Create a line-up that you would hate to play against.

18 guys named Bryan Marchment. My knees would never survive. -
No, it's something every school does and continues to do. Including Michigan. The coaches aren't allowed to watch nearly any of the players' summer activities. The Freep alleges that they did. Michigan's compliance department, which is the same staff they had under Carr too, found no problems along this line or they'd have reported it. Anyway, the MSU quote isn't about offseason practice, it's about preseason practice. There's no time limit on preseason camp, except for limits on actual practice length and some regs on two-a-days. MSU coaches are supervising the whole thing, guaranteed. Of course, Stokes was also talking, in part, about preseason camp, conveniently ignored by the Freep. And I'll thank you not to call the players "idiot freshmen." They didn't act stupidly, they answered the questions they were asked. It's something anyone would have done. You're right on one thing - the media access will probably be tightened up. Thanks for that, Rosenberg, you *******. RR was much more open than Carr was and it was getting interesting. Back to Fort Schembechler, I bet. Although, I think but am not sure that these media days where Stokes and Hawthorne were asked these questions are required.

You're kidding, right? OK, yes, technically the "Red Wings" never wore it, but if you're going to say "it was the Detroit Cougars and not the Wings" then you're just being absurdly nitpicky. It's not a third jersey. It's a throwback. If they plan on wearing it this year, then maybe I could see calling it a third. It's not a regular thing. You can buy practice jerseys, are they a third? As for the actual topic: meh. I haven't really dug this wordmark trend, it makes hockey jerseys look like baseball or basketball jerseys. At least it's green. The Wild were one of the very few green-wearing teams in the league, and the other two were the Stars which wore half-green, half-black, and the Sharks, which are not really green. Then they switched and became just one of many in a crowd of red. It's dumb. You got 30 teams and all but one are blue, black, or red. Real imaginative.

That is what infuriates me to no end. There are a few potentially troubling issues in the article, but nothing that is as major as they make it sound. But this bit about quoting the freshmen who "apparently didn't know the rules" is dirty, scummy, rotten journalism. And it's horses***, because the freshmen were talking about the voluntary workouts and about preseason camp. In camp, there are no rules about time limits. All that four-hour-a-day stuff goes out the window. Gone. Nothing the freshmen said is even remotely close to a violation nor is it anything different that anyone else does. The link above is from Michigan State. It's not that MSU is violating anything and should be investigated, it's that Rosenberg had no ******* business insinuating Michigan was doing anything wrong as far as Stokes and Hawthorne were concerned.

Yeah, I think we're up s***'s creek here: Link

I would also prefer to continue to refine the BCS than to have a playoff. The vast majority of fans and writers who want a playoff live in fantasy gumdrop rainbow land, in which purity of competition is the first and only criterion in designing a playoff. Many are in favor of a playoff because they have their own special fantasy of how it would play out, and would likely be sorely and wildly disappointed to see the actual end result. There are certain truths that nobody takes into account when they say retarded things like, "a playoff wouldn't have to destroy the bowl system, you could incorporate the bowls into the playoff." I have my own idea how I'd like to see a playoff go, and I like it enough I could even be pro-playoff if it were implemented. I have no illusions this will happen, though, and so I remain staunchly anti-playoff.

Oh, I think he'll have a few chances this season to relive the incident, courtesy of helpful opposing fans. Especially on December 11 when the Blackhawks visit the Sabres.

I've been in a keeper league that just finished up its seventh season (eighth year - lockout) that's got 15 teams with 20 starting positions and three bench spots. Naturally, it goes very deep into the talent pool. I like it though - there is a LOT of free agent activity and it encourages trading.

Sure there is: 17 games

This is the widest lead we've seen on Chicago in a long while. They've dropped back into a tie with the Twinkies. Never never never never never count out Minnesota.

I think it's the other way round. Honestly, I think MSU is overrated this year.

Looks like Keselowski will drive the #12 next year for Penske. Awesome deal: a Detroiter racing for a Detroiter. Looking forward to rooting for Keselowski right alongside Montoya next year.

I think the idea that suddenly having a bunch of injury-prone guys will allow us to rotate our GR prospects to Detroit in greater numbers is an interesting benefit, but I doubt that was what Kenny had in mind. Simply a side consequence of looking for talented players on the cheap - the kind of players you're going to get have their share of flaws, including and especially injuries that have kept them from their full potential.

If the Vikings are so obviously the perfect place for him and all he wants to do is get out there and play, why did he skip most of the training camp grunt work?
-
Yeah, the NYR jersey is lazy. But on the whole this is a MUCH MUCH MUCH better direction than the crap Nike was foisting on us earlier this decade.

We seem to be trying to reenact 2007. Is Kyle Calder available?

In August you can trade players who have cleared waivers. Most team dump a whole bunch of guys on the waiver wire on August 1 and they almost never get claimed because 1) in a trade you can work out salary compensation whereas on the waiver wire you're on the hook for everything and 2) if you claim a minor leaguer just to sabotage a trade, everybody hates you and you'll never get a trade done again because whoever you sabotaged will do it right back to you. Besides I don't think guys who aren't on the 40-man roster have to go through waivers anyway.

You're basically trolling the thread. That's why they got removed. Mine too: I started falling for your s***, and we're not gonna take the thread that direction. Forum rules: learn 'em, live 'em, love 'em. There's your warning.

Last year ruined preseason games for me. Not that I held them in high esteem much to begin with, but frankly they no longer mean squat as far as I'm concerned.

Kind of a moot discussion, I think. Howard would have to be spectacularly s***ty for the Wings to give up on him after anything less than a full season. They've invested too much in his development for that.
-
So much for all those gushing articles about how he was maturing because he went a whole race or two without bitching out his crew or smashing a trophy. Don't forget the part where Vickers accused him, probably truthfully, of bashing in his fender after the race.

Baseball games don't get much better than yesterday's game. A brilliant and near-flawless pitching duel between two of the best in the league and a 9th-inning walk-off home run to win it 1-0. What a work of beauty. Inge is a PROFESSIONAL BALL PLAYER.

I realize that, but it says nothing about why they'd have such an inane rule.
-
Not bad. Now, why on earth can't you use the federation's crest? That sounds at least as absurd as those horrible vertical stripes on the socks.

The Tigers are in a pennant race. I don't care how bad they look, I'm having too much fun watching them this season. Sure, they're frustrating as hell, but who cares? This is basically only the fourth time in my life they've been playing meaningful games this late, and the first two times, I was two and five years old.
