I'm on board with Carney, maybe a Hudler type is all it'd take

Would you trade Hudler or Williams for Witt and a pick? The Wings have some assets to throw around

Not surprising considering how soft their defense was last night against Detroit. They could use a crease clearer

Babcock paired Lilja with Lidstrom because Lilja was supposed to be the "stay at home" tough defenseman that they needed. Lilja was supposed to compliment Lidstrom with his size and grit to Lidstrom's finesse and talent. They also knew that Lidstrom, as a fellow Swede, would work well with Lilja. In the past, Lidstrom has also brought along all his defensive partners he's been paired with....guys like Murphy/Dandenault etc..so it'd make sense to pair the two together. Lilja was not a top 4 defenseman until Fischer went down. Yes, Lilja has really stepped up lately, he's performed well, but he still is not capable of being a tough, gritty, mean defenseman this team really needs.

At least Witt is sought after by several teams. Lilja was practically on a plane on his way to Europe when Kenny called him up. If Lilja turned out okay, why can't Witt? I wouldn't judge Witt on his current level of play, he's awaiting a trade. Either way, he's tougher than any player currently on the Wings and the Wings really need to toughen up. Exactly! No one expected Chelios to be the horse he's been on defense for us this year, no one expected Lilja to turn out to be a decent defenseman, fact is Witt is wanted because he's physical and responsible in his own end. Imagine Witt paired with Lidstrom or Schneider? I'm sure he'd be at least as good as Lilja, but much more physical.

Guys I'd like to target: Defense: Sheldon Souray Brendan Witt Craig Rivet Cale Hulse Luke Richardson all available Forwards: Dallas Drake Owen Nolan Jamal Mayers (I know he's injured, but he was available) Any others guys?

Well, people have been singing his praises on different threads. Lilja has played well recently, no taking away from that, but we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves by saying Lilja is better than Witt. Lilja has had the icetime to develop and has the best defensman in the NHL as his partner to allow him to grow, Witt plays on the worst team in the NHL, goals against wise...Witt is a little overpriced, but he's still better than Lilja
-
So thats your reasoning? Lets not forget that Lilja was a -8 last season and only had 7 pts. Who's to say Witt wouldnt excel being on Detroit?? I hate when people make comparisons when the two players situations are completely different. Witt is better than Lilja...thats just common hockey knowledge. Witt is most certainly not better than Lilja, but thanks for that lesson in "common hockey knowledge". I'm guessing you've never seen the guy play? Witt can't play defense to save his life. He's a little better than Woolley in his own end. He doesn't possess ANY offensive assets and his "big physical game" that everyone seems to talk about is on par with Schneider's physical game. Witt is NOT what this team needs and the ONLY reason people mention his name is because he's available. I'll agree that Witt is better than Woolley and would fit nicely as a 6th defenseman, but to trade away all the assets you guys expect Washington will demand? C'mon now. That's the stupidest thing I've read on this board. Witt won't be coming to Detroit because Witt sucks and is not what we need. Funny...Lilja scores his first goal and gets an assist and now everyone worships at the altar of Andreas Lilja Witt is better than Lilja, Witt is stuck on the worst team in the NHL in terms of goals against. Lilja would be a 5th/6th D-man in Washington. Face it, Lilja has been carried for most of the season by Lidstrom, imagine Witt with Lidstrom? He'd look better and be more physical. Lilja should not be any more than a 5th or 6th d-man

JLA is a library, they need guys like Bootland to step up and get the crowd going. Trust me, he'd be a fan favorite EDIT* The guy had a 1goal and assits tonight, along with a fight with Brandon Sugden. That makes his season total 14 goals 21 assists and 233 PIM's, for GOD's sake, what the h-ll does this guy have to do to see some NHL action?
-
What I said was a fact, how do you think he was signed by Grand Rapids after he scored, what? 50 goals? He'll probably get a shot and e does deserve it, but I don't expect much
-
I bet Mowers and a pick.
-
Pass on both. Weinrich is awful this season, bad passer and not nearly as physical as he used to be. McAmmond id a journeyman for a reason. Give me Drake and Walker
-
Maclean has a history of blowing the doors off the AHL, to only lay a huge egg in the NHL. Some guys can never make the transition, he's one of them so far.
-
I like Souray, Rivet, Witt, Vandermeer, Jackman and Matt Walker as guys who could improve the D and give it some backbone.
-
I don't get the Doug Weight hating....let's say he can be had next year at a "hometown" discount in free agency, he wouldn't look better than a Lang? Plus his style of play allows him to be an effective winger also. I'd love to see Weight in a Wings uniform.
-
Quincey came back...he was just signed to fill his spot. But he'll be back
-
Warren boy, right?
-
I love Woolley

How do you know this? I like this rumor but what street is this word being uttered?

What prospects will make the Wings Next year?
Barnes52 replied to ufcredwingfan's topic in Prospects
No Bootland? Kolasau is at least a few years away. Jamtin needs a year in GR before he can make the step. I like you're thinking on some of the others though
