Good thing Michigan's never lost to a Division 2 team then. Kinda sad when the best you've got doesn't even involve your own team.
-
I suppose sometime soon, Sparty will be due for their twice-a-decade win over Michigan, since the count stands at 1 this millenium. Til then, Little Brother doesn't have the bragging rights just yet, though you wouldn't know it given all the yapping coming out of East Lansing. That's cause you're supposed to lose to Michigan.

August must be a State fan's favorite time of year: before they actually start playing the games.

It's not the cereal, it's the size of the bowl. And it's really not that big a bowl, but I always fill it up. Turns out I use about a cup and a half of cereal (which is 2 servings, so, about 360 calories.) Then add a cup of milk for 160 more, and you've got over 500 calories. Unless you're eating vapor flakes or something, most cereals, even the sugary ones, run about 175-200 calories per cup. And it's 2% for me. I can drink 1% maybe, but the calorie difference really isn't that great. It's worth more to just cut back on what I drink: one bowl of cereal instead of two, one glass with dinner instead of three. Don't even mention skim. That's not milk.

Good Christ. It's no wonder I will NEVER live in the South. Anyway, progress report. Tried the Daily Plate like I said I would, but I can't remember to do it every day. Just can't do it. Also, it doesn't really cover some of what I eat. For example, they have these really good buffalo chicken wraps in the cafeteria at work, but Daily Plate doesn't cover it. I have no idea what to enter for these things. They've got buffalo chicken wraps ranging from 300 calories all the way up to 900. (I went with 450. Wild guess.) I did measure out how much cereal I'm eating in the usual bowl. Turns out a bowl of cereal and milk is like 500 calories. Theoretically then I should lose a pound a week just by having gotten rid of that second bowl. So hopefully I'll be seeing some results from that. This week was actually pretty good in that department. I weighed in at about 187-188 most of the time instead of 190-191. So maybe things are looking up. Not the first time I've dropped a few pounds this summer though.....most of the time, only to see them come right back somehow.

Again though: Nobody considers Detroit a football town just because the Lions sell out all the time. Having a good team is a requirement for outside media to give a damn. If the Wings were a bad hockey team that had trademarked Hockeytown, nobody would have picked up on it. They just so happened to popularize it with everyone else by winning Stanley Cups at the same time. And I don't agree at all that the city has no effect whatsoever on the success of a team. It's perfectly possible for a bad organization to screw up the natural advantage of being based in certain cities. (Knicks, Clippers, etc.) But it's no accident that the NHL's greatest dynasty was in Montreal, the NBA's was in LA, and MLB's in New York. You don't see Baltimore, St. Louis, and Cincinnati dominating any of these leagues.

I'd put more money on Jon Tenuta.

The Great Brett Favre Kerfuffle of 2008
betterREDthandead replied to timothy1997's topic in Other Sports
What are the odds that the Packers trade Aaron Rodgers instead? He'd be a lot more appealing to a lot of teams as a long-term option without the drama, and the Packers might get more for him. If Favre looks like he's going to be around a little while, the Packers could groom Brohm instead. -
No, I don't. WVU never had even a hint of NCAA trouble while he was there. Neither in recruiting nor academic shenanigans. I see no reason why it will be different here. Nothing along the lines of "consider it done this year." Besides, our last win over OSU was more recent than our last loss to State

Default prediction of 5-11. I like the focus on the running game, but they still have to execute it. -
Little Brother needs to prove it can win first, then talk smack.

Bowman named Senior Advisor to Blackhawks

No. -
It's not gonna stay that way though. You're right, Babcock really does want to split them up. He keeps on trying. And they always find their way back to the same line.
-
Emrick really is not terrible. I think his voice is pretty awful, but he's an OK announcer and he's got some entertaining quirks. His real skill is finding the puck. I'm constantly astounded by his ability to describe exactly what happened to the slap shot that you just can't see on TV. He'll say it bounced off so-and-so's leg or he thinks the goalie got a piece of it with the knob of his stick or something and replay will prove him right. It's pretty impressive.

Bowman named Senior Advisor to Blackhawks

Funny, a lot of people had the same questions when he took a new head coaching job at the age of 60. All the best to Scotty. The guy coached our team to 3 championships. It sucks ten times over that he's leaving, but considering what he's done for the Wings and the fact that he's never really been tied down in one place, I'd say we owe it to him not to get angry that he's leaving. -
Nah, if I were the Dictator of the Season, OSU would only lose three games. Youngstown State, Penn State, and Michigan. They'd beat USC but it would some god awful ugly-ass game, like 6-3.

I hope Pudge hits .300 and the Yankees miss the playoffs. TBH though it would be just as special if the Yankees go but the BlowSox stay home. Go Rays!
-
Actually I can see how the Pens might complain. There doesn't have to be any actual negotiating for tampering to take place. But there does have to be some element of going out of your way to talk to someone, even if it's just a phone call. If Babcock had said that in the hallways after the game, then it'd be a stronger case, but the post-game handshake is practically forced interaction, so it's not going to matter.
-
It's too late for that logic though. That's the sort of thing you worry about when trading for someone, as in, are we giving up valuable assets for a guy who's gonna leave anyway? When you're deciding between two players, if it does come down to that, you pick the one that'll give you the bang for your buck. Besides, who do we have to get rid of for a guy that probably leaves? If he leaves, then we don't have to lose anyone else. If he stays, then we maybe lose Franzen but then Hossa leaving is no longer a risk, is it? There's no in between. And hasn't Hossa already proven he's "humble" enough to not just jump to the highest bidder?
-
That would be a great thing for you to have a link to.
-
How does the possibility that Hossa could leave make it undesirable to keep him? Wouldn't it be a good thing, having a player that other teams want to get? By the way, regarding the actual subject of the thread, all I have to say as a self-declared Official Flip Slappy is WOOHOO!

Not to mention the Artest rumors Even more fine by me. -
Agreed. No way this is a fire sale. DD traded for someone we need right now. I just wish we could have a do-over on the Renteria trade. Jair Jurrjens would sure look good in the rotation right now.
-
It's too bad Pudge had to go, especially to the Yankees. I was pretty shocked to read about it. But it saves a tough decision in the offseason. Next time the Yankees are in town, I hope Tigers fans stand and give Pudge the cheer he deserves. We owe him that much for taking a chance on us when the Tigers had hit absolute bottom and had just grabbed a shovel. I just hate the idea of Inge as the full-time catcher. He is a terrible hitter when catching.

Why else we are Hockeytown: Ever notice how the media, a couple times now, has decided at random times, "Detroit is no longer Hockeytown. Let's anoint a new one." Once upon a time it was Buffalo. Then it was St. Paul last season. Of course, in proclaiming St. Paul, they didn't say, "Buffalo is no longer Hockeytown." They keep coming back to Detroit. I guarantee you the next time they ask, "Who's the 'new' Hockeytown?" it won't be St. Paul they call the "old" one.
