    Third Jersey Releases for 2009

I really didn't think it would be too much to ask for you to read the whole thread. Here, I did the work for you. Or hell, you could even read the post directly above this one. http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/index.ph...t&p=1427441

    Third Jersey Releases for 2009

1936 would be a hell of a good throwback year: I'm not against the idea of a throwback. I'm against the idea of the throwback that everyone thinks is a big part of Wings history but isn't and is offensive to the eyes besides. Be honest. If the Wings had never worn that candy-stripe thing, and RBK said, hey Wings fans, this candy-stripe will be your third jersey, there would be massive hate and discontent. We're talking pitchforks and torches at Reebok HQ, and once the ashes have cooled, Bettman's office. It would not be a pretty scene. But because of one lousy season (and I do mean lousy) way back in the '20s, people get all misty-eyed over it instead of hating it. The Blackhawks wore that jersey for a period in the 1930s, to include 1936, which just so happens to be a Cup year for the Wings. I don't particularly like inaccurate throwbacks, and just as bad, throwbacks from different years or eras. (Like when the Lions wore their jerseys from the 1930s against the Patriots of the 1980s.) If they're gonna do it, do it right. Those 1936 jerseys would be awesome.

I'm not worried about the loss of tradition. I just don't get why people think the stupid candy-cane jersey is so historical.

'Cause one, they're piss-ugly and two, there's no history involved with them.

Favourite Players From Each Hockey Nation

Canada - Steve Yzerman USA - Brian Rafalski Sweden - Henrik Zetterberg Finland - Valtteri Filppula Russia - Pavel Datsyuk Czech Republic - Dominik Hasek Slovakia - Marian Hossa Slovenia - Jan Mursak gosh, it seems like there's a common thread here Fact is, rarely do I find a favorite player that isn't on the Wings. My favorite non-Wing is Mats Sundin, but he's not gonna outdo Zetterberg.

This way teams can wear their third jersey at home instead of on the road without having to make prearrangements with the visitors. That's why the switch. In other words, so fans will buy more third jerseys. I'll tell you what would truly look sharp. Highlighting the Winged Wheel in silver. Like the Flyers did with their flying P on the orange third they wore for a few years. THAT would look amazing. I'm not even being sarcastic.....I think it'd look tremendous. Silver goes really well with the Wings' colors.....especially in June But......this: I will be tremendously disappointed in any owner who approves a third jersey or any changes to the classic look.

That and he's actually from East Lansing. People assume that means he will come to the Wings and take a hometown discount too. Just like Brian Rolston was going to.

The Great Brett Favre Kerfuffle of 2008

That's probably true, but I don't care: I hate the Vikings too, and if they lose a draft pick or two because the league finds they tampered, I'm not gonna shed any tears.

Good. Now everyone can stop pretending we're going to sign him.

No, they absolutely, positively, should not. Black is the "cool" thing to do these days. Oh, it's so fearsome and intimidating. The Flyers got rid of their excellent and unique orange jerseys so they could wear black like everyone else and it's stupid. Everyone wants to wear black. It's retarded.

    Third Jersey Releases for 2009

"bland" is not what comes to mind, IMO.....I'm going more for "aggravated 1st degree assault and battery on the eyes." And I don't get what's so wonderfully retro and throwbacky about them. The Wings (Cougars) jersey, I mean. One season. That's what they represent. One season. And a lousy season at that - Detroit was tied for 7th out of 10. The beauty of the current jersey is that it is a throwback. And it so happens that the white Wings jersey and the red Blackhawks jersey (which is what the two teams would wear if they don't mess with things) are two of the most beautiful in the league. Maybe the most. Why bombard the eyes with that candy-striping?

The Great Brett Favre Kerfuffle of 2008

Nonsense. You make a strong case for Favre - I'm finding it mostly not worth arguing about because ultimately I don't like either party. I have a hard time "picking sides" because of my deep and abiding dislike for the Packers and most everything associated. (And now that the Vikings have been dragged into it with tampering charges: wheeee! I hope they lose draft picks. Just because.) BUT....."Favre has done nothing wrong".....NO. Favre has not handled this well at all and has been wrong ever since he put the Packers in this position. Gene Wojceoiergjerfheruohfkowski on ESPN says Favre has earned the right to act this way because of how good he is. No. Favre has earned the right to walk out of the game on his own terms, which he did. He now wants back on his own terms. This isn't similar to the Barry Sanders retirement, it's more like the 2nd Hasek-go-round with Cujo.

