I think it's because Fleury is playing well.

Rrrrggghh stop it. I hate California. (Sorry, Californians.) Anyone else like Kronwall reaching behind him to use Talbot's momentum from the attempted hit to slam him into the boards?

Haven't heard much out of either one, really. The Wings are shutting down the even-strength chances.

Solid period. More chances, more shots, more hits. Not often we can say the Wings were clearly the more physical team, but they definitely were.

Split power plays usually aren't a good thing but the silver lining is it means we can have the first unit out there for the whole thing. Off to watch the second.

Neither can the refs. If you love one goalie interference call, you'll love them twice as often!

    I found the applicable rule.

Any point to having a goalie crease if it doesn't matter where Holmstrom is when the shot is taken? Might as well paint the whole damn zone blue.

    And so it begins....

    GDT please.

Any chance of finals backroom shenanigans?

Actually, that's exactly when they call obstruction and interference.

He'll never slip that far. Besides, I think he should have stayed in college another year (for his own benefit - from a hate-the-Buckeyes standpoint, I'm glad he left.) Oh, and problem #2: Hmm.

    Wings/Pistons schedule conflict

That's part of my problem.....when I bought my TiVo, I stupidly didn't plan ahead for situations like this, and I bought the box that can only record one at a time. I had wanted to record the entire NBA ECF as well as the SCF. Besides, DVR's are luxury items. Not everyone can afford one. (And I'd be furious at someone who complain about what they can't afford in this economy but have a DVR at home.) And it's the principle of the thing. Bettman has now managed to piss off Red Wings fans twice these playoffs with stupid, stupid decisions and the lamest possible excuses for them. Normally I'm slow to get pissed off at Bettman because he gets blamed for a lot of stuff that's not his fault. But this is absolutely his doing and it's dumb.

Rodney Stuckey is a damn hoss. Side note: ESPN's mock draft has the Pistons drafting Chris Douglas-Roberts. I would drool. I would further drool if they drafted Sean Singletary in the 2nd round. It's a pipe dream, but a second string of Stuckey, Singletary, Douglas-Roberts, Maxiell, and Amir Johnson, all being groomed to take over when the current bunch gets old, sounds like way much fun to me.

Playing on a bad ankle risks your career. Playing with an unknown head injury risks your life. I hope you can tell the difference. Here's another case where the player and coaches went against doctor's orders (by cutting back on his meds and having him play through the difficulties.)

Dispelling some myths: the Pittsburgh Penguins

Yeah, so what if it was a fluke? (Was it? We beat Finland next for the gold, and never lost a game in the tourney. How many wins before they're not flukes?) It's called the Miracle on Ice because of Al Michaels' call to end the game. And because the Fluke On Ice doesn't have the same ring to it. And because a team of amateur kids that knocked off a team of highly seasoned, experienced *wink* amateurs with extremely large stipends.

In which case you don't know how scary it can be to start having them all of a sudden. So who are you to judge how serious Franzen's injury is?

the "this might/will be my last chance for a cup" factor

I do expect a big series from Drake for this reason.

By the way, to dispel the "china doll" theory, remember: Franzen played the entire Colorado series with these headaches.

I don't know if you noticed (ok, that was sarcasm....you'd have to have never even heard of LGW to notice) but a solid percentage, if not a majority, of fans here have been repeating the call for ages: Get tougher, get tougher, get tougher, get tougher..... In other words this is not a crowd that lightly hands out free passes for softness. So our "free pass" to Franzen ought to speak volumes. And really now - I don't care what's been reported, haven't you seen enough of the NHL playoffs to know that there's always more to an injury story beyond what's reported? We're lucky they even told us it was headaches and a possible concussion....."upper-body injury" is often the way they go with that.
