2008-2009 NBA Season Thread (Pistons trade for Allen Iverson)

Or LeBron James! I'm with you man....the more I think about it the more I like it. Especially if it means we can clear Dice's rather large salary off the books and then get him back for a lot less....that's a nasty good move right there. Vintage Joe Dumars. I love me some Chauncey Billups, and it's a real bummer to see him go. And those who are worried about Chauncey's skills deteriorating might want to remember, AI is 33 and in his 13th season, so it's not like we got any younger. But as much as we love Chauncey, seriously, Allen Iverson for Chauncey straight up is what this is looking like - and AI has the expiring contract. That's a winner of a move. And like I said earlier the timing is perfect. AI doesn't have that ring, and now he's got a shot at getting it. Boston better watch out. If Iverson has the ball in Game 7 and thinks the Celtics stand between him and that ring, then it's on. Iverson's been kinda selfish at times throughout his career, but you can't doubt his competitive fire, and this isn't the first time Joe D. has traded for him (or tried to), which says something. In the end, if he's Joe Dumars' kind of player, then he's mine too. Edit: The Nugs roll into town in March. Chauncey deserves nothing less than a roaring standing O when the time comes and I expect him to get it. One thing (of many) that I like about Detroit fans is we always show our appreciation for our former players like Chauncey and Pudge.

2008-2009 NBA Season Thread (Pistons trade for Allen Iverson)

Sheed wasn't supposed to fit in here in Detroit either. We will see. I am not a huge fan of the trade, but I like it much better if we can get Dice back. I think Dice + Billups > Iverson, but if we re-sign Dice, that's probably a win. Besides, Joe D. has unquestionably earned the right to make moves like this without second-guessing. I trust Dumars 200%. The guy is brilliant. We've gotten to the point with the Wings where if they take a Swedish guy with the last pick, we assume there must be something to it just because it's the Wings and Hakan Andersson making the call. Same with Joe D. He always makes the right moves. I've always had mixed feelings on AI anyway. Sure, there's the "PRACTICE?!" side of him. That's the questionable side. But make no mistake about this either - the guy always, always, plays his guts out on the floor. There's never any doubt about his effort. Detroiters always appreciate that. I think he's coming to the Pistons at the right time in his career to make an impact. I hate losing Chauncey but I'm glad for him that he's getting a second chance with the hometown team.

Capitals' Semin not Impressed by Crosby

The hype has nothing to do with why Crosby would be expensive to obtain.

Capitals' Semin not Impressed by Crosby

Seriously, what is this board's occupation with Sidney Crosby? Why all the bitterness? Would you trade the Cup for all that media attention? No? So why not get over it?

    2008 College Football Thread

They hate their old ball coach. A Michigan fan giving props to Cooper sounds to their ears like a Packers fan giving props to Matt Millen. You thought wrong then. Michigan hired him to win Big Ten championships, with the general expectation that it wasn't going to happen this year. Anyone whose expectation is to win national championships, plural, is setting themselves up for failure.

Center Ice Commercial, Makes Me Sick

I don't like the commercial (in fact I was saying to my dad the other day that they ought to change it around since Wings fans are probably a huge part of the Center Ice market.) HOWEVA - it is A MILLION JILLION BAZILLION times better than those Puckheads commercials they showed last year. Besides, let's get real. Anyone who would fork out the $$$ for Center Ice knows what happened in the series. Especially Pens fans, who have to look and realize how empty the guy's celebrations are.

Who was/is your all time favourite goalie?

Jeez.....I forgot the Beezer. Don't know how I could forget John Vanbiesbrouck. Not Ozzie-level, but still. Definitely awesome.

Who was/is your all time favourite goalie?

Ozzie. No question. Nobody's even close. But I always liked Tim Cheveldae growing up too. I remember the News had a picture of him on the ice at the Joe with an old Chevy, '57 or some such year, which I thought was the neatest thing, and was kind of a Cheveldae fan after that.

The Official 2008 Detroit Lions Thread

Well, most moves have a purpose that I can tell. They might be bad moves that completely fail to accomplish the purpose (hey let's go sign another old-ass washed up offensive lineman! get me Edwin Mulitalo on the line) but I get why they do it. Here, WTF? The season is over. I can understand the coach and players saying "we're not giving up, we're playing and coaching hard, we're trying to get a win, etc. etc." because it's their job to. But it's the GM's job to look at the big picture, and the big picture is, the team ******* sucks, half the roster is practice squad material, their best effort might win them two games this year. They've got two young quarterbacks, Orlovsky and Stanton, that they need to find out about so they can plan for the future because that's the only thing they've got going for them. And here they're gonna bring in a guy who's best days are behind him but is probably better than the two we've got anyway, in order to do what? Win four games instead of two? Like I said. Coaches, I understand. Players, I understand. But the front office is ******* up miserably if they are trying to take an 0-7 team and scrape out an extra win or two by bringing in a quarterback. It's not their job to do that.

    2008 College Football Thread

For me the issue isn't the record of the team. And yeah, they made a big deal, and they ought to be happy about it and so should Sparty whenever they beat Michigan. Then again, there were no t-shirts and no billboards. If Navy can refrain from doing that even after ending a 44-year streak, shouldn't Sparty be able to after ending a 7-year streak?

    2008 College Football Thread

Sparty printed a t-shirt? And put up a billboard, too. That's sad. I mean, sorry, but that's gotta be embarrassing. I know LB is happy and all about winning, but nothing says "we've never been here before and we're not sure we ever will again" like printing t-shirts and posting up billboards. I went to a school that doesn't beat its rival much any more and I wouldn't be caught dead in a t-shirt like that.

    2008 College Football Thread

Oh please. Your first win in the series in seven years and now it's "Michigan loses to everyone." We're still 8-2 against you in the last ten years and you haven't won a bowl game since, what, 2001? "MSU just wasn't that good in the Big Ten"? No, MSU just wasn't that good, period. Ever. Sheesh. This is why we hate losing to MSU. For a solid year now LB is gonna think football history began on Saturday and bring up other Michigan losses as "great days to be a Spartan" as if Sparty was somehow involved. Have a 40-season streak of winning seasons, win yourself a bowl game every once in a while, and then get back to us, K?

    2008 College Football Thread

I'm strangely not all that upset about the loss. I think this is part of the reason. Part 2 is that I was already expecting it and had pretty much written off this season as a complete loss....so I guess this is what it's like to be a Spartans fan? Only, my couch is still in my living room, unscorched Part 3 is UVA. Holy crap, I can't stop going to ESPN and looking at the standings.

    Detroit/Chicago Unveil Winter Classic Sweaters

My only complaint is that the years don't match. Oh, and that jersey didn't actually have a lace-up collar. Otherwise, freakin' sweet. THAT my friends is a retro jersey. Candy-cane stripes be damned. This is excellent. Props to the Blackhawks too.
