I doubt it too. This won't be a freak year, but a new plateau for ol' Z.
-
Jan 1st isn't that arbitrary of a cut off, is it? As it stands, that level of play from that cutoff will hopefully take him through all of this season and the point will become moo. As for 25 game stretches... it'd be hard to come up with a better stretch. Definitely tricky to come up with a better month than his Feb. He put up the highest single month scoring total of the season in the shortest month (and he missed a game or two at the end to boot).
-
The same thing happens. Jan/Feb no one outscored Zetterberg (42 points in 25 games). February especially. He had 13 goals and 12 assists in 11 games.
-
No matter how you present his stats? '07 calendar year (including playoffs) no one has outpaced Z offensively. And of the guys in the running only Alfredsson compares to the all around ability of Z. Last two months of the regular season that Z has played in he's been the NHL's 1st Star of the month. February and now October. Last 25 games played? 25 goals and 24 assists. In the debate of best player during '07 (of which a lot falls in last season), Z is most definitely in the conversation.
-
That record being? He got close to one in '05-'06,but he was stopped one game shy. And if that's the one you're thinking of, you never want Z to break it. The record Heatley got close to was the consecutive game point streak with a new team. Dany pushed it to 22 games and Gretzky holds the record with 23.

I'm fairly certain the medical profession can't say that about anyone else currently on the roster. Nothing is 100% certain, apart from that death thing.

Ilya Kovalchuk scores 3 goals in the 3rd period tonight..

We don't have room for all the guys we draft. If we can flip a handful of them for a cornerstone type player that we have no hope in hell of drafting ourselves any time soon, you do it. Yeah losing Kronwall and Filppula/Hudler/whoever would suck but there would still be guys like Kindl, Ericsson, Smith, Pyett, Mursak, Ryno, Abdelkader, Ritola, Axelsson, Andersson, etc... all still in the pipeline. And even if some of those don't pan out, it's going to be awful hard to find a spot for the ones that do with the big club. Not to mention anyone else the Wings draft between now and the time some of those are NHL ready. Pro hockey is first and foremost a business. If a prospect can help out your team by becoming a trade asset rather than a future player on the roster, so be it. You just hope that when you decide to move one prospect and keep another that you make the right choice. -

For Ilya? Absolutely. And for the record he hasn't been "appalling" defensively since he was a teenager. He's gotten considerably better. He's not a two-way threat, but he won't hurt you. And as for trading away so many of our youngsters. Ilya is a youngster. Barely older than Hudler and Filppula. 2-3 years younger than Kronwall. And he's also a true superstar. If you want to land a guy like him without putting yourself in position to draft #1 overall, you're going to have to give something of considerable (or several somethings of lesser but cummulative) value up. Kronwall gets replaced by one of the two kids left or hell even Meech as he's been very steady. Fil and/or Hudler gets replaced by Ilya. And the other pieces haven't factored into the Wings yet so they aren't too much of a loss and they'll be replaced in future drafts. Though realistically this is a hand full of nickels for a dollar. Very rarely do these things happen. And considering Ilya (and Enstrom) are the only things going right for Atlanta this year I doubt he moves any time soon. Hossa on the other hand.... -

Fil has higher trade value, but whatever... toss 'em both in for Ilya. Did you know he's less than a year older than either Jiri or Val? Crazy... -

I have and will. Kronwall, Filppula, Quincey, Emmerton, and a 1st. -
Bobby sort of hurt his legacy by bolting to the WHA right in the heart of his prime. Had he stayed in the NHL from start to finish Brett never would have caught daddy on the scoring leader board. The general consensus is that Bobby was most definitely the better player.

Which active player will have his jersey retired?
norrisnick replied to timothy1997's topic in General
I know and it sucks. If anything I believe Fedorov has hinted towards the opposite. Playoff Fedorov is everything Babcock loves in a player. Fedorov is NOTHING like Robert Lang. -

Though not the most predictable. $4M would go a long way towards shoring up the 18 skaters up front. Dom can mend a few bridges so the ceremony next season will be properly teary-eyed and not filled with too much grumbling in various corners of whatever the arena in Buffalo is called. In fact we could use the space freed up by Dom to liberate Fedorov later in the year so his ceremony can happen during our lifetimes and not when all the boo-birds have passed on. -

Neither does Detroit. -

We should streamline the process for that and offer him up for say Tallinder or Kotalik and a 2nd rounder. -
Nope. Restricted. He doesn't have 7 years of service nor is he 27. And the Rangers will match pretty much any offer, seeing as they took him to arbitration this past offseason for the sole reason that it would prevent other teams from tendering an offer sheet.

Giggy is reason #1 why the league needs to go back to 70s/80s sized goalie equipment. This clip shows how a non-cup winning Conn Smythe winner ought to be playing.

There are rumors abound out of Finland (via Kipper's agent) that Kipper doesn't really intend to play all 6 seasons and is treating this as a 4 year deal. Thus the 2 super cheap years tacked on at the end are only there to drop the cap hit of the contract. If the League catches a whiff of this being some sort of wink wink nudge nudge agreement between Kipper and Sutter there could be troubles for the Flames.
-
Scotty's team. Kinda unfair with the best defenseman, forward, goalie (gonna raise some eyebrows), and coach all on one side.

Welcome to the '07-'08 season...

Or no one since 2 separate investigations into the matter concluded that no rape took place.
-
Oz and Howard. The way the skaters up front play it makes no sense to spend more than $2M total on goaltending. It'd be overkill.
-
I hope you're describing his belly. The only times Igor has gotten on the statsheets over here were for a fight, rough, goalie interference, and unsportsmanlike conduct (in the pushing shoving leading up to his fight). Grigorenko was slow, but not soft.

Take everything Kp said, turn it around, and that's what I think.
