What is the rules on Crease viloations?

No wonder Tomas Sandstrom retired. It's actually the little-known Rule 96. It states "Any player wearing #96 and a jersey with red on it is a distraction to the goaltender. Such player(s) will not approach the crease, the goaltender, put his stick or his ass in any area within 20 feet of the goaltender, or throw the goaltender a dirty look that might cause intimidation and fright. A two-minute penalty for obstruction will be assessed in this event."

That sounds pretty close to a definition of famous right there.

    2008-09 College Hoops Thread

Anyone catch the UM-MTech game yesterday? If there's any doubt Manny Harris is one of the best players in the Big Ten, I'd say it was mostly erased yesterday, although I'll hold off judging the offense til they play a D-I opponent (tonight against Northeastern.)

No Doubt: It's a Cup Hangover

Like others said....only to an extent. A better indication of poor defensive play is a good save percentage with a poor GAA.

    Most Boring Champions

There's no way of either confirming or denying this since it's rooted in bias, but I suspect you (and the rest of us) would feel differently if we weren't actively rooting for him. I mean, when Lidstrom takes the ice, nobody is holding their breath waiting for him to do something spectacular. Every shift is more or less the same. That's where his greatness lies.

    Burke out as Ducks' GM

Maybe the Ducks will go back to not being a dirty hockey team now.

how to get this team back on track.

Swapping out 6th defensemen is not exactly a "roster shakeup".

    Most Boring Champions

Nick Lidstrom is boring. There's nothing wrong with that, but he is the least flashy, least controversial player in a sport that doesn't have a lot of controversial characters. That takes some doing.

We just melt down over different things. You should have seen the trade deadline before the Stuart trade went down.

No Doubt: It's a Cup Hangover

In 82 games, bad ones are bound to happen. It's the coaches' job to stamp out that kind of effort, but fans have got to realize that a six month season is a guarantee of seeing games like that. Otherwise you're going to spend your whole time hating the team.

    The Pittsburgh Penguins...

I'd rather have a Cup and no respect, than respect and no Cup.

No Doubt: It's a Cup Hangover

I agree there's a Cup hangover, but I believe it will pass. I think we're seeing teams give a better effort against the Wings than they did last October and November, because we have the Cup now. By January that'll stop as the grind of the season wears on teams. Patience. Babcock will have this under control. Oh, and we're 9-2-3 with a figurative smashing headache, slight nausea, and blurry eyes. 9-2-3. Just wait til we get those raw eggs down.

What are you reading right now?

Finally finished Les Mis. I can't remember the last time it took me a month to read a book, except for in English class when you weren't supposed to read ahead. It's nice to have a book I enjoy and yet don't blow through in three days or less. Time to break into another big-ass classic along those lines - I think I'll go either reread Great Expectations (it's been years) or Nicholas Nickleby, which I haven't read.

2008-2009 NBA Season Thread (Pistons trade for Allen Iverson)

I dunno, Tay was like 4-15 shooting against the Nets the other night. But I like Curry's idea of having him out there leading the reserve unit. I don't think there's a bench player in the league that can guard him. Was glad to see there was a roaring ovation for Iverson. Detroit fans are good like that. Same as with Sheed, if AI comes in and plays his ass off like he does, Pistons fans appreciate that more than any other fans in the league. Players can come to Detroit with a clean slate.

    What is this?!

I'm sure it looks fine sitting atop something other than Messier's ugly mug.

The Official 2008 Detroit Lions Thread

God I can't wait to see Marinelli's ass fired. I'm sick of this whole coaching staff, especially Rod and Joe Barry. What a bunch of hacks. Marinelli is a slightly better coach than Marty Mornhinweg, which is like saying Charlie Weis isn't quite as fat as Mark Mangino. I will be pissed if any single one of these coaches still has a job with the team next year.

Has Sundin lowered his price and are the Wings a possibility?

We've already got the bullseye. I don't see how Sundin would somehow make it worse. There's nothing wrong with having a s*** ton of good players.

Has Sundin lowered his price and are the Wings a possibility?

I know you have an explanation, but....I really can't see how that could possibly be a bad thing in any way at all.

2008-2009 NBA Season Thread (Pistons trade for Allen Iverson)

I liked the press conference today. Iverson: (some clichespeak about being willing to sacrifice whatever he needed to sacrifice for the team to win a championship) Reporter (smart-alecky): Even practice? Iverson: PRACTICE?!

    12 Games in - You're Holland...

If I were Holland? I would put my feet up on the desk, smoke a cigar, count my paycheck just for kicks. Check the standings, maybe call up other GMs for a little trash talk. Polish my Cup rings. Watch Judge Judy. I'd probably look at the stat line and give myself a big ol' pat on the back for that guy on top of the points list. Because seriously, Lebda for a 3rd rounder? Any GM who cared to come on here would see the beating he takes and decide the Wings should have to pay to take him off their hands. Now all of a sudden he's worth a high draft pick?

Predict the Detroit Lions 1st win

I am. Well, I don't really care how the Shock do. But a lot of Wings fans don't live in Detroit, either. People like NFM live where there's no hockey team but they're close to a football team that isn't the Lions.
