There is an ever so slight difference between a guy taking a cut for another kick at the Cup after many years of $6-7-8M contracts and a guy taking a sweetheart deal for a shot at the Cup after many years of backup wages. Granted he was a well-paid backup at $1M+ but chump change for an NHL starter. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Manny to cash in on his many hard years of toiling behind the big money guys. I don't think a better chance at a Cup is going to counter he and his family being financially set for life. He can get $3-4M/yr easy out on the market with his numbers. And that would break Detroit's bank. Don't forget Manny was one of the more vocal anti-cap guys in the 'PA. peace

i was thinking the samething but stupider things have been posted Which is what makes it a good April Fool's gag. There has to be a hint of believability that it might be serious. You can't go too far out in left field or you'd give yourself away immediately. This thing has been brewing for weeks. peace

Screw April Fool's!!! I WANT BLACK AND SILVER JERSEYS DAMNIT!!!! peace

Don't look now!! Notice where the Zetterberg appears on the back of his Timra sweater? peace

HA thanks. He's been getting on my nerves of late and someone on another forward pointed out a different player that was approaching that same milestone. So I put up a counter. peace

Could always make the old ones a retro/throw-back 3rd jersey (but use it with a bit more regularity than most 3rds are used)? And in that case we could even go WAY back to Howe-era jerseys that were slightly different than the ones now. I think the Habs have an older design that they use as 3rds but really isn't much different than what they have now. If you're going to use retro's as 3rds you may as well make meaningful changes in the current ones. And then that wouldn't make any of the older jerseys out of date. Hell, retro jerseys of other teams are often big sellers because retro is cool. All current jersey owners would become hip and trendy without having to buy an old one or reproduction! peace

It's not that bad of an idea. It's like when people (not naming names ) gave the BJs s**t for their name. "Blue Jackets? WTF?" "Red Wings?" Equally silly. As well as the Wild, Islanders, etc... Thankfully the new Mighty Duck owners wised up and are dropping the silly modifier. I'm not a Detroiter (or a Michigander for that matter), is there any tie to the aviation industry in the area? Maybe ditch the "Red" and just go with Wings? Would be a perfect opportunity to ditch the 'old-timey' spoked wheel and take a more 21st century winged motif or something. Plus, whenever the 3rd jersey thread pops up the most requested change would be like those black practice jerseys. A sort of edgy black and silver (Stanley Cup tie-in anyone) jersey design would kick ass. Anyone more artistically/digital imaging inclined wiling to try and conjure something up? Now that I'm thinking of it it would be cool to take a look at somethign down this line of thinking. Pretty please? peace

Franchise type. If he can get the game he had in the NCAA up to NHL speed he'll be great. Big, athletic, very steady and a big game goalie. He has crazy potential. Now he just needs to grow into the pro game. His current stretch in the AHL is amazing. 12 straight wins now with an OT win tonight. peace

Take it to the GDT please. peace

Is there any way that Jimmy doesn't win Player of the Month honors? He's 10-0 with a GAA of 1.58 and save% of .944 in March. peace
-
It began with a bloody S!! peace
-
Hope he signs with us and his Tre Kronor buddies (he can just dilly-dally til July and become UFA if he were so inclined). He's already committed to coming over to play in either the NHL/AHL a month or two ago. peace

What has Fernandez done that Legace hasn't to warrant $4M+? If Manny hits the market he'll be, by far, the most sought after commodity. And this is before the playoffs have even begun. If Manny goes far, we can't afford him. If he can't go far, do we want him? I realize it's Manny's choice, but his decision between now and July 1st can set him up for life. He's been a career backup and he now has the opportunity to cash in on that long journey to starter status. I wouldn't blame him one bit to try and find security somewhere else (I'm sure he hasn't been too fond of always being behind or now looking over his shoulder in Detroit). Manny will command at least twice as much money as Osgood, but he isn't twice the goalie. And one more issue with regards to making room for Jimmy and likely bringing in Joey and Liv. Do you want a career backup in the room with them or a career starter? Even with Legace supplanting Osgood as the starter, Ozzy has more to teach up and comers than Legace (considering Manny is still learning the ropes as a starter himself). There's a lot for everyone involved to consider. peace
-
I'd be shocked if Osgood is back. It'll be a matter of economics. Tim Thomas just signed a three year deal at $1M+/yr with the Bruins. He's 32 and has 28 career NHL games to his credit. Manny Fernandez signed a three year deal at $4M+/yr. Legace has never had a big money contract and this season is his 1st chance to cash in. He'll price himself out of Detroit's plans. Holland will not go through a season without a veteran. He likes Osgood. Osgood likes Detroit. Osgood is more than capable as a starter. And there will be no better and/or cheaper options out on the market. peace

You do realize it doesn't change the fact that he "took over" for him, right? Whether Joey was pulled or injured, Jimmy stepped in and took over the game and helped the Griffins win. peace
-
Jimmy won again tonight setting Griffins records for consecutive wins (8) and wins by a rookie (21). 21-4-2 on the year and 17-1-1-1 in his last 20 games. peace

If I were a coach I would take a Rivers over Kronwall any day. But what do I know, I only played defense for 20 years. You, on the other hand, post a lot on interweb message boards. Good job. I would say... not much of anything. peace

This is from shortly after being drafted. This is from after the accident taken in 2003 and this one and the one's above are from the fall of '05. *Don't ask me why he's wearing a Capitals t-shirt. Clearly he's filled out quite a bit. peace

Isn't that just the exact same picture just a bigger size HA! It would appear that Red Wings Central has finally updated his profile picture. I'll see if I can dig up the old one again. peace

I think his on-ice play is more important than how he answers a question (barely speaking the language) to the media. And honestly it is absurd to hand an 18 year-old that kind of responsibility. He lets his play do the talking on the ice. Crosby chats a lot. Could be when Ovechkin gets more comfortable with English he will as well, but by that time he'll be getting older and may just keep on keeping on as he is now. peace
-
If anyone is yapping it's Crosby. Ovechkin doesn't taunt or yap. He celebrates and shows unbridled enthusiasm to score goals but he doesn't really do it in a way to rub the other team's noses in it. He's just happy. peace
-
He's not the same level of playmaker, no. But he creates more offense with less around him. I believe Babcock said it early in the season. The best pass you can make is off the goalie's pads. That and he does set guys quite a bit. There are just less finishers in Washington. I think as the season progressed they've completely unleashed him knowing that no one on that roster can keep up with him. peace

Poor Cleary. peace
