    owen nolan

Hey if we can get Nolan here for under $1mm, I'm all for it. But I have a feeling he'd rather play for peanuts with San Jose then Detroit

    Game 1 a 6-3 rout

WM56, I heard about that hit, Bootland will need to bring that kind of intensity to the rink each night, not just when he looks to impress a puck bunny....I hear you on Amadio, he got an assist and I heard he looked strong, even stuck up for the panty waste Kopecky

    Tomak Valtonen

So he's not looking so good?

    Tomak Valtonen

^^ that's right, and although skating is important, it's overrated. Shanahan, Holmstrom, Schneider are all awful skaters but they've carved out a nice niche in this league, as long as someone is willing to crash the net and be physical, why not?

    Hudler vs. Filppula

Agreed, if Filipula pans out like they think he can, trade Hudler. Why? Because he might be able to fetch us some decent picks or prospects and with his size, he might not ever be able to be effective night in and night out. He's also prone to take shifts and whole games off and in order to be successful in this league he'd need to play with big physical wingers. Filppula is bigger (slightly) but seems to give a great effort each night and seems to be more of a Babcock type of guy

    Tomak Valtonen

"Wardrobe problems"? I'd still like to see him here, Finland is the second toughest league next to the NHL, he's putting up some serious PIMs there, he may be a good fourth line guy. I know you know this, but stats and scoring isn't everything.

    Tomak Valtonen

He is but plays in Finland since he was a kid

    Game 1 a 6-3 rout

My boy Amadio had an assist and was a +1. I hope this is a breakout season for him because he really improved his skating and the Wings can use his toughness.

    Brandon Sugden?

where did you hear Detroit was going to acquire him? Or more like how?

    Brandon Sugden?

But they can't claim him anymore, right? They could trade for him but not claim him. I'd love to get him, but I would never hold my breath for that.

    Brandon Sugden?

He was sent to Syracuse. Where did she hear this rumor? on this site? Holland would never get a player of that caliber here....too bad

    Barnes makes Griffins roster

Is he the "ideal" player? my ideal player is Gary Roberts, the old Eric Lindros or Brendan Shanahan. Current favorites are Dave Scatchard, Jason Wiemer, Chris Simon, even Tie Domi. Guys who can fight and score the ugly goal, those are my ideal players, if Detroit had 3 of those guys, there'd be no need to discuss toughness or enforcers. As for why I chose Barnes? Because he's the type of player this team can use on the fourth line, a guy who can dish out punishment and drop the gloves in support of his teammates. He was the ONLY guy in the organization who played that way. If you saw any GR Griffs games last year, he played really well, but more importantly, when teams went after Kronwall because of his body checks, or went after Kopcky because he's an ass, who was there to defend them? Barnes. As a matter of fact, Kopecky picked up his game when he played with Barnes and Vandermeer, why? Because he knew he could play chippier and would get more room, and he did. So I hope this clears up any confusion as to me wanting a team of "goons" or trade every player we have for cement heads, just like I don't believe that you love every "Strom" and "Ov" or Slava that crosses this organization. I do think that the ideal team has mostly finesse and speed, complimented by grit and toughness.

Who said he was my idol, troll? Have I mentioned his name as an idol of mine?

    Barnes makes Griffins roster

What does that say for Kopecky? Barnes had as many goals, and Barnes also fights. Have you seen him play? No one is saying he's Brett Hull, but he can be a fourth line grinder type if given the chance. Ireland really likes him, as does McNamara, and he scored during the pre-season. That's the problem that these guys run into, Barnes not only has to protect the players that Heaton likes, because they can't fend for themselves, but he also has to score 40 goals or so.

    Barnes makes Griffins roster

It's true...too bad, he had a good camp and provides this team some missing ingredients, but you know....he's not small or soft enough, so out he goes

    Brad Ference?

Cool..can't wait till Holland ignores him and he gets picked up by another team as a 5th or 6th guy, then regret it when he realizes Lebda is as bad as we all thought he was....

    Barnes makes Griffins roster

It's clear he's Ireland's favorite and he's improved his game, amazing, a coach with a bias towards bigger players....it's clear Ireland won't be back

    Brad Ference?

