybody if they don't. If they do, USA will have largely the same team in place, that can only be a good thing.

Yeah, a one-year deal for Damon isn't a bad thing at all. Hell, pay him 40 mil if it's just for a year, I don't care. Means you don't have any long-term messes going forward. I like it.

Makes the game even more interesting than if it was the gold-medal game.....winner will probably still be considered front-runner for the gold, but the loser gets no silver, no bronze.....nothing. I think that definitely makes it must-see hockey.

That is definitely not how it looks from the American perspective. Looked to me like about nine Canadian players all about seven feet tall firing the puck out of howitzers at Miller while USA swatted fruitlessly at the puck, thanks to the blue line force field. One goal leads have a way of distorting perspective.

They said Germany will be Canada's matchup next. I don't think I'd want to be Germany.