Top 10 Red Wings of the Last 15 years?

Realizing that these sound a little bit conflicted. I mean that one year of Barry Sanders is literally a greater accomplishment than any career Lion effort over the last 15 years. With a few exceptions: Herman Moore Chris Spielman that one year where Scott Mitchell played out of his mind and set every Lions passing record in existence (95 I think)

Top 10 Red Wings of the Last 15 years?

No to Joe D., yes to Barry. Barry was so astronomically better than any of these schmoes the Lions have had that even one good year of Barry would be good enough for top 3. Longevity is huge IMO and you can count me among those who won't place Gale Sayers on the all time list. "Would-have" isn't the same as "did." Top 5 Pistons: Hill, Hamilton, Billups, B. Wallace, Stackhouse. All have six years as a Piston in those 15, except for Stackhouse who has 5. Dumars also has six in that time, and each of those 5 outdid Dumars in their six years.

The numbers might not be "cool" but they are certainly not the worst thing on the front of those Sabres jerseys.

Top 10 Red Wings of the Last 15 years?

Not a fair comparison. By definition the Pistons have far fewer players to choose from. And neither of those teams had anything even close to remotely resembling the success the Wings have had; the Lions were mediocre for the first half of it and indescribably, unfathomably s***ty in the last 7. The Pistons were bad in the first part, and spent about 7 or 8 years in the misguided teal era when there was Grant Hill and a lot of people pretending to be real NBAers. In other words the Wings have A LOT more to choose from. Barry and Joe D. have to be picked because who are you going to use: Christian Laettner and Charlie Batch?

Top 10 Red Wings of the Last 15 years?

I think he's passed both. #3 Wing of all time. Steve and Gordie are #1 and #2 and we can argue til the sun blows up about which is better - personally I don't even know which I'd pick.

Top 10 Red Wings of the Last 15 years?

Datsyuk has been around longer and gotten hurt less. As I see it Datsyuk has had four seasons of full-on, mostly full-health, superstar years, starting with 30 goals at age 25. Zetterberg has had two. He was brilliant in '06-'07 but missed a quarter of the season. And his injury history delayed his development a bit. Also, Selke Trophy. Actually I think Z should have won it, but the question is "top Red Wings" which is way open to interpretation, so I think the guys who actually bring in the hardware should get the consideration. If you want to nitpick and think Draper should be ahead of Datsyuk on my list based on my criteria, I won't argue. But when I compared guys for the last two slots - Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Kozlov, Maltby, Lapointe, Draper - I think Datsyuk and Draper are the two that stand out to me. Edit: Ask this question again in a few years for, say, the first 15 years of the new century, and I think Z will outshine Datsyuk. In fact I think he's the better player right now. Body of work for now goes to Datsyuk though.

    LGW Fit Club

Weights are good because muscle burns fat. Or something like that. And free weights generally are better than machine weights. Machine weights develop the target muscle, but free weights also develop all the little surrounding muscles and tendons and that stuff because they're needed to hold the weight steady, rather than it being fixed in place by the machine. The goal of my "new and improved" (and so far, definitely more effective) workout regimen I put myself on is to do more conditioning and endurance stuff, but as a side goal, to use more free weights and more medicine balls instead of machines. As a side note, I heartily recommend to everyone that one exercise where you sit on the ground, lift your feet off the floor so the only thing touching the ground is your butt, and twist from side to side with a medicine ball, kicking your legs in (when the ball is at your side) and out (when you're bringing it across). I've started doing this and when I'm done, I feel it in my arms, back, abs, and legs all at the same time. Fantastic whole-body exercise. It's helping my balance, too. When I started I was all wobbly, now it's easy to stay up and finish the exercise.
