I bet he's expendable, Edmonton has a few guys who can fill his role. But Holland would never pick up the phone...sad . If you remember, I was pulling for Scatchard and Lapointe, and a cheap d-man like Simpson, have Bootland play a fourth line role and I'd have been more than happy. Now, because Holland's sitting on his hands, we're left with the pick me overs. I still think there are some bargains out there, but I'm not a big Worrell fan either. So please stop assuming that: A) I want to trade Zetterberg and Datsyuk for Wade Belak That I want a pure goon who can't skate or who will be a healthy scratch for 2/3 of the season. My favorite players are guys like Roberts, Scatchard, Domi, Tucker, Lindros, Jovanoski, Corson. Guys that can score and back up their gritty play. I can do without guys like Worrell or Burnett, but unfortunately that kind of toughness is better than none.

Bootland is not an enforcer. So no, not happy now
-
But remember, there are a few guys out there that can play an effective fourth line role, chip in a goal here or there and give our guys some room. Look at a guy like Chris Simon, he plays from the 1st line to the 4th line, or Tie Domi. They add muscle and can play efective minutes for their teams. It's a no brainer

What is with you and this Brown guy? Get a room! This may not even be true... Not sure if you've noticed, but a lot of teams are hanging back and waiting it out. All these teams (with the exception of Philly) have not been able to get FA's for years and they are like a kid in a candy store right now. Evaluate Holland after training camp or possibly when the season gets going a bit. By the way, the last time I checked, Chelios and Fischer can clear people out from in front of the net... How many more of those guys do we need on our team? Sounds like you want to rename the team the Detroit Goon-Wings. "Goon Wings"? Because the we want the Wings to sign a few guys with grit? Sounds like you want to rename them the Detroit "Pink Wings"

He is all offense and has no defensive ability and is soft. You already have Lidstrom and Schneider to quarterback the 2 power play units, why on earth do we need another? (I'm just venting, nothing personal ). I don't get signing McDonnel and Delmore, it does nothing to address our weaknesses. He has the same reputation everywhere he's played, all about offense, that's why he never stays anywhere very long. Horrible signing (if true)...unless there's a trade in the works

Hockey Leaks is a copy of Eklund.

Have you ever played? Do you know how the game works? Do you know how the game is going to work? I have been playing hockey for over 20 years and watching it for just as long. I know and have been through seasons of being terrible, not just early playoff exits. You just think you are entitled to a team that wins. Sorry buddy, it doesn't work that way. What does playing have to do with anything? I've preached the same song since I've been on this board. All Holland has to do is address this issue and I'm fine. It's so easy to do also, there are guys sitting out there for nothing. Look at this team from 2003/04 and tell me you think they're ready to compete for a Cup, given what our competition has done. You can't. By the way, Yzerman, McCarty, Devellano, Lewis and Kocur agree with me that Detroit needs to get more grittier and needs more North/South type players. I think they played the game, do you count their opinion

If he has such great leadership qualities, why did the Wild name him Captain and then trade him. You don't just trade your C unless things aren't working out. It wasn't because he was going to be asking for too much money! If you are with Minnesota and things aren't working out, then you have some serious concerens. When was Delmore named captain of anything? Your argument makes no sense. If you want to know the reason why Brown was expendable, it's because they already had Alex Henry and Willie Mitchell back there. If we had ONE mean D-Man with size, I'd be somewhat happy, we have none. I was talking about Brown being captain of the Wild. When your input is asked for by those who makes decisions, what makes you happy will matter. I've been reading your posts for a while and all you want to do is complain about decisions that are made and expect that your oppinions should be taken into account by Holland and Illitch. Get over yourself and give the people who have brought us some cups the benefit of the doubt that they know what they are doing. Shut the board down then.....no one is allowed to doscuss the Red Wings unless you cheerlead and drink the koolaid. Attn forum: Unless you're a Red Wing Homer, like Liddy, you can't have an opinion. Typical homer who doesn't understand that it wasn't Holland who brought us the cups....it was Jim Devellano, Bryan Murray and even Scotty Bowman (He acquired Shanny) that built this team. Holland was haded the keys, and did everything to screw this up, but because the Wings were so deep and the foundation so solid, nothing happened. But since you started watching hockey in 2001/2002, I wouldn't expect you to get that. Lastly, I do complain, myself and others took alot of heat when we said Detroit would lose in the playoffs because they were too finesse, to soft. I think we were proven right, all I ask is that Holland address this issue like he said he would. Now you can go back to being a homer, thanks! It's one thing to discuss, it's another thing to just complain about everything. I have never seen you happy. When it comes down to it, Holland makes the decisions. Illitch has given him the reigns. Bryan Murray, give me a break. I will give you that the names you mentioned are VERY important, but Murray please! Look at his drafts while he was here. Devellano deserves the most credit.

