I think Z might swap to the 2nd unit with Kronner and Hudler. Homer - Pavel - Hossa Nick - Raf Franzen - Z - Hudler Nik - Sammy/Stuart That 2nd unit is still better than a lot of teams' 1st unit. Holy hell are we stacked.....

Kenny better reward him!

Wings out of picture for Sundin, Hossa, Rolston

Financial move. There is no way signing with Detroit hurts his career. The NHLPA has no teeth otherwise Nick would be making $10M/yr elsewhere. -

That's the beauty of having a group of skaters that good. You don't spend more than $1-2M on a goalie. -

But that doesn't mean he just doesn't sign Z or Franzen or Filppula. That's absurd. Unless Franzen wants Malone money in which case we should let him walk whether we sign Hossa or not. Cut corners with guys like Draper/Holmstrom/Maltby/Lilja/Samuelsson and bring in cheaper kids and sign Z when his contract ends and the new cap is announced. You do pretty much anything but give up core guys that carry the team. -

FFS... Why in the world would it come down to a choice between Hossa, Z, Fil, Franzen, and Hudler? Can someone explain this absurd fixation to me? Everywhere I go, these are the decisions laid out and it's all crap. There are other contracts that can be moved one way or another. Not just the young up and comers that figure to be part of our core for many years to come. -

As their most recent segment was wrapped up they said Hossa has a few possibilities. $7M or so from the Pens. $9M or so from the Oil. And something Datsyuk-ish from Detroit (so $6-7M). -

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...n_stuart_f.html "If you can get a star, you figure out a way to get him in (under the cap),'' Holland said. "We're not going to overpay for mid-level players.'' Doesn't sound like Kenny is out of it. He's not going to freak out, but if a big guy wants to come here, he'll figure out a way to get it done. -
I rest my case.

Commodore is a right-handed, red-headed Lilja. And he's getting THREE times as much as Lilly is. He's got the best playoff beard/hair combo in the league, hands down, but that's not worth an extra mil or two.
-
Franzen's emergence and the League's hate-on for Homer, makes Tomas less and less important. And if moving his $2.25M/yr makes Hossa possible, you do it. Which is the better top line? Datsyuk - Zetterberg - Holmstrom Datsyuk - Zetterberg - Hossa
-
Or Holmstrom, Draper, Maltby, Lilja, Samuelsson, etc... You don't cut the good players to get cap room.
-
Very. It would have been tricky as hell without Stuart. It involved careful planning and timed signing for contracts (namely Z's extension) to avoid running into tagging room problems and Fil, Franzen, and Hudler re-signing for a combined $8-9M. Doable, but a logistic nightmare. With Stuart, salary would have to be traded away.
-
We've got about $10-12M left for this coming season. With Fil, Ericsson, Jimmy, and a few minor spots left to fill. Absorbing Hossa long-term would be very easy for this year. Next year would be problematic.
-
With Stu at $3.75M/yr there's no way we sign Hossa unless Kenny makes a major move. Unless Marian takes the mother of all "I want to win" discounts.
-
Finger (who?) getting $3.5M/yr doesn't mean Salvador isn't overpaid. It just means he's not the most overpaid guy out there. Bryce getting $2M would have been a stretch. $2.9M/yr is stupid.

When he finished +18 and his partner won the Norris?

Fil doesn't have Olesz' offensive upside and Olesz is every bit as good defensively. -
I can freak out when I wanna freak out so stfu + gtfomi!!!!

Kenny needs to sign Franzen right ******* now...
-
That's three different trades. Z for Bouwmeester Pavel for Bouwmeester Flip + Kronner for Bouwmeester Maybe a pick here or there to balance it out, but Bouwmeester will be a top 3 defenseman for a long time. He's a bigger Niedmayer and he's better than Scott was at his age.
-
Try one of the twins or Fippula + Kronwall.
-
Eh... On many teams that may be true, but Holland has a history of milking waiver exemption for everything it's worth. It is an exceedingly rare player that sticks with the Wings that still has AHL options.

Hasek and Osgood. By many accounts Jimmy has been the best guy the last two training camps. It wouldn't have mattered what he did. He wasn't going to unseat either of them.
