Red Wings practice facility in Denver?

Doesn't DU have an Olympic rink? Seems like not such a great idea to practice on the wrong size rink. Apparently the Wings think so too. Edit: never mind, I think it's CC that has that not DU.

Theodore to start Game 3; Forsberg hopeful

    Why mess with success?

How are people feeling about Crosby right now?

I always thought it was stupid to call a 19-year-old kid a disappointment because he couldn't drag his overachieving band of fellow kids past the eventual conference champion. I don't mind all the attention he gets. It's well deserved. If he stays healthy his whole career he's a legitimate threat to Gretzky's scoring records.

    WOW. Pistons lose game 1.

I'll be at the Palace for Game 5 tomorrow. Was hoping it would be the clincher, but I guess not. Wish 'em luck so I get to see a win!

Day of anticipation for Detroit sports....

I'll be at the Pistons game tomorrow. Whee!

Did LGW coin the nick name "MULE"?

I know, I saw the original thread, but that was because the writer, or some editor, confused Jiri with Rex Hudler the former Montreal Expo. Rex then semi-stuck around here as a nickname. I like it. Much MUCH better than Huddles. (Who besides his wife would call a grown man Huddles?)

Don't forget Rex. However these haven't really caught on with the hockey world at large (yet.)

On Ice Sounds Drowning Out Announcers?

    I don't see a problem with this.

Kevin Newsome U of M QB recruit

I think you need to catch up on your reading Newsome committed Thursday.

Joel Q hints at Game 3 goalie

Theodore again? I'm no NHL coach but I don't think spotting the Wings four goals is the best strategy for the Avs. You know what though? It doesn't matter. The Avs could put Roy and Sawchuk in the net at the same time and they wouldn't be able to win four of five games if they continue to let themselves get outshot by 2-1 margins.

Lesser known school, what? The dude's from Colorado!

    I'm slightly dissappointed

I'm disappointed in the Avs too. They scored a goal, the rat bastards. Next time they need to do better and let Ozzie get his shutout.

    octopi swinging

Let's see. The myth of octopus "goop" and "matter" - bad. Having the linesman jab a sharp shovel into the ice and risk taking out a chunk of the rink with it - good.

    Tootoo's mistake...

Yes, great battle. To which your greatest contribution was picking up a stupid penalty six seconds after finishing up serving the last one. Dips***.

    2008 NFL Draft Thread

Granted, Cherilus is an O-lineman, and you can't have enough of those. But Millen could have stayed where he was at 15 and gotten a MUCH better prospect in Branden Albert. Again I'm biased 'cause I'd have loved for the Lions to pick up the UVA guy, but Albert is without doubt better than Cherilus.

Gosder. Cherilus. Matt Millen is a f***-up.

    2008 NFL Draft Thread

Yeah, pretty pleased about that. Couldn't work out much better. Only thing, I'd have preferred Chris be #1 and Jake #2, because UVA rarely has the chance for a #1 overall pick. But I like it anyway. And, totally agreed on Matt Ryan. Good, not great, QB. Honestly, I'd label him 2nd round material. I don't see a QB in this draft worth picking in the 1st.

    Kopecky practicing already?

Gotta be a mistake on the part of the paper. Maybe someone borrowed helmet #82. No way Kopecky is skating hard on a freshly repaired ACL. Never happen.

    Larry Aurie

No, you're right except for the "stayed 8" part....he took #2 back, I believe. Otherwise #8 wouldn't have been available for Ellis.

Respect for the Red Wings and their fans

Then why didn't Lidstrom get the captaincy from Yzerman until Yzerman retired?

    I Freaking LOVE hockey

I love hockey cause I've always loved hockey. Why I loved hockey when I was six, I don't even know, I guess I just always thought it was the most natural thing in the world to root for the home team. I can think of a zillion things I love about hockey (the feeling in my stomach and the pounding of my heart when I watch that clip even though it's 12 years old and I know exactly what's gonna happen is one of them. Actually it's like six of them.) Fact is though, I love watching hockey just because I always have. Trying to picture giving up the Wings is like trying to imagine a new color that nobody's ever seen.

Franzen - can we afford to keep him?

Zetterberg makes almost $3 million next year without an extension. If the Wings sign him to an extension that gives him, say, $7.5 million, that can almost be fit into the cap space we currently have of about $4.3 million. And don't forget, the cap is likely to rise by $6 million next year, and higher in following years. That's way more than enough money to pay Franzen and Flip their fair share. Cap space is not an issue.

    Osgood's (lack of) playoff beard

I think Ozzie is still working on his '98 Cup run beard.

    Budaj or Theodore now?

Let's face it, there's a reason Budaj is the backup. It's not like they can switch out like we can with Ozzie and Hasek and consistently expect an equal performance from each. Theodore will go unless he's still too sick to play.