Typical Holland....

We don't have the luxury of signing every player we want to. That is why we now have a salary cap. We need to get the best players that price will allow. The most important thing to do is re-sign our players. Dats for $3M hopefully, Hank for $2, and Kronwall for $850,000. We have to leave that and about another $1M for a little breathing room under the cap. That all means we can't go crazy signing people and have to be smart about it. We take who we can that fits under the cap. Best players for what we NEED: Brad Brown Todd Simpson Not another soft, puck moving d-man Brad Brown http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/player_bio.asp...id=175&hubName= Assets Plays an intimidating game from the back end, and can also drop the gloves at will. Has excellent leadership qualities. Flaws Lacks foot speed and has trouble going up against shifty forwards in the NHL. Has not developed his defensive game as well as expected. Career potential No. 6 or 7 defenseman. Total NHL 330 2 27 29 -16 747 108 1.85 Sounds like a winner Well...Andy Delmore? Soft and a defensive liability....sounds like a loser! Plus couldn't even handle playing in Nashville

When did you think that? When he washed out in Nashville? How does this make up for the loss of Hatcher? This signing, if true is a joke. He's an AHL player that on his best day can get 5-6 minutes at the NHL level. Don't we have enough puck moving defensemen? Who's going to make opposing forwards pay the pricein the defensive zone? Who's going to keep opposing forwards honest.

settle down there tough guy.. McCarty would be the first to admit he cant skate a lick.. read his book.. Kocur? come on.. if your going to argue my point use some hard hitters that CAN skate (LaPointe, Avery, Brashear) I never said this was a HUGE signing.. all I AM saying is that you need to be careful when you are looking for hitters and physical players now.. the NHL is doing everything they can to de-value the one dimensional player (which, IMO is how it should be.. weed out the 'hangers on') You still need guys to clear the crease, still need guys to make sure your goalie doesn't get run over. Yes, you don't need a team of tough guys, but you also can't have a team of soft players, and that's what we have. We're softer than the last time we played. You know the result. I guess I don't understand why you wouldn't sign Woolley if you are looking for more finesse, from everything Holland has said, he wanted more size and toughness. This is not the signing to go about this.
-
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ... That's why all these other teams were beating down his door, right? He couldn't play in Nashville, doesn't that say something? Plus, Holland needs more size and was only looking for a 5th or 6th D-Man, how does this fit. Look at what other teams are doing, they sure as hell are getting bigger, and who replaces Hatcher? Delmore? LOL
-
Again, so much for size and toughness....thanks Holland,as if Monday isn't bad enough
-
200 lbs is what he calls size and toughness? You're kidding me. He was a washout in Nashville. Why do we end up with these guys? At least get a guy with some toughness
-
Quote from Holland: The two areas I'm still concerned about is goal scoring and our size and toughness," Holland said. "We only have so much money left to stay under the salary cap, so I don't know if we'll be able to address all of our needs in our new world. We're going to have a lot of question marks that might not get answered until midseason, but I think that's going to be the case for a lot of clubs." So he signs Andy Delmore? What a joke
-
So much for size.... why didn't we just sign Woolley? I don't get this signing, he has no size, and he's a Woolley clone. I hope this is an error.
-
He's an RFA who was offered a contract but has yet to sign, I hear rumors that he may move on. He didn't get along with Greg Ireland (Griffs coach) and there was some tension about what his role should be.
-
To play with Ovehckin (sp) and probably because they're one of the few teams to show interest.
-
You're correct....but I can't see Detroit trading Schneider.
-
That's good news, if true that is...
-
Exactly..need to look elsewhere....Schneider never played for the Isles, and besides, he's not going anywhere.
