Pens again bemoan lack of obstruction calls
betterREDthandead replied to 10 Minute Misconduct's topic in General
I used to like just about everything about the Penguins. Now I like just about everything about the Penguins, except the douchebag behind the bench. Shut up and coach your team. -
A good point. I'm not convinced it reflects hockey's popularity vs. basketball.....I suspect it has at least as much to do with the fact that the Wings are a round ahead of the Pistons.

Obviously, LGW wouldn't function without a whipping boy. It's not even as bad with Lilja as it was with Devereaux. Problem is this: People expect all six defensemen to play about as well as the #2 or #3 guy. But nobody's ever taken me up on my "Lilja Challenge", which is to find a better sixth defenseman in the league.
-
I have some homework for the Lilja-haters. Go look at the blue line depth charts for all 30 teams. Find out who's the 6th best on each one. Tell me with a straight face that they're better than Lilja.

Six days wasn't enough between series, but two days should do the trick. Riiiiiiiiight..... What's funny is how the Wings are the old ones, but it's Malkin who's gassed and needs a summer off. Chris Chelios is over twice Malkin's age and in over twice as good of shape.
-
I wouldn't worry about it....Doc Emrick invents a lot of terminology that's not likely to ever be picked up by the rest of the world.

This could be a season of record trophy-winning for the Wings. We've got the President's Trophy, the Campbell Bowl, and the Jennings in hand. Stanley, Smythe, Norris, Adams, Selke, Masterton and Byng yet to be awarded, and we have I'd say a better than 50/50 shot at six of 'em. Too bad we couldn't get finalists for the Vezina, Calder, and Hart too. Nothing like hogging the hardware :D Almost forgot: Many congrats to Dom and Ozzie. A true tag-team effort. And the suffocating defense this year played a big role too.

The Official 2007-08 Detroit Pistons Season Thread
betterREDthandead replied to a topic in Other Sports
I'm not too worried yet. I won't get worried unless we start looking bad in Game 6. We get them once in our barn, and given the way this game played out I certainly don't feel like playing in their place is a real-big home court advantage for them. Still in this series. -
Could You Believe Malkin's Antics Tonight?
betterREDthandead replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
 Do you even watch the game to see the abuse he takes in front of the net? Homer is the last player on the Wings to accuse of diving. You and your boy Therrien oughta get together for a *****-fest about the refs one day. -
No New Year's Eve game, then? Oh well. This would be awesome news.

that's "salchow"

He stuck his leg out. I don't have a problem with it.

You're new, so, a quick warning. Take a read through the forum rules, please:

Will the Pens' whining help them get the calls tonight?
betterREDthandead replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
I wouldn't either. But the Pens are 0-for-8 on the power play. So if Therrien thinks that all he needs is more calls, he's ignoring the real problems. -
Here's a news flash: "What Must Team X Do To Get Back In The Series?" is bread and butter for columnists. They write them all the time. The mere presence of such a column does not indicate bias. Period.

May as well put Malkin on with Laraque and Kennedy. If he's really that tired, he's just gonna drag down whoever he plays with. Sid's a playmaker. If Malkin can't catch up to the play to finish, all that playmaking will be useless. And who's gonna spark the offense, if not Sid? Ryan "Eight Minutes" Malone?
-
I actually don't think this is a HUGE game for the Wings. (As non-huge as any Cup Finals game can be, anyway.) Games 1 and 2 established who the better team is. The Pens NEED this win, so it's huge for them, but even if they win, Wings are still up 2-1, and the Pens still need three of four, which they're not getting, to win the Cup.

Wish we could see a city-by-city breakdown. It's good for the league no matter what, but it'd be worlds better if we knew that more people in, say, Atlanta were watching.
-
Because this, he got away with (as far as the league is concerned). Stick work, less easy to conceal.
-
I believe the strategy is entitled, "Go Get The Damn Puck." Seriously....that's basically what they do. We don't have it? Go get it then. The left-wing lock disappeared when they got rid of the two-line pass. I'm not a hockey coach, so I don't know the particulars and intricacies. But basically, the left-wing lock was predicated on clogging up the half of the neutral zone that you were allowed to pass the puck into from your defensive zone. Now that you can pass to the other half of the neutral zone, there's twice as much ice to defend so it just doesn't work.

OK, so, on this we agree. Cheap shots and sucker punches don't belong. But why the concern over the concussion then? It's as I said - a cheap shot is a cheap shot. I don't disagree that Roberts should sit a game or two. But I don't think it should be treated differently or thought of any differently by the league or the team or the fans just because of injury history, recent or no. Because when you do, you lend a degree of legitimacy to it if they hit a guy who is 100% healthy. When you drive-by punch a guy in the head, there's a risk of him being hurt no matter what. Treat it all the same.

Did he bring a goalie stick and go, "Slashing, when you take your stick and do dis, *stick* see, and dere's a penalty. And then for trip, you know, like dis *stick* and for hook like dis *stick* and for spear, like dat *stick* and you go to da box, and you feel shame. And den you free."
-
Should he be suspended if he'd done it to Maltby instead?
-
Intent to injure equals a suspension. So which is it? Intent to injure, or no suspension?
