No, I haven't seen Helm at all since then. I might have forgotten to look, but I don't think he's been out there. -

Uh, because it wasn't an actual fight? We should consider ourselves lucky Franzen wasn't the only one in. He friggin mauled Orpik. (Not that I'm complaining about what he did.) -

I don't want a solid period. I want a PERFECT period. Let's do this thing. -

I'm even getting used to Doc's nasally voice. And Doc is easily the best I've ever seen at locating the puck. It'll disappear and Doc'll describe exactly what happened to it - "bounces off Orpik's leg and into the corner" - and replays prove him right, every time. He calls crossbars, goalposts, deflections, everything. Usually I have my hands in the air celebrating a goal before the announcers do, not so much with Emrick. I like him. -
Southern teams lining up to sell to Balsillie

Houston. It might be the South but I hear they have a thriving youth hockey program, they do tend to support the Aeros well, and it's the largest market without a team, and growing fast. I think KC has some potential, especially with the sweetheart arena deal they're likely to offer, but if not Houston, I'd like to see the NHL gamble on Vegas. (HAR HAR.) It'd be the sort of bold, even ballsy move that the NHL needs to do and has a real chance to pay off big. (HAR HAR.) Come to Vegas, gamble, see a show, watch a hockey game. The team could sell tickets to casinos to comp high rollers with. Otherwise....Milwaukee, Seattle, Portland. -

Anything the Wings might be getting away with is payback for all the s*** Pitt got away with in the overtimes. I'm still mad about the dual-screwup, when some Penguin interfered with Zetterberg and Z was somehow called offside on the same play. -

Come to think of it I wouldn't mind terribly if Sillyballs got ahold of an expansion team. That's better than him swooping in and stealing one. I think in the next 10 years the league should expand by 2, then put a halt to it for like 50 years. -

betterREDthandead replied to MacK_Attack's topic in General
He's shady because of the methods he's used. I personally think it's shady to announce the move of the team before you even buy it. Selling "Hamilton Predators" season tickets before you even have the rights to do that is tampering and it's a slap in the face to Nashville fans. Swooping in to buy the Penguins not because they don't have fan support, but because they have arena issues, that's shady, and again, a slap in the face to a very old fanbase. I don't want to ever see Sillyballs in control of an NHL team. It's one thing to dream about owning a team in your hometown. It's quite another to piss on established fanbases in order to do it. -
Given that it came out of the same bottle that Fleury drinks from, you sure you want to ask that question? Does Fleury have a little Mo Clarett in him?

I wonder if the NHL owners will approve any sale to Sillyballs. I get the impression he rubbed them very sorely the wrong way in his botched attempts to buy the Pens and Preds. I for one hope he fails in every attempt to get a team. Shady character if you ask me. -
Zetterberg contract talks to be picked up in July

IIRC Martin Erat's vetoed deal was just such a one that rises in the middle and is smaller on either end. And since when have you of all people been averse to overanalysis? -

Curry was always viewed as a kind of coach on the floor ever since we brought him back from Milwaukee for his second go-round, kind of the way Lindsey Hunter is now. He was also a leader in the players' association. Well respected by players and his peers. I look around at the candidates, and I really don't see an obviously better choice. -

You just wanna bring back a Spartan Anyway no dice. Richardson's a guard. Not enough minutes for him, Chauncey, Rip, and Stuckey. Besides, the Trade Machine says no go. It puts the 'Cats too far over the cap. (I used Matt Carroll instead of Okafor, similar salaries.) Charlotte would have to throw someone else in worth about $3 million....someone else who either there'd be no minutes for or wouldn't be worth having. -

I'll go against the grain. I say he becomes the highest-paid Wing this summer at just under $8 million a year. -

Wow, Joe D. sounds pissed. Chris Sheridan on ESPN postulated that it was a respect issue, as in, Saunders never earned it from the team. I think that must be fairly accurate. Hiring Michael Curry without a search makes it look like Joe D thinks so too and put a respected assistant coach in his place. I'm a little disappointed - Saunders was exactly the coach I wanted when Larry Brown left, and I got my wish.....unfortunately it never panned out. And I love Sheed to death, always have ever since we traded for him, but it looks like he's played his last game in Motown too. And what's worse, I think it's the right move. I honestly would be shocked if Chauncey, Rip, or Tayshaun were traded, and I imagine Maxiell and Stuckey are sticking around too. Otherwise it looks like at least one more major change will be made. I don't like it, because I really like the current bunch, but I trust Joe D. If there was ever a man who knows what he's doing it's Dumars. -
Curious to see what kind of a response this gets. Don't know how many New Englanders there are among us. However, there is talk of a party/get-together/bash/shindig type deal in Boston for Game 4, on Saturday, May 31. Just a preliminary post right now, so no location set. (I don't know Boston that well, only been once.) Interested LGWers, please respond!

Getting a little nervous, Detroit fans?
betterREDthandead replied to BewareThePenguin's topic in General
I don't know if you've noticed, but Malkin is completely exhausted. The Pens would be better off without him in the lineup. Seriously. You can't honestly believe he'll be a factor. -
It wasn't the calls that were bad. It was the non-calls.

I don't usually complain about the refereeing. But I was disappointed in it last night. The refs let all kinds of hooking, obstruction, and holding go on (from both sides.) The Wings get an OT power play on a chintzy, ticky-tack hook by Sykora, but the refs let the screamingly obvious obstruction of Zetterberg slide.....AND they call him offsides? The Penguins got away with a LOT of obstruction last night. The Wings got away with a couple potential boarding calls. I don't necessarily mind "letting 'em play", but you have to draw the line somewhere. And some kind of line has to be drawn about goalie interference, too. The way they were called last night, a goalie could position himself out of his crease, blocking a player's path to the net, get run over and draw a power play, with only a token effort at stopping the puck. I mean, who cares if it goes in, it'll just be waved off, right? Goalie interference should NEVER be called under ANY circumstance outside the crease.