Much better now then when? You think this team is better? There were many guys who were available with size that also had some skill, Holland chose to chase and overpay his own UFA's instead of going after those guys. There may be some interesting names available at the waiver wire, we'll see what that brings us

    Brad Ference?

Holland did not build this team.....You know nothing! Jimmy Devellano built this team, and Scotty Bowman after him, Holland was GM in 1998, and the foundation was laready built. When Ilitch forst bought the team, Holland was a minor league goalie in Adirondack, learn the facts before you try to put words in our mouths. Holland DID NOT build this team

Another ignoramous... Getting toughness does not mean getting a guy who'll put us on the penalty kill night in and night out. Every other team in the league has one or two toughguys, look at NJ, they have 3 tough guys, their GM has won more cups then Kenny Boy (I know, hard to believe). Bowman is on record as saying we need at least one enforcer, even Holland has said it, so your argument is tired and old. I do agree, there are quite a few guys who would hurt us by collecting penalties and acting like an idiot, but there are so many more...guys like Oliwa, Simon, Laraque etc...who would help immensely, they can play a fourth line grinder role, and give our team some confidence....the last SC Finals matchup had 2 teams with toughguys playing on 1st thru the 4th lines....Lastly, Sean Avery is an enforcer in your mind only it seems sorry I believe a hockey player should play hockey not fight only (if he can't score, or defend he's a figure skating boxer and deserves to be out of the league) I hate people saying a team has to have a fighter, if I want to see a fight I watch boxing.Keep in mind there are rules that limit fighting (they haven't been enforced, but they are there)such as the wording of instigator (you chase a guy to fight him it's supposed to be an instigator penalty)I used Avery as an example since he is known to take alot of penalties. It seems if it was up to you there would be one skilled player and a bunch of goons on each team. The wings will get someone who can fill both roles well enough they don't need a guy who appears mediocre at best.We really didn't have an enforcer the last season but did pretty well (until playoffs, which may be taken care of with coaching) 03/04 we had McCarty, Hatcher, Thomas, Bootland..yes at different times but that team is tougher than this one. Stop saying that you're looking for a guy who can fight and play, those guys are already signed and are making millions of dollars already. Everyone over rates the effect of the new rules, if it's for certain that enforcers will be lost, why is it every team in the league is carrying at least 2? Look at Calgary, they went to the finals with Oliwa and Simon (Who played on the first line) and Tampa had Roy and Dingman. You still haven't acknowledged how teams that have BOTH finesse and toughness are the teams that go far in the playoffs. Except for Detroit in 2002 (Which had world class goaltending, and exclude McCarty) NO TEAM has made it to the finals or won a cup without toughness and ONE Enforcer. And you're ignorant statement that I want a team of goons doesn't hold up, because I never, ever said that....point out where I said our team should be replaced by goons? You can't, proving that you have to stretch to back up your argument. Scotty Bowman agrees with us, Holland even agrees with us, and you haven't even addressed a GM like Lou Lamoriello has a few tough players. Your argument is weak, and the coaches and GM on the Wings have admitted they need one.

    who to look for

Depends on your cup of tea.....me? I'd be watching Brett Angel and Brett Carpentier, both big, surprisingly mobile tough guys who can play a decent shift...others? I'd watch Amadio, Bootland, and some of the try outs to see if there's anything there. Let us know your thoughts afterwards

    Todd Jackson

If there was ever a waste of a roster spot, that would be Jackson. He brings nothing to the table, he's small and can't score. His redeeming value was his speed, but that hasn't gotten him anywhere. He's at best a career ECHL guy, maybe bordeline 4th line AHL player
  25. Detroit has been interested also, he played for Florida of the ECHL last year. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdispla...=TRUE&pid=73323 Check out this quote: "From what I understand, Detroit and Grand Rapids are lacking in big, physical guys and they know my role and they're looking to see what I can do," Charpentier said. "My agent spoke with the GM of Grand Rapids and the assistant GM of the Red Wings, and they said if I do get sent down I'll get called up when they play tough teams. So I'll be getting my games at the AHL level as a young guy, and I want to prove that I can play at that level."
